In the 20th match of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2023, defending champions Lahore Qalandars beat Multan Sultans by 21 runs at Gadaffi Stadium in Lahore. West Indies star all-rounder, Kieron Pollard, performed with both ball and bat but was unable to take his side to victory, he later was charged with a level 1 breach of the PSL’s code of conduct for his gesture to send off Abdullah Shafiq.

The 35-year-old has been reprimanded for a level 1 breach of the PSL Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel during his side’s match against Lahore Qalandars. The incident occurred in the 13th over of the first innings at the Gaddafi Stadium on 4th March, when the medium pacer took Abdullah Shafique’s catch off his own bowling and signalled towards the pavilion in a clear gesture of send-off.

Pollard violated level 1 of the PSL Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. He breached Article 2.5, which read “Using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during a match”.

Apart from this incident, the  Trinidadian had a memorable game from a personal point of view. He became only the third batter after Chris Gayle and Shoaib Malik to score 12000 runs in T20s. He also became only the second batter after Gayle to notch 800 sixes in the 20-over format game.

While, the game, the destructive lower-order batter scored 39 runs off 28 balls with two fours and three sixes, and with the ball. Pollard finished with figures of 2-0-16-2 and apart from dismissing the Pakistani youngster, he also accounted for the wicket of England’s Sam Billings.

In the PSL 8, points table, Lahore is at the top of the table with six wins out of seven matches it played, while the last editions runner-ups- Sultans are at the second spot with four wins. Mohammad Rizwan-led side will take on Islamabad United in their next match on 7th March at Rawalpindi.
