Former West Indies star batter, Brian Lara is currently serving as a head coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. SRH are on a two-match losing streak in the 16th edition of the league. In the last match, they lost against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
While in the 10th match of the league at one stage, SRH had 5 wickets in hand, but lost three batters in quick succession in death overs, which eventually restricted them to 121/8 after 20 overs.

SRH head coach, Brian Lara thinks their side is lacking behind in batting-
“I think today we didn’t play on a pitch that was conducive to proper stroke play. Not using that as an excuse but I think we definitely have to improve our batting.
“We are losing a lot of wickets in clumps, in the first game lost two wickets in the first over and tonight we lost three wickets in seven balls which changed the complexion of the game so we definitely have to look at our batting and come up with a solution for it,” said Lara.
LSG spinners combined to pick up 6 wickets against SRH, With Krunal Pandya being the star performer for the team well supported by young Ravi Bishnoi–and experienced Amit Mishra to restrict the 2016 champions to 121 runs at the end of 20 overs.
“The period of time that we lost Anmolpreet, Captain Aiden Markaram and Harry Brook. It sort of killed us at that point,” he further added.
Aiden Markram-led SRH side was at the 50-run mark with one wicket in the 8th over, but Krunal Pandya and Bishnoi duo demolished their middle order, and after the end of the 9th over, Sunrisers were 55/4.

“I think the pitch was obviously gonna be a turner, We felt if we got the better part of the pitch it would be rewarding for us.
“We felt that there wasn’t much dew on the ground so it was nothing to worry about. I think a total of 150-160 would have been a different story. We lost three wickets in seven balls and that sort of stopped our progress,” said the SRH head coach on batting first in the last game.
Besides, in the chase, the LSG side reached the target of 122 runs with four overs to spare–and five wickets in hand, as the home side posted 127/5.
Now, in IPL 2023, SRH will take on Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their 3rd game of the season at Hyderabad on April 9.
