WWE News: Why Charlotte Flair-Lacey Evans Had Their Worst Match On Raw?
Lacey Evans and Charlotte Flair competed in a match on WWE Raw this week which was strange by all means. First of all, these two are heel superstars. It’s very rare especially in the women’s division that we’d see two villains hammering away at each other in a match. That happened on this week’s flagship show and created some awkward moments, to say the least.
Both Lacey Evans and Charlotte Flair started the match in a way that has a difference in approach. It looked like they were in position for a shoot-segment rather than doing much sports entertainment type wrestling. So normal casual moves started the match from Flair while her opponent was trying to take her down. Fans could not relate to them, at all.
Dave Meltzer discussed this match on Wrestling Observer Radio where he pointed that someone instructed them to meet in the ring. They did know that a shoot kind of segment will follow. The information communicated to them was clearly to produce some kind of heat between each other. But both of them were unknown of how to do it and thereby very awkward situations prevailed.
There was a point when Lacey Evans clearly forgot what to do next while Charlotte Flair had a submission locked in. The nine-time champion had to remind her about it, incidentally that the TV cameral captured. That completely ruined the storyline perspective of a match, so to speak. Here’s more from the source, (courtesy ringsidenews.com)
“Charlotte Flair and Lacey Evans I don’t know what went wrong there, but there’s gotta be a story cause they went out there and it was like somebody told them and I don’t know why, but somebody told them to go out there and make it look legit. So they went out there working like it’s a shoot, but neither of them had any experience working like a shoot so they’re just kinda like doing legitimate wrestling and even that part was weird cause you’re not used to it and it looked like Charlotte was blocking her moves and things like that which looked — it’s just not a WWE pattern match — in some ways it could have been good.”
“Then once they opened up, that thing everything was off. Everything was terrible.”
Thus a potential shoot segment between Lacey Evans and Charlotte Flair looked insignificant by all means as the match ended via disqualification. Becky Lynch attacked them to cause the DQ and stood tall with the belt after the match. So nobody from the match gained no sort momentums, at all. Hopefully, the bad experience does not cost Lacey a future title opportunity.
