As seen in this past week’s episode of WWE Monday Night RAW, Rey Mysterio defeated AJ Styles to win the United States Championship.
It appeared to be his second run with the mid-card title which he received just 24 hours after Survivor Series 2019. He received a WWE Championship match which ended in a losing effort to the reigning Champion Brock Lesnar.

But sooner WWE decided to award him with a secondary Championship which happened due to a significant reason. They wanted the veteran to stay around the company and needed to take the necessary steps for it.
According to the reports of Slice Wrestling, WWE is giving Rey Mysterio a push because they want him to stay here and eventually re-sign when it’s needed.

Rey Mysterio signed a 2-year-contract with the WWE back in September 2018. Following this, he made a return on WWE TV on the occasion of SmackDown 1000th episode the next month.
The deal has an interesting 18-month opt-out clause (if he is not happy with his position in the company). It means he can leave WWE in March 2020, just a month before WrestleMania 36.
Additionally, there’s a chance that a newer program may start on Raw featuring Rey Mysterio and his son Dominick leading all the way to WrestleMania 36. Here’s more update from wwfoldschool.com,
“WWE now plans to give Mysterio a WrestleMania moment with his son, Dominick (who is expected to be called Prince Mysterio when he starts wrestling), which would result in Mysterio not leaving WWE in March as that’s something Mysterio wants as a part of his legacy and too good of an opportunity to pass up on.”

Rey Mysterio has been quite open on getting a solid last run in the WWE following his signing with the WWE in 2018. Initially, his wish was not granted as his body got affected by severe injuries. But as 2020 approaches, we expect him to heavily feature on the programming.
