The IWC must be so happy with the news that WWE has finally booked an NXT division match at the main card of Wrestlemania 36. As confirmed during this past NXT TakeOver: Portland event, Women’s Royal Rumble 2020 winner Charlotte Flair accepted Rhea Ripley’s WrestleMania 36 challenge.
They will now face at the ‘Grandest Stage of Them All’ with the NXT Women’s Championship hanging in the balance. Flair will be coming back for the tile which gave the first push of her wrestling career.

But in this process, Charlotte Flair is bringing Rhea Ripley into the mainstay spotlight. The Australian superstar is said to be the future of the women’s division on the main roster and early entry into the Monday Night Raw scene could prepone her accolades on the biggest stage. Only time will tell how her success rate will be measured if she can somehow put away The Queen of WWE.

During a post-NXT Takeover interview, Triple H noted how this match came about. The Game revealed this match was not his brainchild. He was surprised when the idea was first pitched to him during a creative meeting. He could not get happier to let Charlotte Flair competing against Rhea Ripley as NXT gets to steal the spotlight. He thinks Vince McMahon has booked the match keeping other women in mind.
This could be the reason why another fresh NXT recruit Shayna Baszler is getting to compete against Becky Lynch at Wrestlemania for the Raw women’s championship. Here’s the full statement made by Triple H regarding NXT’s involvement in the ‘show of shows’,
“To be honest, it was shocking to me when it was first mentioned to me. I believe that this was just a decision from Vince’s part on understanding the other stories for the women.
To me, you have opportunities where you look in a moment in time and ask is Charlotte going after Bayley and Sasha Banks, does she come after Becky Lynch.
You’ve seen that before and we’re looking into something fresh and you see that with Shayna Baszler going after Becky Lynch and you see that in different ways on SmackDown with where they’re going.
So this was a way for Charlotte Flair needing to be in that big, epic role. I think it really had nothing more to do with that. It’s good storytelling and that’s what the goal is here, good storytelling across the board.”
As noted earlier, the outcome of Charlotte Flair vs, Rhea Ripley is still not clear at this point. McMahon wants Flair to win the match whereas Triple H wants the win for Ripley. Only time will tell which one of them gets the last laugh.
