Wrestlemania 38 is barely a month away in WWE calendar and this is the particular time when a lot of plans will be shuffled around. The build-up to the biggest PPV has now officially begun, and so has the speculation.
The recent report suggests that the two men’s World Title matches from Raw and Smackdown were planned but those were changed since Roman Reigns missed WWE Day One pay-per-view after testing positive for COVID-19.
As previously reported, the original plan at Day 1 was for Seth Rollins to leave the show as WWE Champion and go back to the top of the Raw mountain. On the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that the original plan for WrestleMania 38 was to have Rollins defend the title on one of the two nights in a marquee match.

Meltzer mentioned in his first report that Seth would have been facing an unknown opponent at Wrestlemania 38 but he was the original man expected to walk into the show as WWE Champion. On the other night of ‘Mania, it was expected that Brock Lesnar would be facing Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship.

Wrestlemania 38 plans were changed in recent times
In an update to the report, Meltzer has now informed that the original plan for WrestleMania 38 was for Seth Rollins to face Big E for the WWE Championship. The source noted if that match was set to be the main event of the Show of Shows. WWE still reportedly plans on keeping their WrestleMania World title plans intact. In that case, the two men could still end up competing against each other.
E vs. Rollins took place in a one-on-one competition during the January 10 episode of Monday Night Raw with the latter picking up the win. At the bygone Royal Rumble event, Rollins unsuccessfully challenged for the Universal Championship held by Roman Reigns from Smackdown. Meanwhile, Big E performed as one of the 30 participants for the men’s Rumble match.
In his promo, E claimed to win the Rumble match and head into Wrestlemania 38 to challenge for one of the world titles present in the WWE but that wasn’t the case. As of this writing, no matches for E/Rollins have been confirmed at the Biggest Event of the Year while Reigns vs. Lesnar will serve as one of the main events.
