WWE Universal Champion Braun Strowman is all set for a second title defense at the Backlash pay-per-view event. It will be quite an interesting scenario as the title will be defended in a two-on-one scenario. It will be a Handicap Match at the upcoming WWE Network special event where Braun Strowman will face The Miz and John Morrison at the same time with his title hanging in the balance.

WWE Smackdown Results (22/05/20): Charlotte vs Bayley; Styles-Nakamura; Hardy-Sheamus

Last night’s SmackDown on FOX opened with Braun Strowman interrupting The Miz and John Morrison hosting their entertainment-based talk show, The Dirt Sheet. This led to a singles match where Strowman defeated The Miz in a singles competition hitting the Running Powerslam move. He was and was challenged by John Morrison to a Handicap Match at Backlash. Morrison also mentioned that the title should be on the line.

Strowman readily accepted the challenge on the spot. Then, WWE also made the Universal Championship match official for the 2020 Backlash pay-per-view event. This is the first match from the blue brand to get confirmed for the PPV event that is returning to the WWE schedule after a hiatus of a couple of years. The former SmackDown Tag Team Champions will now have to be ready to ‘get these hands’ of the Monster Among Men.

The 2020 WWE Backlash pay-per-view will take place on June 14, from the closed-set WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida, reportedly. The current Backlash card stands as follows,

WWE Title Match

Bobby Lashley vs. Drew McIntyre (c)

Handicap Match for the WWE Universal Title

The Miz and John Morrison vs. Braun Strowman (c)

Edge vs. Randy Orton

The primary belief was that Braun Strowman would defend the title against The Fiend Bray Wyatt in a rematch following his retention over the Firefly Funhouse version of Bray Wyatt at Money In the Bank. It seems that The Fiend vs. Braun Strowman will have to wait for a latter PPV event.

It is believed that Edge vs Randy Orton should be the main event of the 2020 Backlash pay-per-view event. WWE has been billing this match using “The Greatest Wrestling Match Ever”. WWE.com is promoting the match via the following statements,

“Will the pair author The Greatest Wrestling Match Ever? And can either put a definitive end to this personal and heated rivalry? Don’t miss WWE Backlash, streaming on the award-winning WWE Network, Sunday, June 14, at 7 ET/4 PT!”
