The potential main event of Backlash pay-per-view is now official following this week’s episode of WWE RAW. Randy Orton vs. WWE Hall of Famer Edge was confirmed for the PPV that is returning after a gap of almost two years. As seen last week, Orton threw a challenge to Edge, doubting that the legend may not possess the same wrestling skills after coming back to action after more than nine years.

Orton’s rant continued even on this week’s episode of WWE RAW during the opening segment. He was confident about Edge’s doubts over his own abilities which is why he didn’t answer the challenge. The Rated R Superstar came out to confront him and yelled out at him a bit before uttering that he accepts the match. This time around Edge and Orton will compete in a pure wrestling match as demanded by the latter one.

WWE is billing this match to be perhaps the greatest wrestling match ever to promote Backlash PPV. At this point, it seems like Edge vs Randy Orton is going to be the main event of Backlash as WWE has the option to market the WWE Network special banking in these two legends.

For those who don’t know, Backlash was confirmed to take place pay-per-view will take place on June 14, reportedly from the closed-set WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida.

Edge and Orton tore the house down at WrestleMania 36, in April in a Last Man Standing Match. Edge came out with the victory and thereby seeking sweet redemption to the heinous attacks performed by The Viper to himself and his wife. Now the 11-time world champion plans to prove his wrestling skills to the world by competing in a one-on-one match.

A fan doubted WWE’s plan saying the following on the social media, “In what alternate universe do you start the feud with a Last Man Standing match and end it with a ‘straight up’ wrestling match? Lol you should have stayed retired. Bogus.”

Edge fired back to him saying that he plans to prove the doubters wrong at Backlash to retire in future on his own terms,

“You have no idea what I have planned. And because of that you have no idea what you’re talking about. Does EVERY story you’ve ever read or movie you’ve watched play out the same? Because that’s sounds boring as hell to me. So you can complain, or quit being that jaded ‘smart fan’ and just try and enjoy something and watch the power paradigm shift and play out.”
