A lot of interesting angles happened during Fastlane 2019 around the WWE Championship match. Kofi Kingston requested Vince McMahon to make this one a triple threat match including him. McMahon sarcastically agreed to do so. The reality was that Mustafa Ali received the chance instead of him who deserves to get a WWE Championship to match more than anybody. It did make the job tough for the champion, Daniel Bryan.

Shane McMahon turned heel at Fastlane

Wrestlemania main event confirmed

As for Kofi Kingston, he received a handicap match at Fastlane against The Bar. The heel duo both competed at the same time and defeated him quite easily. After that, the WWE Championship match was underway at Fastlane, with Mustafa Ali taking the initial beatdowns. The sole reason to insert him into this match was to protect Kevin Owens from digesting a pinfall loss. So the match ended in a predictive manner as Ali came up short.

Kevin Owens was in control hitting a pop-up powerbomb on Daniel Bryan. But Rowan took him out of the ring leaving Bryan and Ali inside the ring. The high-flyer missed a top rope move as the champion landed his pendant Running Knee on him to earn the pinfall win. The era of the eco-friendly champion continues as we head towards Wrestlemania. Rowan delivered one last chokeslam to punish Ali before this segment from Fastlane ended.

Daniel Bryan has been the WWE Champion since November 2018. He had the heel-turn moment of the year by backstabbing the former Champion AJ Styles. We have had a dream rivalry against these two from which the meanest heel emerged victoriously. He debuted an eco-friendly gimmick that is rare in the history of the company.

With Rowan backing him up, Daniel Bryan took his villainous status to a new limit. At Elimination Chamber he created a record by coming out of the structure as still the WWE Champion. But Kofi Kingston stole the show on that night. He pinned the reigning champion on the very next night to earn a title match at Fastlane pay-per-view.

But Vince McMahon decided to take that away from him. Kevin Owens replaced him in this Fastlane WWE Championship match. The Prizefighter returned on Smackdown from an injury to go straight into the prime title picture. But he did not receive audience support as Kofi-Mania is going strong in WWE Universe. It will be interesting to see whether WWE gives him the due title match at Wrestlemania.
