WWE News: Huge Championship Match Announced For Royal Rumble From Smackdown
We saw a championship change on the very last episode of Smackdown in 2018. Rusev challenged the then United States Champion Shinsuke Nakamura over the title in the main event. It was a solid match where Rusev delivered the Machka Kick to snatch the title away. It was the third time in his WWE career that he was able to pick up the US title. The rivalry did not come to an end with this title change.
Shinsuke Nakamura continued targeting Rusev ever since then with the quest of getting back the United States Championship. He was doing this despite knowing that WWE scrapped the idea of automatic rematch clauses. But sticking to his will handed him the deserved rematch. It will now take place at the Royal Rumble PPV event as per breaking news on WWE.com,
“With the United States Title rematch set, will Rusev finally get retribution against Nakamura? Or will The Artist create another championship reign for himself? Don’t miss the explosive battle for the star-spangled championship at Royal Rumble, Sunday, Jan. 27, streaming live at 7 ET/4 PT on the award-winning WWE Network!”
Rusev was celebrating the United States Championship win on Smackdown on January 1st episode. His wife Lana was by his side when Shinsuke Nakamura decided to deliver a sneak attack from the back. The Ravishing Russian tried to prohibit Nakamura from doing so and climbed on his back. Rusev hit a Machka Kick on the heel superstar that made Lana fell on her back on the mat. She was seriously hurt by this.
Last week, Rusev wanted to get his hands on the former United States Champion by any means. Shinsuke Nakamura did not come out but pointed out with a vignette that it was Rusev’s fault that Lana got hurt. The incensed Super Athlete went in hunt for The Artist at backstage but got the reward through a Kinshasa. This made the current champion irate who can’t wait to get his hands on the King of Strong Styles. So this match is indeed happening at Royal Rumble. On January 27th, we will find out whether Nakamura reclaims the title or Rusev gets his retribution.
