WWE News: WWE And Universal Champion Teamed Up On Smackdown
WWE Universe was up for a major treat on last night’s Smackdown as they witnessed two champions teaming up on the main event. The Universal Champion Seth Rollins made a rare appearance on the show only to listen that Shane McMahon has inserted him into a match. He teamed up with Kofi Kingston against Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn in a two-out-of-three falls match on the show.
Kofi Kingston delivered a Trouble in Paradise to earn the first quick pinfall win. The heels came back for sometimes before Seth Rollins converted a pop-up powerbomb into a Superkick. He followed it up with The Stomp to get a huge win that still provides the upper-hand to the WWE Champion heading into Stomping Grounds.
Prior to this, Kofi’s brother-in-arms, Xavier Woods received a chance to feature in a match against Dolph Ziggler in the opening contest of Smackdown. But the outside interferences from Owens and Zayn did not allow Woods to capitalize. The show-off picked up the win with a Zig-zag followed by a superkick. So the #contender for the WWE Championship also has the momentums by his side.
Xavier Woods has been one integral part of the WWE Championship storyline on Smackdown Live. Dolph Ziggler returned prior to Super ShowDown to deliver a sneak attack on Kofi Kingston and get into the title picture. The show-off tried to pounce on the champion for a number of occasions when Woods sacrificed him digesting beatdown.
So, WWE inserted a match between Xavier Woods and Dolph Ziggler on Smackdown, rightfully,
“Woods, of course, ultimately played a vital role in the WWE Title Match at WWE Super ShowDown, which led to Dolph petitioning for a Steel Cage rematch at WWE Stomping Grounds. Will Xavier get one last measure of retribution against Ziggler before his New Day brother Kofi gets at him next Sunday? Or will The Showoff make the ultimate statement to Kingston by downing his friend just five nights before their Steel Cage clash? Find out this Tuesday night at 8/7 C on USA Network.”
It was a chance for him to seek retribution for the brutal punishments suffered by the former WWE Champion. Plus, he could also provide the upper-hand to his buddy Kofi Kingston who’d defend his championship at Stomping Grounds inside a steel cage. He failed to do so due to interference from the heels but the champion did come out on top by the end of the show.
