WWE News: Negative Update On Paige’s Return To The WWE
Paige is nowhere near to return to the WWE TV going by the recent happenings. WWE removed her from the Smackdown general manager post in December. Shane McMahon did hint that the anti-Diva is getting a new role in the company, going forward. But she was nowhere to be found except for the movie promotions at the beginning of 2019.
Fighting with my Family was the movie produced by the Rock and WWE that kept Paige relevant throughout 2019. But now that the movie released and vanished from the theatres, it’s highly unlikely that she would get another chance to grab a new role on WWE TV. Furthermore, new reports surfaced suggesting the same.
The Dirty Sheets reported that former WWE Divas Champion Paige might not get a new deal once the current one expires. It was back in 2011 when she ended up becoming the first-ever NXT Women’s Champion. This led her to sign a six-year contract with the company in 2014 that is intact until 2020.
This deal offered her worth $500,000 per year (so a total of $3 million). But injury ruined the better part of her career starting from 2016 onwards. She was dealing with a concussion for a long period of time during this contract. So, she has reportedly made less than half of the total amount as offered in the deal (based on the terms & conditions of the contract).
Here’s more from wwfoldschool.com that confirms that WWE is not likely to offer her a new deal when the current one expired in thirteen months,
“With Paige forced to retire from in-ring action, she has very less to offer to the company. Many believed that her movie “Fighting with Family” would be her ‘saving grace’. But that movie didn’t do much at the Box Office either. With 13 months left on Paige’s contract, things aren’t looking for Paige’s future in WWE.”
Apparently, the movie was the only reason why WWE did not cut her down from the employee list despite her misconducts in 2016. Now the sole purpose is no more present that might keep the distance wide open with the WWE.
The source hinted that there’s a chance that WWE can offer Paige a new deal when her current deal expires. However, her pay will be down for a significant amount. The current amount that she receives will not be as less that she will receive if staying in the future with the WWE. As stated earlier, she can’t be physical inside the ring and hence there’s the least scope to use her on TV.
