WWE News: Original Planning With Popular Raw & Smackdown Tag Teams

The tag team division might have lost relevance in recent times. It’s hard to believe that we have the least impact from them even after having two strong champions. The Deletor of World is the current WWE Raw tag team champions. The Bludgeon Brothers are the titleholders over on Smackdown Live. But they have not been able to present themselves as impactful champions.

The scene is much different than that of 2017. The New Day and The Usos had a memorable rivalry over the Smackdown tag team championships. This has gifted us the first-ever Hell in a Cell match over this title. It was not a show-off match, rather one of the contenders for ‘match of the year’. We expected to keep their status elevated going from here.

Popular teams from the NXT roster also arrived on the main roster following this year’s Superstar Shakeup. This indicated that this division of the WWE will become the hottest ever. You can’t deny the impact that teams like Authors of Pain or SAnitY can create upon their debut. But the actual situation is completely opposite at this time.

The brand split is the most significant reason why the tag team division is getting neglected. The creative team is currently focusing on the solo storylines. Each of the PPV events will feature all the prime names of both the division. This is why we should not expect significant tag matches in the PPV events.

Wrestling Observer Live has come up with a report that suggests that WWE officials scrapped some big planning around this division. The main reason behind bringing AOP and SAnitY on the main roster was planning a tag team MITB ladder match. But this planning did not come to fruition. We have reported it earlier that the creative wiped out the planning this year.

This is the main reason why we did not see AOP or SAnitY with a significant role on the main roster. If the current situation continues then we should not expect anything different in the near future for the tag team division.

Teams like The Bludgeon Brothers of Matt Hardy-Bray Wyatt can be pure assets for tag team wrestling. Current booking for them is a complete waste. They barely get any significant TV time on a weekly basis. This is basically a crime for these talents. We hope a quick change in the scene if this portion of the roster can be relevant once again.
