Smackdown has been advertising a celebration for the post-Royal Rumble show due to a shocking title change. As we all know, Shane McMahon and The Miz teamed up for the first time on Sunday Night’s PPV over a title opportunity. They were successful in derailing the former champions, The Bar with their resiliency. So the authority figure of Smackdown and the A-lister decided to enjoy their accomplishments.
Huge title match announced for Elimination Chamber
Shane McMahon and The Miz appeared on Smackdown with the same preparation. We saw a vignette capturing how these two became co-besties in this blue brand and now they are holding the tag team championships. This led to The Miz’s dad into the ring who never seemed to be happy about his son’s accomplishments. This time though, he was glad about the title win. But then again he reminded something very important.
It’s one thing to become the champion whereas it’s different to defend those championships. With that being said, we had to find out who is going to be the next challengers for the Smackdown tag team championships. A four-corners contenders’ match was underway on the show right away with an interesting lineup. Three veteran teams alongside a new import from NXT were part of this.
The full lineup was Heavy Machinery (Otis Dozovic & Tucker Knight) vs. New Day (Big E & Kofi Kingston) vs. the Bar (Cesaro & Sheamus) vs. the Usos (Jimmy & Jey Uso). Heavy Machinery was the first one to get the pinfall win against The New Day to get the former champions out of this match. They hit the Compactor to earn the win.
Heavy Machinery was the next team to be eliminated as Sheamus delivered the Brogue Kick on Tucker Knight. It came down to the two veterans, The Bar and The Usos. Jey Uso took the upper hand by delivering a superkick on Sheamus and heading to the top rope. He landed the frog splash perfectly to pick up the win.
With this win, The Usos will get to face Shane McMahon and The Miz for the Smackdown tag team championships. The fresh match will take place at the Elimination Chamber PPV. Here’re the confirmations from WWE.com,
“The Usos — SmackDown’s longest-tenured tag team and arguably its most dominant — will challenge the “Co-Besties” for the blue tandem titles at WWE Elimination Chamber. With his & Miz’s pride and joy up for grabs against a dangerous tandem, he may well regret giving the nod to the two brothers who can turn their dream run into a very, very rude awakening.
Tune in to WWE Elimination Chamber on Sunday, Feb. 17, at 7 ET/4 PT to see which team is left standing, streaming live on the award-winning WWE Network.”
