WWE Universe was pretty much happy to learn about the Universal Championship matchup at Royal Rumble. Finn Balor received an opportunity to challenge Brock Lesnar for the prime title out of nowhere. He won a fatal-4-way match two weeks ago to become the official number one contender for the Universal title.

Earlier, WWE had advertised Brock Lesnar vs. Braun Strowman at Royal Rumble. The earlier challenger lost the opportunity after destroying Vince McMahon’s limousine on the same episode. He was lucky that The Boss did not fire him. Finn Balor grabbed the spotlight replacing the Monster among Men at the first PPV of the year.

We should mention that Finn Balor was the first-ever Universal Champion on WWE Raw in 2016. He had the potential to become the marquee superstar in the WWE but an unfortunate injury ruined everything for him. So this match at Royal Rumble gave him a chance of resurrection. It was almost after three years that he was competing in a title match at a PPV event.

Finn Balor made his entrance first making Royal Rumble the worldwide Balor Club. Brock Lesnar was out next making his intimidating presence felt. The challenger went for a quick move that the beast converted into a German suplex right away. The punishment continued for Balor as he received another suplex on the floor. He managed to come back by pushing the beast into the announce table.

He injured his ribs in this process allowing Finn Balor to attack further. But the champion was still in control in this Royal Rumble title match hitting German suplexes inside the ring. The challenger connected with a Sling Blade and tried to go for the Drop-kick but ate a clothesline. The Champion went for an F-5 but got caught in a swinging DDT. Finn continued attacking the midribs followed by a flying move over the top rope.

The beast was literally down outside the ring at this point in this match at Royal Rumble. Finn Balor landed the Coup De Grace successful but the champion caught him with a Kimura Lock. The hold continued for sometimes before the Balor tapped out to this. Brock Lesnar retained his championship at Royal Rumble via submission. Once the match at Royal Rumble was over, Brock Lesnar hit three suplexes and an F-5 to leave Finn Balor lying.
