It’s a tragedy that WWE never felt to give enough push to neither Rusev nor Lana who could have been a star power on the TV. Via their appearance on the Total Divas show, they have become quite a sensation for the mainstream audience. But the creative team never took the Bulgarian Brute to the next level that could have cemented his position in the main event level. The tradition continued for years that now have led them in a position where leaving the brand might have remained the only option for them.

WWE Superstar Rusev Set A New Record At Wrestlemania 35

Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted on Twitter that Rusev and Lana were away from the company asking for a break. He also noted that the couple does not know what their next step could be. Interestingly, Rusev responded back to the tweet saying, “Oh I know what my next step is.” This kept the rumors ongoing whether it means he’d be leaving the biggest pro-wrestling brand.

The same source confirmed earlier that Rusev and Lana asked some time off from the WWE around Wrestlemania 35. They have not been on TV since that point except for a one-off appearance in June. The former United States Champion competed in the 50-man Battle Royal match at the Super ShowDown event on June 7 in Saudi Arabia. There were rumors that Rusev expressed frustrations on his current position on the roster and thereby requested the hiatus. WWE could extend the length of Rusev’s contract due to this time-off by freezing it. They often do this whenever a superstar stays out of action owing to injury purposes. You may check his comments from an appearance at the appeared on Lilian Garcia’s “Chasing Glory” podcast back in February that was a clear indication that he was not happy,

“I’m just trying to do something to catch Vince McMahon’s eye, with this, with that I’m trying. We go, we pitch, we talk, he just never comes to anything. It was last year around WrestleMania and before that when the whole Rusev Day started and everything. I thought it was my time. And I keep pushing for it to be my time and I keep talking to everybody, but nobody wanted to do anything. It’s very frustrating. But still, as frustrating as it is, I’m like, alright, let’s go to the gym. Let’s get better, let’s do whatever we can.”
