Fallouts of Summerslam weekend were the prime focus of this week’s episode of Smackdown Live. The same WWE Championship rivalry continues whereas new feuds begin for Clash of Champions. Plus, Roman Reigns competed in a first-time matchup on the show against a former Cruiserweight Champion. Here are the results from the show that took place at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
King Of The Ring Tournament Set To Return Next Week On WWE Raw
Sasha Banks Returns On WWE Raw, Attacks Becky Lynch
Kevin Owens came out to kick things off on Smackdown Live as the Toronto crowd gave him a thunderous reception. He took the mic and illustrated how it felt good to beat Shane McMahon at Summerslam. Soon, Shane appeared on the ramp in the midst of boos from the crowd. He fines Owens for putting his hands on Elias, the special ring enforcer at the PPV. Owens was furious on this and destroyed a TV at backstage.
Charlotte Flair and Ember Moon competed in the opening contest of Smackdown Live which Flair dominated working on Moon’s legs. She had the Boston Crab locked in on her opponent in the mid-part of the match. Ember came back hitting some knee strikes. But Flair soon hit back her with a big boot. She applied the Figure Four and bridged into the Figure Eight to pick up the submission win.
Daniel Bryan and Rowan appeared on Smackdown Live to address the Roman Reigns situation. Bryan took the mic and claimed that he and his buddy have nothing to do with the attack towards Roman Reigns. The Toronto fans reacted negatively to make him frustrated. Samoa Joe appeared at the backstage to have a meeting with Shane McMahon who announced the main event of Owens vs. Joe.
Roman Reigns vs. Buddy Murphy was the next match on Smackdown which the latter one had the initial control by sending his opponent to the steel steps. Soon Reigns connected with a sit-out powerbomb. Murphy countered with a Brainbuster for a close 2 count. He went to the top rope but Reigns downed him with a Superman Punch. A massive spear connected next handing Reigns a big win.
Kevin Owens vs. Samoa Joe happened next on Smackdown Live. Shane McMahon appointed a special in-ring enforcer in the form of WWE 24/7 Champion Elias who came without his title but wearing a referee jersey. Owens delivered a pop-up powerbomb on Joe but Elias pulled the referee out of the ring to hurt him bad. Owens got into an argument with Elias. Joe rolled up Owens from the back as Elias had a fast count to let Joe win the match.
Daniel Bryan and Rowan appeared in a backstage segment to confront Murphy. The duo forced him to confess that he was telling a lie by falsely accusing about the attack on Roman Reigns. Murphy accepted the same as Rowan laid him down on the locker room floor.
Smackdown Tag Team Champions Big E and Xavier Woods were out to compete in a match against The Revival on Smackdown Live. Randy Orton came out to insult Kofi Kingston and advised him to join the match to make a six-man tag team action. The Revival won the match hitting the Shatter Machine on Xavier Woods. After the match was over, Orton hit RKOs on each of the New Day members.
A confrontation between Daniel Bryan and Roman Reigns ended this week’s Smackdown at the backstage area. Bryan promised that he will bring Reigns the culprit next week.
