Smackdown came up with a decent episode following the historic reunion on WWE Raw. We expected to see the official number one contender for the WWE Championship. Shane McMahon addressed Kevin Owens to set up a Summerslam match. Plus, there was a first-time-ever women’s division match on the show that took place at the American Airlines Arena in Miami, Florida.

Smackdown opened with Big E and Xavier Woods sitting on commentary. Shane McMahon’s music hit as he came out and mention that Kevin Owens laid down a Summerslam challenge to him. He accepted it with the stipulation that if Kevin loses he will quit the WWE. Owens showed up within moments promising ghat he won’t lose at Summerslam. Shane cut his mic off and barred him from approaching the ring before leaving.
Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Apollo Crews was the opening contest of Smackdown Live. Nakamura rolled through the match with a sliding German Suplex. Crews came back with an Olympic Slam but a kick from Nakamura slowed him down. Still, Apollo approached him to eat a Kinshasa and come up short. Even after the match, Nakamura attacked Apollo with another Kinshasa outside the ring.
The Miz hosted a special edition of Miz TV on Smackdown with the guest Shawn Michaels. As the two of them talked, Dolph Ziggler came out to cut a heel promo. Miz was sick listening to his complainings and wanted Shawn to do something. Ziggler went to hit Shawn but accidentally hit The Miz. Shawn went to check on Miz and Ziggler hit him with a Superkick.

Ember Moon vs. Charlotte Flair was the next matchup on Smackdown Live. Flair gave a clothesline to Moon before Bayley’s music cut her off. Moon rolled up Flair from behind to pick up a big win. After the match, Moon threw Bayley into the ring and hit an Eclipse. Charlotte Flair also received an Eclipse from her before she left the ring.
Kofi Kingston issued a Summerslam Challenge to none other than Randy Orton for the WWE Championship. He appeared on Smackdown a few seconds later to confront the champion. Kofi brought out the context of November 16, 2009, Madison Square Garden where he defeated Orton. But he could never capitalize on that moment due to Randy’s backstage influence. So he challenged Orton for a WWE title match which he readily accepted to confirm the Summerslam title bout.

Samoa Joe appeared on Smackdown to have a scheduled match with Kofi Kingston who hit a big forearm to take control of the match. Randy Orton intervened the match and tried to hit an RKO on Kofi who blocked it. The referee disqualified the match as Orton hit an RKO on Joe. Kofi then landed the Trouble in Paradise on Orton to stand tall.
Finn Balor appeared on Smackdown Live to have an interview with Kyla Braxton. He mentioned how Bray Wyatt attacked him on Raw, last week. So he went on to challenge Wyatt in a match at Summerslam who responded with a Firefly Funhouse vignette. At backstage, Charlotte Flair expressed her disgust to be off from Summerslam. So she will bring her own opponent to the show who will be much better than Ember Moon.

Shane McMahon announced the guest timekeeper, Elias and guest referee, Drew McIntyre for Smackdown main event between Roman Reigns and Kevin Owens. The match never really happened as Drew and Elias started beating up Reigns. Owens neutralized the scene but soon Shane pounced on him. Owens then sent Shane right into a Superman Punch by Reigns. Then he landed a Stunner on Shane to end the show.
