This week’s Smackdown was a hell of a roller-coaster ride with multiple surprises for Survivor Series. The women’s Champion vs. Champion match changed for the upcoming PPV. An alteration was there in the traditional men’s tag team lineup. Plus, we witnessed a new WWE Champion to close the show which was a shocker. Here are the show results hosted by the Enterprise Center in Saint Louis, Missouri.
Smackdown kicked off with AJ Styles who cut a promo on his match against Brock Lesnar. Paul Heyman interrupted him and claimed Daniel Bryan is better than him. The latter one soon joined him on the show and wanted to punch him on the face. As the verbal confrontation broke out, the two men started to fight. Shane McMahon informed WWE Championship will be on the line between AJ Styles and Daniel Bryan in the main event.
Jeff Hardy received a singles contest against Andrade Cien Almas. Zelina Vega was back in Almas’ corner. Almas set up Hardy in a Tree of Woe and kicked off the rope but Hardy managed to kick out. Almas also hit the double knees but Hardy countered with Twist of Fate. He successfully hit the Swanton Bomb for the victory.
Paige announced Daniel Bryan will not represent Smackdown at Survivor Series. So The Miz is the captain who wanted to kick out Rey Mysterio off the team. But he had to beat Mysterio for that. Rey countered a Skull Crushing Finale with a 619 and rolled the Miz up to retain his spot. Randy Orton tried to hit an RKO on Mysterio after the match but he dodged it.
Smackdown general manager Paige announced that Becky Lynch will not compete at Survivor Series due to a broken face. So she allowed Becky Lynch to choose somebody in order to replace her. Predictably, she chose Charlotte Flair as her replacement for this Sunday. The Queen stated that she will fight for the honor of Becky to beat Ronda at Survivor Series.
The Bar and Big Show competed against The New Day on Smackdown. Show took control of the match hitting his pendant chops on Woods. Kofi got the tag and hit an SOS on Cesaro to counter. Sheamus downed Big E with a Brogue Kick outside the ring. Big Show got the tag and hit Kofi with the Knockout punch to pick up the win.
Smackdown main event featured Daniel Bryan vs. AJ Styles for the WWE Championship. AJ Styles hit a drop-kick on Bryan’s knees and locked in the Calf Crusher. Daniel Bryan managed to escape but AJ went for the Phenomenal Forearm. He landed it on the referee knocking him out. Bryan hit a low blow on AJ Styles following with the Running Knee to become the new WWE Champion. He assaulted AJ Styles even after the match to close the show.
