It was the go-home episode of Smackdown Live prior to Sunday Night’s Hell in a Cell PPV event. The personal rivalries over the WWE and the women’s championship reached the last stage before the PPV. Jeff Hardy kicked off Smackdown Live cutting a promo about Sunday’s Hell in a Cell match. He promised to vanquish the Viper’s Venom inside the steel structure. Shinsuke Nakamura came out to have a match against Jeff Hardy in the opening segment. Hardy took control of the matchup with a kick and jawbreaker. Thereafter, Hardy was able to hit the Whisper in the Wind and Twist of Fate.
This set up for the Swanton Bomb but Randy Orton disqualified the matchup. He started beating down Hardy with a steel chair in hand. Orton called for the RKO when Hardy counterattacked. Hardy hit Orton with chair shots before hitting the Swanton Bomb.
AJ Styles gave a strong message towards Samoa Joe in an empty arena of Smackdown Live. All Joe can do is talking to get the upper hand at Hell in a Cell. Styles stated, “No one has the upper hand on AJ Styles. At Hell in a Cell, the talking stops. The intimidation ends.” Samoa Joe also cut a promo on the show reminding us how he will steal the WWE title on this Sunday Night.
Charlotte Flair cut a promo prior to her matchup on Smackdown Live against Sonya Deville. Sonya countered a moonsault and hit a spinebuster on Charlotte. But The Queen came back with a powerbomb on Sonya. She locked in the Figure Eight thereafter to win the match. Becky Lynch came out from the back to deliver a post-match attack on Charlotte.
Rusev and Aiden English competed against The Bar for the number one contenders’ spot. The New Day was present at the commentary table to entertain us. The finishing moments of the match witnessed The Bar shoving Rusev off the ring after a scoop slam. Sheamus hit a Brogue Kick on Aiden allowing Rusev to hit the Machka Kick for the victory.
R-Truth faced Andrade Almas in a singles competition on Smackdown Live. Almas started with numerous chops to Truth who hit a hurricarana on Almas. Truth countered a suplex attempt from Almas to drop him face-first onto the mat. But he missed a scissors kick attempt allowing Almas to make the Tranquilo pose. Thereafter, Almas rolled Truth up for the win.
Brie Bella squared off against Maryse in the main event of Smackdown. The Miz talked about how his wife came back to ring within five months of pregnancy. Brie held the YES lock in Maryse before Miz pulled her down off the ring. A brawl broke out inside the ring as Miz and Maryse tried to deliver an ambush to Brie and Bryan. But the babyface couple shoved the IT couple off the ring to stand tall.
