Ravi Shastri Reveals the Reason Behind Virat Kohli’s Omission from Asia Cup
Team India head coach Ravi Shastri has finally opened up on the reason behind the omission of Virat Kohli from the recently concluded Asia Cup squad.
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma stepped up in Kohli’s absence to lead the team to the trophy. Moreover, India remained unbeaten throughout the tournament eventually winning the cup beating Bangladesh.
Speaking to Gulf News, Ravi Shastri revealed the reason behind Virat Kohli’s omission. He said that it was a case of mental fatigue and they wanted Virat Kohli to come afresh.
“Virat needed this rest. Physically, he is a boon, you can’t keep him out of the game. And the thing with Virat is if he plays, then you know the level of intensity he brings. So it was a case of just mental fatigue, giving him a break, take your mind off cricket and then come back fresh.
And we will have to do it with a lot of other players. You know like Bumah (Jasprit Bumrah), Bhuvi (Bhuvneshwar Kumar), we have to sustain them and keep them energetic,” Shastri said.
Meanwhile, this is the second time in this year the management rested Virat Kohli. Previously, Kohli opted out of the Nidahas trophy in Sri Lanka. India also went on to win the trophy under the leadership of Rohit Sharma beating Bangladesh.
Virat Kohli, however, will come back to lead India in the two-match Test series against Windies starting from October 4.
