Meanwhile, in the recently concluded Emirates D20 2020, Vriitya Aravind highly impressed with the bat as he finished as the second most run-scorer in that tournament. He scored 410 runs in 12 innings, including three half-centuries.

Meanwhile, their top bowlers are Rohan Mustafa (41 wickets in 37 ODIs) and skipper Ahmed Raza (35 wickets in 31 ODIs). Right-arm pacer Junaid Siddique has also impressed in his early days as he has taken 12 wickets in 6 ODIs.

Watch: Adam Zampa Deceives Kane Williamson With Superb Googly In First ODI

Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa hit the headlines for bowling one of the best deliveries in his cricketing career. The crafty leg-spinner bowled a sensational googly to get rid of New Zealand’s best batsman Kane Williamson during the first ODI of the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy at Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Friday (13th March).

The incident happened in the second ball of the 20th over when the leg-spinner Adam Zampa produced a mind-boggling delivery to outsmart Kane Williamson. Zampa bowled outside the off-stump which tempted the batsman a long way forward. However, confused Williamson hesitated to middle the ball and before he could actually think of playing the ball, the ball made a mess of his stumps.

Zampa has proved again why he is a crafty leg-spinner as he tricked Kane Williamson at the best scene. The leg-spinner also bagged the wicket of Colin de Grandhomme (25) after he showed some resistance, but New Zealand were bundled out for 187 in 41 overs, only to lose by 71 runs. Adam Zampa ended up with 2/50 in eight overs.

Talking about the match, David Warner, Aaron Finch and Marnus Labuschagne hit half-centuries apiece in Australia’s 71-run win over the visitors. Chasing a target of 258, New Zealand lacked enough teeth in the run-chase. When left-handed opener Henry Nicholls was dismissed in the 10th over, they were struggled to score runs as they could add just 28 on the board.

To make things worse for the Black Caps, Adam Zampa’s sensational delivery tricked Kane Williamson in the 20th over that saw the visitors at 64 for the loss of two wickets. Soon after that, wickets fell like a pack of cards. Tom Latham and Colin de Grandhomme scored 38 and 25 respectively, but that wasn’t enough for the visitors to pull off the big deal as New Zealand were bundled out for 187 in 41 overs.

New Zealand’s poor patch on the Australian soil continues once again. A few months ago, they were whitewashed (3-0) by Australia in the away Test series. The second match of the ongoing ODI series will be played in the same venue on Sunday (15th March).

India Vs South Africa 2020: 1st ODI, Dharamsala – Twitter Reactions

The India vs South Africa ODI series had to start on Thursday (12th March) at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium (Dharamsala), but the rain washed out the game. The cricket fans have slammed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for choosing Dharamshala for an international match.

India and South Africa are now busy in the three-match ODI series which is also their last international cricket assignment in the ongoing 2019/20 season. However, the fans have been massively disappointed after the rain canceled the opening game of the series in Dharamsala. Even, there was no possibility to conduct the toss.

From the last September, the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium (Dharamsala) got the responsibility of hosting two international matches. Incidentally, during the T20I series between India and South Africa, Dharamsala hosted the opening game of the series on 15th September 2019. However, it was also abandoned without a toss due to the rain.

Now, the same venue disappointed once again the entire cricket fans. Some have criticized the BCCI for deciding to host international cricket matches at this venue as they believe that it is not the right venue for international cricket.

In international cricket history, before last September, the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium (Dharamsala) hosted 13 international matches (only Test, four ODIs and eight T20Is). Though two T20Is had no results out of those matches, there was no record of match abandoned. But this inconvenience has happened only in the last two international matches.

India Vs South Africa 2020: 1st ODI, Dharamsala – Match Abandoned Due To Rain

The hosts India and the visitors South Africa were ready for the first game of the three-match ODI series at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium (Dharamsala). But the rain and wet outfield have forced to abandon this opening game of the series.

This is the last international series for both India and South Africa in the ongoing 2019/20 season. Both teams are in very different forms at the present moment as India lost their last three ODIs while South Africa won all their last three ODIs.

Last time, India and South Africa met in the ODI cricket during the round-robin stage of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 at Southampton on 5th June 2019. India won that match by six wickets.

Coming back to this Dharamsala ODI, the toss had been delayed due to wet conditions, while it was originally scheduled at 13:00 IST (also in local time). The umpires were initially scheduled to inspect the ground at 13:15 IST (also in local time). But that inspection was interrupted due to the rain.

For most of the entire original first session was wasted due to rain. While the cut-off time for a 20-over game was 18:30 IST (also in local time), the match officials decided to abandon the match around 17:20 IST (also in local time).

Apart from the weather issue, the stadium had a very lesser crowd due to the Covid-19 or Coronavirus outbreak.

Lucknow will host the next ODI between India and South Africa on this Sunday

After the abandoned result in the Dharamsala ODI, it is now going to be the two-match ODI series affair between India and South Africa. They will play the next game of this ODI series at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium (Lucknow) on this Sunday (15th March).

Eden Gardens (Kolkata) will host the last game of this series on 18th March.

Both the upcoming matches are likely to be played behind the close door as the Sports Ministry has recently advised it all the national federations.

India Vs South Africa 2020: ODI Series – Faf Du Plessis Adds A Lot Of Value For Us: Quinton De Kock

Ahead of the crucial ODI series against the hosts India, South African captain Quinton de Kock believes that the experienced players have to take major responsibilities in this tour as their overall squad hasn’t much experience yet.

South Africa have landed in India after winning the three-match home ODI series against Australia by the 3-0 margin. While the selectors have mostly maintained that ODI squad for the ongoing Indian tour, Faf du Plessis is an important addition in this squad. Quinton de Kock feels that Faf’s return to the ODI cricket is crucial for the team.

The Proteas captain said before the opening game of the ODI series, “Obviously, Faf (du Plessis) has comeback. He plays a big role for us from the leadership point of view. He is here to help out the younger guys in the team. He adds a lot of value for us. He also knows he has lot of value to give to this team. His experience will be a big help for us in this series.

“We understand that we are coming here with quite an inexperienced side in these conditions but it’s important Faf, me, David Miller to help out these guys around, lead the way. Pass on our knowledge to the youngsters.”

India and South Africa will play the first game of the three-match ODI series on Thursday (12th March) at Dharamsala.

Though Faf du Plessis was recently playing in the Tests and T20Is, he hasn’t played an ODI yet since the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, where he scored 63, 96* and 100 runs in the last three games respectively.

Quinton de Kock talked about Faf’s recent break from the game. While they are happy on his return to the side, the team hasn’t decided about Faf’s present batting position yet.

De Kock added, “He (Du Plessis) was given a chance to have a break. It’s been a long season so I think it was important to let him put his feet up for a while, just re-organise his thoughts.

“Just glad to have him back with us. We are undecided where he is going to bat at the moment but we will come up with the decision later.”

I am sure we are also coming here with a lot of confidence: Quinton de Kock

The Proteas captain praised the present Indian team. However, he is also confident about their strong fight on this important tour.

He said, “India is an unbelievable team, They have got great balance, but I am sure we are also coming here with a lot of confidence.”

The Proteas left-arm pacer Beuren Hendricks was ill, but he has recovered and ready for the upcoming matches in this tour. However, the South African captain isn’t sure about Temba Bavuma‘s fitness.

Quinton de Kock, “Beuran was unfortunately ill back in South Africa but he is back up for selection. Temba we will find out today but I don’t think he will be ready, I am not sure.”

India and South Africa will play the second and third ODI of this series at Lucknow and Kolkata on 15th and 18th March respectively.

India Vs South Africa 2020: 1st ODI, Dharamsala – Match Preview, Predicted XI, Prediction, Where to Watch

India and South Africa will end the ongoing international cricket season with the three-match ODI series in India. The first game of this series will be played at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on Thursday (12th March).

Both teams had completely different stories in their last ODI series. While India lost the three-match ODI series in New Zealand by the 3-0 margin, South Africa won the three-match home ODI series against Australia.

However, they will now have to face different challenges as India will now play at home, and South Africa will have to play as the away side.

It is going to be the last ODI series for both sides ahead of their journey in the 2020–22 ICC Cricket World Cup Super League, the direct qualifier process for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

Though India have already secured their place for the CWC 2023 as they will host this tournament, they will take the Super League as a preparation for the next CWC.

Date: 12th March 2020

Time: 13:30 IST

Venue: Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala

Weather forecast:

India Vs South Africa 2020: 1st ODI, Dharamsala – Match Preview, Predicted XI, Prediction, Where to Watch 1

The opening game of the ODI series is under the serious threat of rain. According to AccuWeather forecast, there is the possibility of little rain at the day time and thundershowers at night. This weather can hugely affect this day/night ODI.

Pitch Report:

Out of four ODIs at this venue, thrice the winners were second batting sides while the teams opting to bat first batting hugely struggled in those matches. Only once the first batting team won an ODI at this venue when India set the 300+ total in the first innings.

While the pacers generally get benefit at this venue, batsmen can score good runs after spending a good time on this pitch.

India’s Predicted XI:

India, South Africa, India vs South Africa, Match Preview, 1st ODI

Shikhar Dhawan, Hardik Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar have returned to the squad after recovering from their respective injuries. But the Indian team will miss the vice-captain Rohit Sharma and the right-arm pacer Mohammed Shami.

Prithvi Shaw and Shubman Gill are likely to fight for the opening spot while Ravindra Jadeja will now face the fight with Hardik Pandya to grab the all-rounder spot. The team management is also likely to go with one spinner in this ODI as they will have to choose between Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav.

Predicted XI: Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli (C), Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wk), Manish Pandey, Hardik Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Navdeep Saini, Yuzvendra Chahal and Jasprit Bumrah.

South Africa’s Predicted XI:

India, South Africa, India vs South Africa, Match Preview, 1st ODI

While Quinton de Kock has started his international captaincy period positively, Faf du Plessis‘ ODI return will boost this side. It is going to be the first presence in ODI for Faf du Plessis since the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.

The Proteas bowling side hasn’t the big experiences, and they will miss the right-arm fast bowler Kagiso Rabada.

Predicted XI: Quinton de Kock (C/wk), Janneman Malan, Faf du Plessis, Rassie van der Dussen, Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Andile Phehlukwayo, Keshav Maharaj, Anrich Nortje, Beuran Hendricks and Lungi Ngidi.

Match Prediction:

Though the Indian team is struggling at present, they are still a strong ODI side at home.

However, the South African team is also ready to stun everyone in this away series.
