ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Will Begin In 2021

In the recent ICC Board meetings in Dubai, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced to hold the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup for the first time in 2021.

ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup has started from 1988 (as Youth World Cup). However, it is happening regularly as a biennial event since its second edition in 1998. It is the 50-over tournament in ODI format. The men’s U19 Cricket World Cup is now growing up very well and the tournament is also achieving some great success. Many countries have consistently got talented top-class cricketers from this tournament.

Bangladesh will host the inaugural ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup

ICC is now planning to introduce the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup. The first edition of this tournament will be held in 2021. Bangladesh will host the inaugural edition of this tournament. Like the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup, it will be also a biennial event.

ICC raises the prize money for ICC Women’s events

ICC has also raised $2.6 million prize money for ICC Women’s events. The upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 will see around 320% growth in the overall prize money than the previous edition (2018). Meanwhile, the winners and runners-up will get $1 million and $500,000 respectively – around five times higher than the previous edition. A total of 10 teams will participate in this upcoming competition. Australia will host the Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 from 21st February to 8th March 2020.

The ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2017 had the overall prize money of $2 million. ICC has increased this amount too for the next edition. New Zealand will host the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2021 in January-February and the overall prize money of that tournament will be $3.5 million.

The ICC is now planning for the eight-year cycle global events from 2023-2031. They have approved eight Women’s events and four Women’s U19 events, just like men’s global events, for this eight-year cycle.
