India vs Australia: Shikhar Dhawan Becomes The Fifth Batsman To Strike 1000 ODI Runs Against Australia

India is currently playing the ODI series against the tough competitor, Australia. In the first ODI match, Shikhar Dhawan reached the new milestone. He became the fifth Indian cricketer to score 1000 runs against Australia in ODIs.

In first ODI match against Australia, Virat Kohli added both KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan in the playing XI. He sacrificed his place and sent KL Rahul to bat at no.3 after Rohit Sharma lost his wicket at 10. However, Dhawan and KL Rahul set a stable partnership.

Dhawan pulled some eye-soothing drives against the Australian speedsters and found his rhythm gradually to attain a special feat in the process. He struck nine fours and a maximum, scoring 74 runs in 91 balls. Now, he registered other records in his book of scoring 1000 runs against the Kangaroo in One Day Internationals.

2.MS Dhoni (1,660 runs)

3.Rohit Sharma (2,047 runs)

4.Virat Kohli (1,743 runs)

5.Shikhar Dhawan (1,049 runs)

Selectors have a big responsibility after Shikhar Dhawan has returned to the form

Talking about the game, Virat Kohli’s decision to bat at No.4 has backfired him. After KL Rahul lost his wicket at 47 runs, Virat Kohli entered the field to give the stability as the set batsman Shikhar Dhawan also lost his wicket on 74 runs. Unfortunately, on the ball of Adam Zampa, Indian skipper gave the direct catch to the bowler which the leg-spinner grabbed properly. Kohli went back to the pavilion after scoring just 16 runs.

Now, it’s a big responsibility on the shoulder of the team management and selectors to select the appropriate candidate for the opening partner of Rohit Sharma. Seeing KL Rahul’s last performance, he deserves to be on the Indian side. If the strike rate is compared in T20I cricket, Rahul takes an edge over Shikhar Dhawan. But considering the last T20I performance of Shikhar Dhawan against Sri Lanka, he has put the selectors under difficulty. Now, it is the responsibility of Virat Kohli to observe the performance of both Rahul and Dhawan closely.

Shane Warne Advise To Upgrade Border-Gavaskar Trophy To Five-Match Test Series

The most awaited Test series for the Indian spectator is against Australia who is a tough competitor for Men in Blue. Former Australian cricketer Shane Warne wants to upgrade the Border-Gavaskar trophy (a four-match Test series between India and Australia) to a new level.

I hope both the BCCI & CA make it happen – Shane Warne

Shane Warne wants to add one more Test match in this Test series to make it a five-match Test series (like Ashes). Also, he proposed the inclusion of three day-night Test matches with two traditional fashion of Test matches. He wants the BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and Cricket Australia (CA) to draw their attention to his idea.

Shane Warne wrote on his twitter handle: “I’ve said this before-but how good would a 5 test match series between Aust & India be next season. Bris Perth Adelaide D/N Melb & Syd. I hope both the BCCI & CA make it happen. Scheduling is not an excuse @BCCI @cricketcomau @imVkohli @tdpaine36 @SGanguly99
Agree with followers ??”

It is not the first time the former Australian cricketer has given his advice for the Test series between India and Australia. Last year, when India won the first time the Test series against Australia in Australia, India had been requested to play a day/night Test in Australia during that tour but the visitors had declined that offer. India had fair chances to win the series because Australia was playing the Tests without their star batsman David Warner and Steve Smith.

Meanwhile, the Australian team has arrived in India to play the three-match ODI series. The series will start from 14th January scheduled in Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. The second and Third ODI matches will be played on 17th and 19th Jan respectively. Whereas India will tour Australia in October to play the Border Gavaskar trophy, three T20Is and three ODIs along with the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020.

India vs Australia ODI Series: Five Australian Players Who Can Create A Problem For Team India

After playing the T20I series against Sri Lanka, team India will now play the ODI series against a tough opposition Australia in the home ground. The first ODI match of this series will be the first meeting between Australia and India after the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, where the Men in Blue defeated Australia. This ODI series will start on 14th January.

In 2019, India created history after winning the first time the bilateral Test and ODI series against Australia in Australia. Though at that time their two star-batsman Steve Smith and David Warner, were not playing because they were serving the ban for the ball-tampering case. However, later, in March 2019, Australia beat the hosts India in the five-match ODI series by the 3-2 margins, despite once trailing that series by the 2-0 margin.

This time the Australians are travelling with a strong squad of 14 players. Some Australian players in this squad are constantly performing well and might be a danger in the Indian conditions. Here, Sportzwiki understands that below-mentioned five players can give a tough fight to the Indians.

Adam Zampa has always been a danger to the Indian Batsmen. He has almost all successful outings against India in India. From 2016, he is playing regular limited-overs international matches for Australia.

The leg-spinner has played eight ODI matches in India and has picked 15 wickets at an economy rate of 6.21. Seeing Indian condition, which assists spinners more in comparison to the pacers, he will surely be an attacking bowler.

Virat Kohli Believes Comparison Disturbs Team Culture

After performing the best in the recent home T20I series against Sri Lanka, Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul have put the team management under big trouble. But the Indian captain Virat Kohli believes that the two teammates are fighting for one position is not healthy for team culture.

KL Rahul or Shikhar Dhawan in Virat Kohli’s game plan:

As the T20 World Cup is lined up this year, the team management has the big responsibility to choose the best playing XI for the tournament. While Virat Kohli suggests that the player is best in the form will likely get the chance, he has also hinted that both Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul might play in the final XI. It will lead to the demotion of Virat Kohli’s position at No.4.

“Look, a guy in form is always good for the team. …You obviously want to have the best players available and then chose what the combination should be for the team. There might be a possibility that all three (Rohit, Shikhar, and Rahul) might play. It will be interesting to see what balance we want to take in on the field,” Kohli said on the eve of the match.

KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan

Following this, Virat Kohli also urged the media not to telecast the programmes which show the fight between two teammates for the position in the team. According to him, it might disturb the environment within the team.

” I want to say this publicly because I see so many features and programmes being made about this versus this. We are a team and playing together. I don’t find the sense in heat is going up and they are fighting for one spot. It does not send the right message as far as the team culture is concerned,” Virat Kohli said ahead of the first ODI match against Australia.

Meanwhile, India and Australia will head to play the three-match ODI series, starting from 14th January at Mumbai. Second and third are scheduled in Rajkot (17th January) and Bangalore (19th January).

This three-match ODI series will be a challenging series for India. When Australia last time toured in India in early 2019, the visitors registered the victory in the five-match ODI series by the 3-2 margins. But it is not so easy to register the victory against India in India again. Also, India has constantly won the home series this season. So, Virat Kohli and Co. will be confident to ride on the winning horse in this series too.

But it should be noted that India is not playing with their strong bowling combination as Bhuvneshwar Kumar is out of the game and Jasprit Bumrah is making a comeback in the game after having a long break in international level. Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya is also under the rehabilitation period.

If we talk about stats, India is far behind in the race of winning the game. Australia has been dominant in the Indian condition too with winning 29 ODI matches among 66 While India has won 27 games. So, the first ODI match will be thriller not like other last home series where the opposition was weak.

India Is A best Opposition, Tougher To Beat India In India: Marnus Labuschagne

Marnus Labuschagne is the accidental hero of Australia who came as the replacement of a teammate in the Ashes 2019 and has now earned a permanent place in the Test team. Above that, he will also make the debut in the ODI series against India. Labuschagne seems to be excited to play against India in India.

Entering the ground with chewing the gum and scoring centuries is the special talent Australian cricketer Marnus Labuschagne has got. He has an incredible summer Test series. In the last five Test matches, he has scored three centuries and one double century (against New Zealand).

In 2018, he made the debut in the Australian Test team. He had a satisfactory start in his career. Labuschagne got the opportunity in Ashes 2019 where he amazed by his performance. During Ashes, Steve Smith was ruled out of the third Test match because of concussion which opened up the place to Labuschagne.

Marnus Labuschagne
Marnus Labuschagne Will Debut Against India.

Since then, he has not stopped his bat from scoring half-centuries and centuries. Now, Marnus Labuschagne is looking forward to the next challenge against India. He believes that India is the toughest team, especially, to beat the Men in Blue in India is a tough task.

“Whenever you play India, it’s a tough series because they’re a very tough opposition. They’ve got great batters and bowlers, so it’s going to be a challenge,” Labuschagne was quoted as saying by the Cricket Australia website.

“But as a player, you always want to test yourself against the best opposition in the toughest conditions, and there’s nothing tougher than India in India.”

The 25-year-old is being already compared with big players like Virat Kohli, Steve Smith, and Kane Williamson. However, he believes that there is a lot more work to be done before he is compared to modern-day successful cricketers.

After competing against Sri Lanka in the home T20Is, India will play the three-match ODI series against the visiting side Australia, scheduled from 14-19 January.

Tim Paine Eyeing To Play The Mouth Watering Test Series Against India

Though the four-match Test series between India and Australia is scheduled at the end of 2020, the buzz has already started. Australian Test captain Tim Paine, who is currently riding the team on winning horse, has said that the Australian team is now different than the team against which India won the Test series last year.

‘Not looking at it as a revenge’

In Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2018/19, Virat Kohli-led Indian team created the history after they won the Test series against Australia in Australia for the first time. Though some were not as happy with that series result, and the reason was that Australia was playing without their star players David Warner and Steve Smith.

Now, these two players have made a comeback after serving the one-year ban for the ball-tampering case, and currently leading the national side to the victory. With their comeback, the Australian skipper Tim Paine is confident that now his team can give a tough fight to India. However, he has made it clear that it will not be revenge, but an awesome series as both the sides have developed their game.

“I certainly won’t be looking at it as revenge,” Paine said of summer 2020-21.

“We are certainly a different side from what they played against last year and there’s more at stake – Test Championship points – and both teams are eyeing off that final, so points will be critical. If we can continue our upward trend from the last 12 months then you are looking at two of the best sides, so it will be an awesome series. Even being in Australia, they showed last year they have a pace battery that can be every bit as threatening as ours so it will be one to watch.’

Tim Pain targeting Bangladesh series

In the ongoing home summer, Australia has beaten both the visiting countries in Tests. Pakistan was badly defeated as they lost both the Test matches against Australia. New Zealand also lost the three-match Test series by a 3-0 margin. Australia has shown the world-class performance, being at second number in the points table of ICC World Test championship 2019-21.

Tim Pain has claimed that he is working on the next assignment against Bangladesh, but he is also waiting for the home Test series against India. He labelled the new Test series against India as mouth-watering series.

Tim Paine and Virat Kohli

“Well first in Bangladesh. Every time you go to the subcontinent, the series is very, very hard to win. We’ve got our eye on that. We’ve obviously got our eye on next summer as well. If we go to Bangladesh and play well and get some wins over there, then you come back to Australia to play India, which is quite a mouth-watering series for players and the fans.”

“It’s hard not to be looking at that. We’ve got some people who’re employed in Cricket Australia who are already looking ahead to that series. But for the main playing group, your goal as a group is Bangladesh and you certainly can’t take it lightly.”

Meanwhile, Australia will tour India to play the three-match ODI series starting from 14th January 2020. After the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020, India will play the four-match Test series in Australia.

Suresh Raina Reveals What Was MS Dhoni’s Mindset When He Played His Last Test

Today is the day when MS Dhoni shocked everyone with his decision of retiring from Test cricket. Nobody had an idea that the wicket-keeper was playing his last Test match of the career except his close teammate Suresh Raina.

In Broder-Gavaskar trophy (four-match Test series) 2014-2015, India failed to register the victory in the first two Test matches as Australia got the lead of 2-0. In the third Test match at Melbourne, Virat Kohli, Ishant Sharma, and Mohammed Shami were the effective players. The then-captain MS Dhoni scored unbeaten 24 runs to save the third Test match.

In the post-match press conference of the third Test match, MS Dhoni shockingly announced retirement from Test cricket with immediate effect. Indian cricket fans were astonished by MS Dhoni’s retirement. The young player Virat Kohli was handed over the captaincy of the Test format. The last and the fourth Test match of the series was also drawn, and Australia won that series by 2-0.

Indian cricketer Suresh Raina was the only one who had an idea about MS Dhoni’s retirement.

“Nobody had a clue about retirement. He came up to me & said that ‘I have an extra-large (jersey). This is Double XL. Keep this!’ He was having his breakfast & not talking to anyone. So, I thought something is going to happen in the evening.”

Like the limited-overs formats, MS Dhoni was also a successful Test captain

MS Dhoni was the most successful Test captain of India before Virat Kohli took the team forward. Under Dhoni’s captaincy, the Indian team played 60 Test matches among which India won 27, lost 18 and drew 15. In total, the former Indian captain played 90 Test matches and scored 4876 runs.

Currently, Dhoni has taken a long break from Indian cricket. He is out of the action after the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. His absence from the game has increased the speculation of his retirement from cricket.

Virat Kohli-Led Team Fullfilled The Dream Of VVS Laxman

In 2019, India has achieved great heights in cricket under the captaincy of Virat Kohli. One of the notable victories was against Australia in Australia in the Test series. It was the dream for many former Indian cricketers like VVS Laxman to defeat Australia in their soil.

While talking about his favourite moment in Indian cricket, VVS Laxman mentioned the victory over Australia in Australia in the Test series. He further added that it was his dream which Virat Kohli and co have fulfilled.

“It’s been a very good year for Indian cricket but being a Test cricketer, my dream was always to beat Australia in Australia but I was not able to achieve that in my career,”

“I’m so glad that this Indian team under Virat’s leadership has been beaten Australia for the first time in their own backyard which is my favorite moment of Indian cricket in 2019,”

The victory:

Last year in November, India toured Australia to play three T20I, Border-Gavaskar trophy and three ODIs. The T20I series was drawn as both the team won one match each and one match was washed out due to rain.

Then India and Australia played the four-match Test series. India went on to register the victory in the first Test match but Australia made a strong comeback in the second Test match, winning the match by 146 runs. The third Test match at MCG was crucial for India to make a come back in the series.

The Men in Blue didn’t disappoint the fans as they went on winning the third Test match. The pacer Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami had big contributions in the game.

Everyone had an eye on the fourth and the last Test match of the series. Cheteshwar Pujara and Rishabh Pant scored 193 and 159 runs respectively. India set a total of 622 runs but could not win the match as it was drawn.

However, India won the first time the Test series in Australia with the margin of 2-1. Also, the Men in Blue won the ODI series for the first time in Australian soil.

Imagined Scoring A Century, Got Out On Duck: Shikhar Dhawan Recalls His ODI Debut

India’s white-ball opener Shikhar Dhawan made his much-awaited ODI debut against Australia in the year 2010. Persistent rain washed out first ODI the series and Dhawan had to wait for one more game to finally don the India cap.

In an interview with India TV, the senior batsman revealed that after washed-out Kochi game, he took sleeping pills and dreamt of scoring a century in the second ODI. He got out on a duck after being bowled by Clint McKay.

“When I was about to make my debut, I was switching sides the night before and couldn’t sleep. My dream was to play for India and now I have reached there. So I could not sleep all night. As I could not sleep all night, I was getting worried about how the energy would last all day. When I woke up in the morning, it was raining and the match was cancelled. Then I took a sleeping pill to sleep the night before the next match,” Dhawan told India TV.

“When I got out for 0 on my ODI debut, I went back laughing. It was disappointing because I imagined myself scoring a century,” Dhawan recalled when asked about nerves ahead of his ODI debut,” he added.

The left-handed batsman made occasional comebacks in the limited-overs team till May 2013 until he got selected for ICC Champions Trophy. It was a surprise call for the left-handed batsman and since then, there has been no looking back for him and Rohit Sharma, who started opening for India regularly right from the ICC tournament.

Dhawan did get a drop from playing XI but has never been dropped from the ODI team. He and Rohit Sharma have formed a strong pair at the top of the order and have created oodles of records.

Just like his ODI debut, Dhawan’s Test debut was also a rain-marred affair. The first day of the Mohali Test against Australia was washed out. He got his chance to bat after Australia’s innings and this time, Dhawan got flying start as he played an innings of 187, highest by an India on his Test debut.

India are still looking for openers in red-ball cricket and performances for Delhi in domestic cricket can see him make his Test comeback.

For now, Dhawan’s immediate focus is on T20 cricket. He didn’t have a good record in T20 cricket but with 76 runs in South Africa series, he has ensured that he keeps his place in the side for Bangladesh T20Is.
