Matthijs De Ligt Completes Transfer To Juventus In A €75 Million Deal

Juventus and AFC Ajax have agreed a transfer worth €75 million for centre back Matthijs De Ligt.

The 19 year old defender has moved to Turin, signing a 5 year contract at the club. A top defensive prospect across Europe. De Ligt was being chased by top European clubs including F.C Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Manchester United, PSG and the list continues.

However, he chose to sign for Juventus. De Ligt had his medical in Turin on Wednesday and has signed a contract with the club today. He is set to earn €12 million per season.

De Ligt’s agent Mino Raiola told the press “Barcelona? You all wrote so much bullsh*t!”.

“It’s not a question of who wanted him most, but Juve are the best team for him. For a defender it is important to come to Italy. If you are to become the greatest in the world, it is a necessary stage.

“He’s the number one among the youngsters. He’s like [Pavel] Nedved, maybe more than him, for his mentality and he’s like Zlatan [Ibrahimovic] for his ambition. He has it all.”

De Ligt won the domestic double with Ajax last season. He also captained his side to the semifinals of the Champions League last season, knocking out Real Madrid and Juventus from the tournament. He set his reputation very well across Europe.

At 19, he has already been capped for the Netherlands national football team for 17 times, and is a regular. He is tall, agile and fast, and also possesses exceptional heading ability.

Juve have made 7 signings this summer, in their quest to winning the Champions League. The old lady’s trio of BBC containing Andrea Barazagli, Leonardo Bonnuci and Giorgio Chelinni, broke away this season with Barazagli’s retirement. De ligt would join the other two to maintain the wall of the Old Lady, feared by the whole of Europe.

Gianluigi Buffon Re-signs With His Former Club Juventus

After a one year stint at French champions Paris Saint-Germain, Gianluigi Buffon returns to Juventus on a free transfer.

The Old lady welcomed Gianluigi Buffon who spent 17 years at Turin before joining PSG for another spell as the understudy of Wojciech Szczesny’s. After his move was confirmed Buffon seemed very happy and said  resigning with Juve are ‘happiest and beautiful days of my life’.

Buffon won the league one and Trophee des Champions  during his one year at PSG, playing as the number one choice for the  French club. However, he refused to extend his contract and decided to move back to his old club

On completing his move, Buffon said : “I am happy to have returned home and to have the opportunity again to embrace you and to be embraced by you.

“This is one of the happiest and beautiful days of my life. Today I received the confirmation that life is incredible and it’s always worth dreaming.”

Silvano Martina, Buffon’s agent told that he has snubbed big offers from Premier League to resign with the Bianconeri.

“Buffon has always made choices with his heart and never for his wallet. You can compare his return home to that of a husband who after an escapade can’t wait to hug his wife again.

Juve are aiming high this season, as they look forward to win the Champions League with their new manager Maurizio Sarri and talisman Cristiano Ronaldo. They’ve made enough signings this window to have a perfect squad depth for competing for all the trophies in the league and a European triumph.

Afrter already signing Arsenal midfielders, Aaron Ramsey and Adrien Rabiot for free deals , the Old lady only lacked depth in midfield last season, and they look to have filled the void by the signing of Rabiot and Ramsey. Juve have also signed left back Luca Pellegrini from AS Roma in this transfer window and are also heavily linked with a move for 19 year old, Ajax centre back, Matthias De Ligt.

Maurizio Sarri Leaves Chelsea To Join Juventus

Juventus announce Maurizio Sarri’s arrival on a 3-year deal as the former Napoli manager left Chelsea after just one season.

Maurizio Sarri who left Chelsea after a one year spell in West London, is appointed by Juventus as a successor to Massimiliano Allegri, who left the club after the 2018/19 season ended.

The Bianconeri paid Chelsea £5 million in understood compensation for the manager still in contract.

“In talks we had following the Europa League final, Maurizio made it clear how strongly he desired to return to his native country, explaining that his reasons for wanting to return to work in Italy were significant,” said Chelsea director Marina Granovskia.

“He also believed it important to be nearer his family, and for the well-being of his elderly parents he felt he needed to live closer to them at this point. We would also like to congratulate him on securing the role as big as any in Serie A and to wish him the best of luck for the future.”

Roman Abramovich gave Sarri a decent budget for his first season as he signed goalkeeper Kepa in a £73 million deal and midfielder Jorginho for £50 million in the summer transfer window, and striker Higuain on loan in the winter transfer window.

Sarri, who had never won a trophy previously, won Europa League with Chelsea and also finished 3rd in the Premier League race.

Chelsea want club legend Frank Lampard to succeed Sarri but it won’t be an easy task as Derby County have wanted him to stay. The Championship side have already opened talks with Lampard over a possible contract extension and Chelsea are yet to enter the talks.

There won’t be any new players coming for the next two transfer windows in Chelsea, as they are banned by FIFA for braking regulations over the signing of youth players. The blues have appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to try to get the ban overturned.

Sarri had managed Napoli before joining Chelsea, and knows the Seria A very well. He has some pressure on his shoulders as he replaces Allegri who had won 5 League titles in a row with the Old Lady.

Champions League: Stunned by Young Boys, Juventus still win Group H

Champions League: Stunned by Young Boys, Juventus still win Group H

Bern (Switzerland), Dec 13: BSC Young Boys defeated Juventus 2-1, but the Italian juggernaut still won Champions League Group H thanks to second-place Manchester United’s loss to Valencia.

Juve came into Wednesday night’s contest at the Bern’s Stade de Suisse here as a heavy favourite, having won 14 of their 15 Serie A matches and all but one of the five previous Champions League games, reports Efe.

The visitors dominated for the first 25 minutes, as Cristiano Ronaldo forced a save from Young Boys keeper Marco Wölfli in the 13th minute and threatened on two subsequent occasions before Juve suffered a setback with the loss of Juan Guillermo Cuadrado to injury.

Five minutes later, his replacement, Alex Sandro, fouled Ngoumo Ngamaleu in the area. The referee awarded the penalty to Young Boys and Guillaume Hoarau converted to put the Swiss team ahead 1-0.

The Bianconeri spared no effort in pursuit of the equalizer, yet it was the underdogs who got the next goal as the match entered the final quarter.

Hoarau went forward on the counter and beat defender Leonardo Bonucci before tucking the ball inside the near post for the 2-0 lead in the 68th minute.

Conceding a second time prompted Juventus coach to beef up the attack with Paulo Dybala and the Argentine pulled back a goal for the visitors in the 80th minute, with an assist from Ronaldo.

Juve stepped on the gas and nearly equalized in the 86th with a Ronaldo header that hit the post, but the high drama materialized deep into stoppage time, when a stunning goal by Dybala was disallowed after the referee concluded that Cristiano was offside and obstructed Wölfli.

Juventus midfielder Khedira suffers ankle injury

Rome, Nov 18: Juventus midfielder Sami Khedira has sprained his left ankle during training, the Serie A side said.

The Serie A defending champion said the German midfielder immediately started therapy and his condition would be assessed daily, reports Efe.

Khedira’s inclusion in the Juventus squad when the Turin team hosts Spal on November 24 was in doubt.

The Italian side is also scheduled to face Valencia in the UEFA Champions League group stage on November 27.

It comes as a blow to head coach Massimiliano Allegri, who also lost key midfielder Emre Can, who recently underwent thyroid surgery, and forward Federico Bernardeschi, who suffered a muscle injury.

Juventus leads the Serie A standings with 34 points, six points ahead of second-placed Napoli.

Ronaldo bluntly denies accusations of rape

Rome, Oct 3: Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo on Wednesday strongly denied the accusations of a woman, who claims that the Portugal forward raped her in 2009.

The denial of Cristiano Ronaldo who joined Juvetus in the past summer transfer window for 112 million euros ($129 million) after spending nine years at Real Madrid, comes after the German magazine Der Spiegel revealed the identity of the woman; American model Kathryn Mayorga, reports Efe.

“I firmly deny the accusations being issued against me. Rape is an abominable crime that goes against everything that I am and believe in,” the 33-year-old forward tweeted.

“Keen as I may be to clear my name, I refuse to feed the media spectacle created by people seeking to promote themselves at my expense,” he stressed.

Mayorga claims that the rape took place in a nightclub in Las Vegas, the United States, in the summer of 2009, when Cristiano signed for Real Madrid from Manchester United.

The accusations got a lot of media attention when some channels broadcast on Wednesday images taken at the Palms Casino Resort of the night in question that allegedly dated back to 2009.

Shortly after the release of the images, Ronaldo denied these accusations with a message on his Twitter account in both Portuguese and English.

“My clear conscious will thereby allow me to await with tranquility the results of any and all investigations,” Ronaldo added.

Breaking: Cristiano Ronaldo Cleared To Face Manchester United After Receiving One-Match Ban

Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo will serve only a mandatory one-game ban for his first-ever red card in the Champions League. UEFA’s disciplinary panel has decided not to add a further sanction to the mandatory punishment. As a result, the Portugal international is now clear to face former club Manchester United when Juventus visits Old Trafford on October 23.

A UEFA statement said: “The CEDB has decided to suspend the Juventus Football Club player Cristiano Ronaldo for one (1) UEFA competition match for which he would be otherwise eligible.”

Ronaldo was shown the red-card in the season-opener against Valencia.  Ronaldo appeared to pull the hair of defender Jeison Murillo before being given the marching order.

It was the first time he was sent off in 15 years of playing in the Champions League.

The Juventus striker left the pitch in tears after seeing red for the off-the-ball incident.  He couldn’t launch an appeal against the straight red received in the 29th minute at the Mestalla.  The former Real Madrid stalwart, who was making his Champions League debut for Juventus, clashed with Murillo before the Valencia defender fell theatrically to the ground.

An annoyed Ronaldo then reached down and appeared to grab the hair of the defender. In the next moment, Murillo stood up and squared up to the Juventus forward. Things then got worse for Ronaldo as the referee showed him a straight red just before the half-hour mark.

His dismissal, however, did not affect Juventus much as two penalties from Miralem Pjanic saw the Italian beat Valencia 2-0 to walk away with all three points. The Serie A champions will be looking to continue their winning start when they take on Young Boys without Ronaldo.

Ronaldo will return to action in the continental showpiece at Old Trafford before facing his former side in Turin on November 7.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored 118 goals in 292 games for United between 2003 and 2009. He won three Premier League titles, the Champions League and the Club World Cup before leaving for Real Madrid.

German Midfielder Emre Can Apologizes for Sexist Comment

Germany and Juventus midfielder, Emre Can has aplologised for his sexist remarks he had made in reference to defending Cristiano Ronaldo.

While defending Ronaldo, Can passed a controversial comment

It all began when Cristiano Ronaldo was given a shock red card at the 29th minute in his UCL debut for Juventus. However, while defending Ronaldo, midfielder Emre Can said,

“That’s supposed to be a red!? I just heard that he said it was because of hair pulling. We’re not women; we’re playing football. If you’re giving that as a red card, you can be sent off for any foul. One hundred per cent that is not a red card.”

After Can made such a call, it got termed as an disrespect for women footballers, and the Germany international immediately apologised on his Twitter handle.

“I would like to take a moment to clear the air regarding the comments I made after last night’s game. My response after seeing the video footage of Cristiano’s sending off seemed to have caused some commotion. I would like to state that the comments made were never focused on nor meant to degrade women, women’s football or equality in any form. Everyone who knows me knows about my respect for women, equality and respect.”

“My intention was to stick up for my teammate regarding a wrong decision which could have affected our game. I sincerely apologise if any of the comments I made have caused any harm.”

Meanwhile, it’s yet to be known if Ronaldo will remain suspended for the next two UCL games or the ban will get reduced. If it doesn’t, there will no homecoming for Ronaldo, as he is set to miss the clash against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

UEFA Champions League: Ronaldo Sees Red on Juventus Debut, Lyon Stun Manchester City

The UEFA Champions League rarely fails to disappoint. And the first matchday of a brand new season has started on the same note. On the very first day, the likes of Liverpool and Barcelona proved their title-credentials while the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint Germain failed to start the season on a good note.

Well, the second day of the competition was equally exciting. So without further ado, let’s get to the results and take a closer look at just what happened on the opening matchday of the UEFA Champions League group stage.

Lyon stun Manchester City:

UEFA Champions League
Lyon beat Manchester City.

English Premier League champions, Manchester City suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Lyon at their home. One of the favourites of this year’s competition, City suffered their third consecutive defeat in UEFA Champions League after losing the two legs against Liverpool in the quarterfinals last season.

Maxwel Cornet and Nabil Fekir scored for the visitors before Bernardo Silva pulled one back for the home side. With coach Pep Guardiola watching the game from the stands, City made several mistakes one of which led to the opening goal.

“We saw two very different halves. We conceded many counter-attacks, and at this level, you get punished,” said City assistant coach Mikel Arteta, who was filling in for Guardiola. “If you give cheap goals away, it is difficult.”

In the other Group F game earlier on Wednesday, Brazilian youngster Maycon came off the bench to rescue Shakhtar Donetsk a 2-2 draw in their game against group-stage debutants Hoffenheim in Kharkiv.

Ronaldo sees Red, but Juventus win:

Cristiano Ronaldo‘s dreams of starting his UEFA Champions League career with Juventus ended in a tearful manner, as the five-time Champions League winner was shown a controversial straight red just before the half-hour mark after a collision with Valencia defender Jeison Murillo. A tearful Ronaldo then made his way out of the field.

Juventus, however, did not miss their latest star much, as they won the game 2-0 thanks to two penalties from Miralem Pjanic. The Italian champions defended well after that to maintain their lead. Wojciech Szczesny also saved a Daniel Parejo spot-kick in the final minutes of injury-time.

Pogba inspired United to an emphatic win

In another game of Group H, Manchester United thrashed Young Boys by 3-0. Paul Pogba scored twice and set up one for Anthony Martial to ease the pressure off Jose Mourinho.

Real Madrid start defence in style:

UEFA Champions League
Gareth Bale scored for Real Madrid.

Defending champions, Real Madrid showed they are still severe contenders for the biggest stage despite seeing Ronaldo leave for Juventus in the close-season, as Julen Lopetegui’s men saw off Roma 3-0.

Isco curled home a sumptuous 45th-minute free-kick to give the 13-time champions the lead. Gareth Bale and new signing Mariano Diaz then sealed the win.

“I thought the performance was very good tonight; the only disappointment was that we didn’t score more,” said Bale.

In another game of Group G in UEFA Champions League, CSKA Moscow came back from two goals down to salvage a 2-2 draw at Viktoria Plzen, with Everton loanee, Nikola Vlasic scoring an injury-time penalty.

Five-time champions, Bayern Munich, got their Group E campaign off to a solid start. Riding on goals from Robert Lewandowski and Renato Sanches, Niko Kovac’s men eased to a 2-0 triumph against Benfica in Lisbon. Ajax cruised to a 3-0 victory over AEK Athens in Amsterdam.
