So the two matches took place as per the schedule as we now have the first two second-round participants. In the first hosted King of the Ring match on WWE Raw, Cesaro competed against Samoa Joe in a physical match. Cesaro hit the Gutwrench Suplex followed which Joe countered with a senton. But the headliner of tonight’s episode of WWE Raw will be a United States Championship match. The champion will be colliding against the Monster among Men for his first title defense after Summerslam. Plus, King of the Ring tournament kicks off from tonight onwards. Two solid matches will take place to take the tourney under process. Also, the 24/7 Championship picture will move forward as the show emanates from the XCEL Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Backstage Update On The Fiend Character Of Bray Wyatt

Rey Mysterio’s Son Dominick Returning On WWE Raw, Soon

The main event match of WWE Raw is official for this week as AJ Styles issued a challenge to the returning Braun Strowman. The US Champion was in action against Seth Rollins with the Club trying to help him. With the number-games by his side, AJ started a beatdown until the Monster arrived. This angle confirmed the matchup for tonight as announced by WWE.com,

“As AJ Styles, Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson pummeled Universal Champion Seth Rollins during Raw’s Champion vs. Champion main event, Braun Strowman joined frequent O.C. foe Ricochet in helping The Beastslayer even the odds, sending a powerful message to The Phenomenal One and his cruel cohorts. In a WWE.com interview following the physical altercation with The Monster Among Men, Styles challenged Strowman to a match next week, where the United States Title will be on the line. Strowman accepted the challenge via Twitter.”

Meanwhile, the backstage news is that Braun Strowman is the next challenger for the Universal Championship. He is likely to compete against Seth Rollins over the title in the main event of Clash of Champions. It will be interesting to see how WWE twists this angle and inserts Strowman into the title feud. Plus, the question is whether they will keep the monster as a babyface or convert him into a heel for this storyline.

Ever since Sasha Banks returned to the scene on WWE Raw, she has been taking the internet by storm. The heel turn of the Legit Boss of WWE is likely to change the complexion of the entire women’s division, so to speak. This will keep her straight into the title picture, as per the recent updates. After the beatdown Becky Lynch received from her, it is a sure-shot thing she is coming for a redemption. This will automatically announce her next title defense at Clash of Champions.

King of the Ring tournament kicks off tonight featuring superstars from both red and blue brand. Tonight, four superstars from WWE Raw will compete in two separate matches to begin the tourney. Samoa Joe will square off against Cesaro in a first-time matchup that could steal the show. Plus, the high-flyer Cedric Alexander takes on against Sami Zayn in another fresh contest for KOTR. We predict Joe and Cedric will be the winners in their respective matches to advance to the next round.

Drake Maverick is on a mission to get back the WWE 24/7 Championship for the past couple of weeks. He chased down the current champion, Elias by all means possible to get the title back. He should be on a run even on tonight’s WWE Raw that should present us with numerous hilarious moments and provide non-stop entertainment.

Kevin Owens
Chad Gable
Andrade
Shelton Benjamin
Buddy Murphy

For those who are not familiar with the enriched tradition of King of the Ring, the tourney has started way back in 1985. The first man to officially name himself “King” was the legendary Hall of Famer, the late Harley Race, dubbing himself King Harley Race. Several other superstars used the same moniker, going forward like Booker T aka King Booker which he played an egotistical character.

Later, superstars like Kurt Angle, Edge, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Triple H, Brock Lesnar, Sheamus and more have won King of the Ring tournament that cemented their legacies, in future. The last such King was Bad News Barrett whom WWE never gave the push forcing him to become a failure. Since then, they also stopped hosting the tournament until the latest announcement came on Raw.

Sasha Banks Returns On WWE Raw, Attacks Becky Lynch

With Paul Heyman and Eric Bischoff involved with both WWE Raw and Smackdown programming, we have predicted big changes may be coming up in WWE. The announcement of King of the Ring return must be a part of the process. While the new executive directors have come up with the idea, Vince McMahon gave the final sanction to it, making the return official.

As per the confirmations from WWE.com, 16 superstars from WWE Raw and Smackdown will compete in King of the Ring 2019 tournament. The winner of this series will become the next King of the Ring that could hand him over a Main Even slot. Going by the history of this tourney, numerous Hall of Famers received their first big break after winning this one. For now, WWE also confirmed the 16 superstars who will compete in the 2019 edition,

The following Superstars have been confirmed to represent their respective brands in the tournament.

Raw

The Miz
Ricochet
Cedric Alexander
Samoa Joe
Drew McIntyre
Baron Corbin
Sami Zayn
Cesaro

SmackDown LIVE

Kevin Owens
Ali
Apollo Crews
Chad Gable
Elias

Buddy Murphy
Shelton Benjamin

The last time we have seen the King of the Ring tournament was in 2015 which was won by Bad News Barrett. It was one of those occasions where WWE could not utilize the superstars to his full potential as he left the company, thereafter.

If we consider this as an exception, then there are several examples of King of the Ring giving birth to legends. The likes of Harley Race, Bret “Hit Man” Hart, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, Edge, Booker T, Kurt Angle, Triple H, Brock Lesnar and more had the honor to become in-ring royalty. As of now, WWE has not declared any official matchup to begin the tournament. We are likely to get the update as next week’s episode of WWE Raw closes in.
