Virat Kohli May Be Removed As RCB Skipper Mid-way Through UAE Leg Of IPL 2021

Virat Kohli could be removed as the captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) mid-way through the ongoing UAE leg of the Indian Premier League (IPL), a former India cricketer has said. Virat Kohli earlier announced that he will step down as the captain of RCB after IPL 2021 concludes. Earlier this week, Virat Kohli had announced that he will relinquish his India T20I captaincy after the upcoming T20I World Cup to be staged in the UAE and Oman.

The reason for his axe as skipper seems to be quite evident after witnessing RCB’s meek surrender against the Kolkata Knight Riders in Abu Dhabi on Monday. RCB had made a humiliating return to IPL’s UAE leg when they were bundled out for just 92 by KKR in their first match of Phase-2. It was RCB’s sixth-lowest total in IPL, as they lost to the Eoin Morgan-led KKR by nine wickets.

Virat Kohli May Be Sacked As RCB Skipper Midway In IPL 2021

After opting to bat by winning the toss against KKR, Virat Kohli (5 runs off 4 balls) fell prey to pacer Prasidh Krishna in just the second over of the match. The 32-year-old batsman was trapped plumb in front and a bad review call didn’t help his case either. Even the body language of Virat Kohli was not the same, as it used to be, throughout the match. He was actually emanating shades of a player who has just decided to step down as the captain of RCB after the conclusion of IPL 2021.

His call to step down before the start of the IPL 2021 UAE leg further was criticized by many including former cricketer Gautam Gambhir, who had questioned the timing of his decision. He reckoned if Virat Kohli had to do something like that, he could have done it after the IPL was over. Some cricketers even went on suggesting that the team looked “unsettled” by the untimely announcement. One former India cricketer, on condition of anonymity said that it seems that Virat Kohli might be removed “mid-way”.

“Look at the way he was playing against Kolkata Knight Riders. Just clueless! It seems he is struggling big time right now. There are chances that he could be removed mid-way through the season. “

“It has happened earlier also with other teams — like with Dinesh Karthik in KKR and David Warner in Sunrisers Hyderabad, among others. They were either removed or they stepped down mid-way. So it can happen in RCB as well… I have this feeling after watching yesterday’s match. One more bad game and you can see a change in RCB captaincy right away,” said the former cricketer.

Virat Kohli was appointed the skipper of RCB ahead of the 2013 IPL season as a successor to outgoing captain Daniel Vettori. Since then, the side has unsatisfactory won 62 of the 132 matches under him, to go with 66 losses and 4 no-results, and an IPL trophy has forever eluded him. Appointed ahead of the 2013 season as a successor to spinner Daniel Vettori, Virat Kohli will end up with nine seasons at the helm for RCB.

AB de Villiers, Yuzvendra Chahal, And Devdutt Padikkal Are Likely Candidates To Replace Virat Kohli As RCB Skipper

Senior player AB de Villiers will probably be the apt candidate to replace Virat Kohli. He is greatly respected within the team. But there are also chances that he might not accept the offer. Yuzvendra Chahal’s name is also doing the rounds on the basis of seniority in the team. Yuzvendra Chahal has also been the leading wicket-taker for RCB in the IPL, clinching 125 wickets in 106 games that he has played for the franchise so far.

Youngster Devdutt Padikkal’s name has been coined as well, following the trend seen in recent times of appointing young captains such as Delhi’s Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, and Rajasthan’s Sanju Samson. The Karnataka batsman Devdutt Padikkal has been among the leading run-scorers for RCB in the last couple of seasons and is considered one of the favourites of Virat Kohli.

Mike Hesson Refused To Blame Virat Kohli’s Decision To Step Down As Skipper For RCB’s Poor Batting Show Against KKR

Mike Hesson said that his team RCB’s pathetic performance against KKR was not impacted by skipper Virat Kohli’s announcement to step down as captain after the ongoing season. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) Director of Cricket and head coach Mike Hesson refused to blame Virat Kohli’s announcement to step down as captain after the ongoing season for his team’s absurd performance against KKR in Abu Dhabi on Monday where they managed to score only 92 before being dismissed and KKR won by 9 wickets with 60 balls to spare.

Mike Hesson Admits RCB Got The Toss Wrong And RCB Should Have Been Able To Score 150

Virat Kohli had made it clear that he will continue playing for his franchise- the Royal Challengers Bangalore but won’t be captaining the franchise beyond the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 season. Mike Hesson opened up on the humiliating 9-wicket defeat against KKR, saying RCB had a poor outing with the bat but he was confident that his team would turn around things very quickly.

RCB won the toss and opted to bat in Virat Kohli’s landmark match in IPL-his 200th match for RCB, but the former finalists failed to step up, managing a paltry 92 in 19 overs. It was the 6th lowest total for RCB in the history of the IPL and their 7th sub-100 total in the tournament.

“I think it was actually to get any form of distraction out early. We talked about making that announcement as soon as possible really, all the players were aware of it. It has not impacted performance against KKR, we were not sharp with the bat, we lost wickets. But I am confident that this group will turn around pretty quickly,” Mike Hesson said during a virtual post-match press conference.

“The team combination was not the problem today. To be fair, we probably got the toss wrong. It was not a 93-run wicket, we should have been able to get to 150. Whether that would have been enough or not, it is debatable because the ball started to slide down, but we were not sharp enough with the bat,” Mike Hesson added.

Then, the opening duo of KKR- Shubman Gill and debutant Venkatesh Iyer played some breathtaking shots and made light work of the chase of 93, completing the formality with as many as 10 overs to spare.

Mike Hesson: AB de Villiers Is An Important Player But KS Bharat Deserves His Inclusion

In KKR’s opening match in the UAE leg, Varun Chakravarthy took the crucial wickets of Glenn Maxwell, Sachin Baby, and Wanindu Hasaranga. The mystery spinner showed ample proof of his credentials while registering figures of 3/13. Meanwhile, Andre Russell also registered three dismissals including that of AB de Villiers and Lockie Ferguson bagged two wickets.

“AB de Villiers did not have the gloves, we have to look after him. He is an important player for us, he is not one we can risk behind the stumps so that was unfortunate for Rajat as we needed a keeper-bat to do the role for us at number three. To be fair, KS Bharat has been outstanding in the camp and he deserves his inclusion,” he further said.

AB de Villiers had no answer to Andre Russell's fast yorker (Twitter)

“We were pretty clear in terms of Virat batting at the top, it is a lot harder to start against spin. We are very happy with Devdutt Padikkal and Virat opening the batting for us, high-quality players, left-right combination and KS Bharat can bat anywhere. We were forced for that change with AB de Villiers not keeping,” Hesson signed off.

After RCB skipper Virat Kohli won the toss and opted to bat, things did not exactly go as per plan as KKR had RCB at 52/4 in nine overs. Captain Virat Kohli was dismissed for 5 after getting out LBW to Prasidh Krishna, while Devdutt Padikkal gloved Lockie Ferguson to Dinesh Karthik, and debutant KS Bharat was out caught in the deep.

After getting KS Bharat out for 16, Andre Russell grew in confidence and bowled a spectacular – gem of delivery – to dismiss Mr. 360 degree AB de Villiers for a golden duck. This is AB de Villiers’s 6th golden duck in the IPL to go with 10 overall ducks.

IPL 2021: BCCI Asks 8 Teams To Ensure 2 Doses Of Covid-19 Vaccination For All Players

IPL 2021 was paused as Covid-19 cases hit the team camps despite the presence of bio-bubble. It was then decided that the remainder of the IPL will be scheduled in the UAE and kick start from September 19.

Keeping an eye on the COVID-19 situation, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has asked all eight franchises to ensure that every member travelling to UAE for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) is fully vaccinated before leaving the country. Last month, the BCCI announced the schedule for the remainder of the IPL 2021 which will be held in the UAE. A total of 31 matches will be played in the duration of 27 days. Eoin Morgan Of KKR Is Available While Pat Cummins Likely To Miss The UAE Leg

While the BCCI has confirmed that England players will be available for the resumption of the league in the UAE, Australia and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) pacer Pat Cummins is likely to miss the UAE leg. He was the most expensive buy in the 2020 IPL Auction after being bagged by KKR for a whopping 15.50 crores.

The pacer has said he hasn’t made an official call on not playing in the IPL 2021 but admitted it will be “tough” to go to UAE and play in the league. Pat Cummins picked 12 wickets in 14 games that included a 4-wicket haul in the 2020 IPL season. He bowled well in IPL 2021 picking 9 scalps in 7 games averaging 26.33 besides scoring 93 runs averaging 31.

“Unfortunately, at this stage, I probably won’t be going to the IPL 2021. I haven’t made an official call on it. But my partner is pregnant and our baby is due in the middle of the IPL 2021. At the moment, there is a travel restriction to get back to Australia, you got to do 2 weeks quarantine,” the Australian fast bowler said on his YouTube channel.

Eoin Morgan has confirmed he will return to the Kolkata Knight Riders for the rescheduled second half of the IPL in the UAE in September-October following the postponement of England’s limited-overs tour to Bangladesh. Jos Buttler, the Rajasthan Royals keeper, however, wasn’t too sure about making the trip to the UAE.

England was due to play three ODIs and three T20Is in Bangladesh in September-October but the ECB and the BCB released statements confirming that they had “mutually decided” to postpone the tour until March 2023.

Shubman Gill has amassed 311 runs in eight matches at a strike rate of 113.91. But he has mostly lost his wicket in powerplays. Virender Sehwag has advised the youngster to be more attacking in the first six overs to set a good base for Kolkata Knight Riders.

Nitish Rana comes to the field like a storm but doesn’t stay longer. Being at no.3, the left-hand batsman needs to set up a solid partnership to leave Kolkata Knight Riders in a good position. He has amassed only 184 runs in nine matches at the strike rate of 134.30. The franchise might expect him to set himself in the field and play a big knock for them.

4. Eoin Morgan (C):

His carnage included five fours and six towering over boundaries as he kept Eden Gardens crowd on their feet.

The 15th over of the tie turned out to be a game-changer for Royal Challengers Bangalore as Moeen Ali took 27 runs off Kuldeep Yadav’s over. With this powerful heave, Ali brought his half-century – his third IPL fifty.

Furthermore, he had no intention to stop as he hurled Kuldeep for another two sixes and a boundary before getting himself out in an attempt to play another big shot. It was Kuldeep Yadav’s costliest over in the T20s and the young spinner had no clue where to pitch the ball.

IPL 2019, Match 35 – Kolkata Knight Riders vs Royal Challengers Bangalore – Toss Report

Kolkata Knight Riders will have a chance to break their three-match losing streak when they host Royal Challengers Bangalore on Friday at the Eden Gardens. The Knight Riders, who were on the top of the points not very long ago, are languishing at the sixth spot after losing their last three games. What is even more worrying that two of the three losses have come at home which is considered the Knight Riders’ fortress. On the other hand, the Royal Challengers Bangalore are all but out of the competition with just 1 win in eight games. The Knight Riders have already defeated Royal Challengers once this season and will be desperate to do the double on the visitors.

Toss:

Kolkata Knight Riders have won the toss and decided to bowl first against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Eden Gardens.

Here is what the captains said:

Dinesh Karthik:

“We’ll bowl first. We’ve been bowling a lot on this wicket and we’ll stick to it. It is a batting friendly wicket and that is what we are looking to exploit that. We have had a break and . Russell is fit and we are playing with the same eleven.”

Virat Kohli:

“We aren’t too bad at setting a target. Last time when we played against KKR we set them a total of 200. This wicket is outstanding, proper cricketing wicket and we’ll look to make the most of it. Every game for us now is like a semi-final or a final, but the most important thing for us is to enjoy ourselves now. AB is not well and we don’t want to risk him. Klaassen comes in for him and Dale Steyn comes back for us after nine long years. His experience and his calm head are going to be very crucial and it could have helped in the earlier games as well.”

IPL 2019, Match 35: Kolkata Knight Riders vs Royal Challengers Bangalore – Match Prediction, Eden Gardens, Kolkata

In the match number 35, hosts Kolkata Knight Riders will take on rusty Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Friday (April 19). It’s going to be all-important game for both the teams while considering the competition on the IPL 2019 points table.

Concurrently, Knight Riders are placed sixth on the points table with four wins in eight games. They are lacking on the basis of net run-rate with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

Recently, Hyderabad-based franchise has won their game by six wickets, whereas, Knight Riders have lost their previous game against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) when Imran Tahir has bagged four crucial wickets.

Well, hosts had a scare when a bouncer struck Andre Russell on his neck during a practice session. However, the reports suggested that Russell is doing good.

Russell has accumulated 312 in seven innings. He is listed fifth on the list of must run-getters. On the other side, AB de Villiers is the top-scorer for RCB. He has amassed 307 in eight innings.

For RCB, Yuzvendra Chahal has snared 13 wickets in eight matches. Besides, Piyush Chawla has claimed six wickets in eight games.

Predicted Playing XI

Head-to-Head:

Overall: 24 matches; KKR – 15, RCB – 9

Eden Gardens: 9; KKR -6, RCB – 3

Pitch Report:

It’s has been fascinating for the batsman. The historic Eden Gardens 22-yard has a norm of helping out the seamers. However, the spinners had an arduous task at their hands.

Meanwhile, the batsman had an opportunity to make most on the surface. Interestingly, the fast outfield has added to the miseries of the fielding side.

Overall, considering the power-packed line-up, we could expect a run-fest in the much-anticipated contest.

Weather Forecast:

It’s going to hot and humid. However, the cool breeze will further ease out things for the players. Overall, the humidity will extend to 80 per cent during the second half of the game.

It’s going to be a massive challenge for the team bowling second with a wet ball.

The maximum temperature will hover around 34-degree centigrade with minimum expected to be around 25-degree Celcius.

Match Prediction:

Over the years, predicting winners have been a tricky question in the field of sports. On their day, the out of form team has stunned top-notch teams, and IPL is one such example in the cricketing folklore.

The match between resurgent RCB and compact KKR has a lot to offer to their respective fan bases. With hosts playing at home, they’ve certainly an advantage, but the comeback from RCB has served as a warning before the storm.

The team winning the toss will opt to bowl first without an iota of doubt. However, the projected score could be anything beyond 190 on a placid-looking surface despite having a tinge of green.

For us, KKR will emerge winners in a thriller of a contest to improve their rankings on the IPL points table.
