Liverpool beat Leicester 2-1 as Mane, Firmino redeem Alisson’s error

Leicester (England), Sep 2: Liverpool FC defeated hosts Leicester City 2-1, thanks to first-half goals from forwards Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane, despite a grave error by goalkeeper Alisson that handed Leicester their lone goal of the English Premier League (EPL) match on Saturday.

While trying to dribble around Leicester forward Kelechi Iheanacho inside the area, Alisson got the ball caught in his feet and lost possession. Iheanacho pounced on the mistake and passed the ball to Rachid Ghezzal, who sent it into the wide-open net in the 63rd minute, bringing the score to 1-2, reports Efe.

Liverpool has won all four games of the EPL season so far, thanks to coach Jurgen Klopp’s formidable attacking trio of Firmino, Mane and Mohamed Salah, who started Saturday’s match strong.

It was Salah who first threated Kasper Schmeichel’s goal early in the game, but his close-range shot went just wide.

Ten minutes into the match, Mane gave his side the lead with a left-footed shot inside the box, making the most of Andrew Robertson’s pass.

Leicester, who missed suspended striker Jamie Vardy, tried to get back in the game as forward Demarai Gray fired from close range, but Alisson made the save.

In the closing minutes of the first half, Salah tried his luck again with a long-range shot that failed to get past Schmeichel.

A header from Firmino doubled Liverpool’s lead in the last minute before stoppage time, seizing on James Milner’s cross from a corner kick.

Following Allison’s second-half mishap, Liverpool took control and slowed down the pace of the game to secure the win, with Klopp taking Salah out for the last 20 minutes.

Liverpool leads the EPL table with 12 points, while Leicester, who suffered their second defeat this season, provisionally hold the seventh spot with six points.

England’s Jamie Vardy Announces International Retirement

England forward, Jamie Vardy has announced his international retirement, as the player believes he will not be considered for selection by Gareth Southgate in the future.

Jamie Vardy made 26 appearances for England.

The 31-year old could make only 26 appearances for England. His career revived when he became the Premier League champion with Leicester City in 2015/16 season. Vardy made a huge contribution to his side’s Premier League triumph by netting on 24 different occasions.

Due to the consistent performance in the Premier League, Vardy got his opportunity right away with the England team. However, apart from some matches, he had to start the game on benches, as skipper Harry Kane was England’s prime striker.

Jamie Vardy also featured for England in Euro 2016 and the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. He scored seven goals along the way, but the striker feels its time to hang off the boots. The Leicester City forward told The Guardian,

“To be honest with you, this has been on my mind for a while. I’m not getting any younger, and you can see, to be fair to the gaffer [Gareth Southgate]. He wants to make it more youthful, which obviously had its benefits during the World Cup. We got to the semi-finals and finished fourth, which is equal to the furthest we have ever been on foreign soil. So I just said to Gareth that I think it’s probably best from now on, especially with the way he wants to go, to bring youngsters in who he thinks have got the ability and start nurturing them into international football.”

The forward has also said he had talked with the England manager and Southgate is okay with the decision.

“I mentioned it to him after the World Cup had finished, out in Russia. And hen I spoke to him on the phone a couple of weeks ago. He let it die down a bit so that I could have a bit more time to think. And then rang me up just to make sure I wasn’t just taking the mickey in Russia. But I hadn’t changed my mind. Gareth said that he felt I still had a lot to offer, and we’ve not shut the door completely. If the worst came to happen and everyone was injured, then obviously I wouldn’t say no.”

“I think we can be successful over the coming years and I believe my own game can develop under Pep’s management.”

Transfer Window 2017: 10 Transfers That Will Be Completed In The Upcoming Days

The Premier League has been a busy place since the end of the previous season as teams from all over the country are busy trying to get their deals done quickly this summer.

The likes of Manchester City and Everton have been the busiest clubs by far this summer while Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea are not too far behind.

There are a number of smaller clubs as well, who are looking to complete their deals quickly and now that the transfer window is officially open, a few of those moves have been regulated.

The Premier League has already seen a few players add to various squads but what are the top-10 moves so far of this window?

Here are 10 of the top transfers that are all but completed in the current transfer window:

//

Leicester City Set Record Price For Manchester United And Liverpool Target

Leicester City star will be a record breaker if he is sold this summer to some of the bigger clubs in the country.

The Foxes had a fairy tale season under Claudio Ranieri but it all came falling down as they finally had to get rid of their Italian mastermind, just to stay in the top flight for another season.

They did finish in a decent position come the end of the season under Craig Shakespeare but the manager will now have his work cut out this summer as he will have to make sure that he keeps that top talent at the club for another year.

A number of players have already been linked with an exit from the King Power this summer and the latest name constantly linked with an exit is English shot-stopper, Kasper Schmeichel.

One of the few Leicester City players who managed to keep up their form over the last two seasons, Schmeichel was linked with an exit last summer with Manchester United and Liverpool interested.

However, he decided to stay back at the Kin g Power for another year and did a decent job on goal for the Foxes in all competitions.

But like the last summer, he is yet again linked with an exit but Leicester City are determined to milk the most out of him if he is sold.

According to reports from the Sun, Leicester City have now placed a staggering £50m price tag on their 30-year old shot-stopper for any clubs who wants to sign him this summer.

The report claims that Leicester want to fend off interests from clubs like Manchester United and Liverpool, both of who are reportedly interested in the experienced goal keeper.

This fee, if met, if eclipse the £30m that Everton could end up paying their newbie Jordan Pickford, who signed for a club just days ago and the £34.9m Manchester City have paid for Ederson, also a few days ago.

So any club who wants Schmeichel will have to break the bank and the world record for a shot stopper, if they are to land the English star this summer. Do you think any club will be ready to meet his price?
