Team India players came up with a brilliant gesture after Rishabh Pant’s entertaining knock while playing for Leicestershire during the ongoing warm-up game.

Rishabh Pant, on Friday (June 24), played a fine knock during the warm-up fixture between India and Leicestershire. The wicketkeeper-batsman has been playing for Leicestershire in the game.

He is one of the four players who are playing for the hosts. The other three Indian players who are representing Leicestershire are Cheteshwar Pujara, Jasprit Bumrah and Shreyas Iyer. The decision to include the Indian players in the opposition team was taken to ensure that all the players get the chance to prepare for the upcoming Test against England.

Batting first, Team India scored 246 for 8 on day one of the game before declaring their innings. On day 2, Leicestershire were off to a poor start as Mohammed Shami took two quick wickets to leave them reeling at 22 for 2.

Leicestershire kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were reeling at 138 for 6 at one stage. Touching the 200-run mark was looking like a distant dream for them at that stage. But thanks to Rishabh Pant and some handy contribution from the lower order, Leicestershire managed to score 244.

Leicestershire had lost 3 wickets for just 44 runs when Rishabh Pant came out to bat. The left-handed batsman kept losing partners at regular intervals but stood firm at his end. He scored 76 runs to help the home side cross the 200-run mark and post a respectable total.

Pant’s knock came off just 87 balls and was studded with 14 fours and a six. And Team India players’ reaction after Pant’s dismissal made it very clear that not only the fans but they too were impressed by his knock.

Pant lost his wicket while trying to play a big shot off Ravindra Jadeja. As soon as the fielder Shreyas Iyer completed the catch, Jadeja himself hugged Pant for his knock before the other players walked up to him and congratulated him.

Rishabh Pant could not keep his emotions in control after Rohit Sharma’s dismissal in the ongoing 4-day warm-up game between Team India and Leicestershire at Grace Road.

The warm-up game began on Thursday (June 23) with Rohit Sharma deciding to bat first after winning the toss. Rohit and Shubman Gill opened the innings for the tourists. Both the batsmen were looking in good touch early on but failed to capitalise on their decent start.

Gill was the first to depart. The young opener had to depart after he edged a delivery from Will Davis behind the stumps where Rishabh Pant took an easy catch. Gill was out for 21 off 28 balls. He hit 4 boundaries during his short stay at the crease.

He and Rohit added 35 runs for the first wicket. 15 runs later, it was Rohit’s turn to return to the pavilion. The India skipper lost his wicket after his miscued a pull shot. Rohit departed after scoring 25 off 47 balls with the help of 3 boundaries.

Rishabh Pant celebrates Rohit Sharma’s dismissal:

An interesting incident took place right after Rohit was dismissed. The India skipper wanted to pull a short delivery from Roman Walker but could only miscue it to the leg side. And as soon as the fielder on the leg side took the catch, Rishabh Pant was seen celebrating Rohit’s dismissal.

Rishabh was patiently waiting for the fielder to complete the catch and as soon as it happened, he turned back and said something to the fielder standing at first slip before pumping his fist in the air. Pant’s gesture made it pretty clear that he was expecting such a dismissal and might have said the same to the Leicestershire player.

Pant along with three other India players – Cheteshwar Pujara, Prasidh Krishna and Jasprit Bumrah – are playing for Leicestershire in the warm-up game. The decision has been taken to give all the Indian players a chance to participate in the warm-up game and prepare for the upcoming Test.

Meanwhile, India have made a poor start in the warm-up game. At lunch on day one of the 4-day contest, the visitors were reeling at 90 for 5. Virat Kohli (9*) and Srikar Bharat (6*) were in the middle, battling it out for the tourists.

Rohit Sharma’s poor form has continued in the ongoing warm-up game against Leicestershire too as the India skipper failed to score big. The right-handed batsman entered the game on the back of a disastrous display in this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL).

Before the IPL, he failed to deliver in the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka too. While India won both the Tests, Rohit failed to score big in his first series as a Test captain. In three innings, he registered scores of 29, 15 and 46.

It was followed by a disappointing campaign in the IPL. In 14 IPL games this year, the Mumbai Indians skipper managed just 268 runs at an average of 19.14 and a strike rate of 120.17.

It is also the first time that he failed to score a single half-century in an IPL season. His performance had an impact on the team’s fortunes as well. Mumbai suffered eight successive losses at the start of the season, and while they won four of their last six games, it was not enough to avoid a last place finish.

Following the IPL, he was given a much-needed break as he missed the home T20I series against South Africa. Fresh after the break, Rohit would have loved to register a big score before taking on England in the rescheduled Test. The batting superstar, however, failed to score big and was out for just 25.

Rohit’s knock came off 47 balls and was studded with 3 fours. Rohit once again lost his wicket while trying to play the pull shot. He tried to pull a shorter delivery from Roman Walker but could only miscue it to the leg side.

Four Team India players will be representing Leicestershire in the upcoming warm-up fixture ahead of the rescheduled Test against England. The warm-up game will be a 4-day fixture and will start on Thursday (June 23).

The upcoming game against Leicestershire will be India’s only warm-up game before they lock horns against England. The Test is scheduled to be played from July 1 in Birmingham. The rescheduled game is a part of last year’s five-match series that had to be postponed after the fourth Test due to a Covid outbreak in the Indian camp.

Team India are leading the series 2-1 and a draw will be more than enough for them to seal the series. The visitors have not won a Test series in England since the memorable 1-0 win in 2007.

Four India players to play for Leicestershire:

Leicestershire, on Wednesday, confirmed that as many as 4 India players will be playing for the host club in the warm-up game. The four players are – Cheteshwar Pujara, Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna.

They will be playing under the captaincy of opening batsman Sam Evans. The reason behind the decision is to give all the Indian players a chance to participate in the warm-up game and prepare for the Test.

“LCCC, BCCI and the ECB have all agreed to allow the four players from the visiting camp to be part of the Running Foxes side, in order to allow all members of the travelling party to participate in the fixture (subject to fitness),” Leicestershire wrote.

The match will be played with 13 players per side to provide further flexibility and help manage bowling workloads.

Saba Karim: 5th Test Between England And India Will Be A Battle Between Two Mindsets

While previewing the game, Saba Karim opined that the match could define the future course of Test cricket.

He observed: “I feel this match will decide how you should play Test cricket going forward. It is not only going to be a Test match between India and England but it is going to be a battle between two mindsets.”

The former Indian wicketkeeper pointed out that England under new coach Brendon McCullum has shown that they will play an ultra-aggressive brand of cricket.

Saba Karim explained: “If you see the England team on one side, they have made it clear that they are not going to take a step back. Brendon McCullum has said it loudly that if there is danger in front of you, then you should take it head-on, you don’t have to run away from it.”

The England team under new skipper Ben Stokes chased down fourth-innings targets of more than 275 runs in the first two Tests of the ongoing series against New Zealand. They brought a buccaneering approach to the fore in the second Test, chasing down a 299-run target in just 50 overs.

Saba Karim highlighted that Rohit Sharma’s side will have a slightly different approach.

He elaborated: “On the other hand, the Indian team, if we see the combination of Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid, it seems they will go to the ground with a balanced approach, they will be watchful and do a controlled attack.”

The cricketer-turned-analyst reiterated the significant impact the game could have on Test cricket going forward.

Saba Karim said: “As I said before, this will decide whether you should always play attractive cricket so that the spectators who come to watch the match are entertained, the way England have done and shown, or the Indian team who entertain but their approach to providing entertainment is different.”

Rohit Sharma has captained Team India in just two Tests thus far. The Indian team emerged victorious in both those matches against Sri Lanka at home and the upcoming game against England will be the first big test for the Mumbaikar as skipper in the longest format of the game.

Both India and England will have new captains in the last Test match of the series as Virat Kohli and Joe Root have been replaced by Rohit Sharma and Ben Stokes. India has a 2-1 lead in the Test series. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has stated that the Indian Test team will be training in Leicestershire for one week. India will be playing a 4-day practice match against Leicestershire from June 24 to 27 ahead of the first Test.

The 51-year-old Justin Langer was brought in as head coach during a tough period in Australian cricket. It had been rocked by the Sandpaper Gate – ball tampering scandal 2008 in Cape Town and needed to be rebuilt. Although the initial days were expectedly tough, Justin Langer turned it around after a while.

The highlights of his stint as the head coach are the retention of the Ashes in England in 2019, the maiden T20I World Cup victory in 2021, and the 4-0 Ashes 2021/22 hammering dished out to the Englishmen last month. Justin Langer has also left Australia at the top of the perch in the Test rankings.

“Justin was offered a short-term extension to his current contract, which sadly he has opted not to accept,” stated an official Cricket Australia release.

The contract extension offered to Justin Langer was the result of a thorough review process that evaluated many factors including future requirements of the team and the upcoming extensive schedule of fixtures.

The extension was approved by the CA Board and was put to Justin Langer last night. It included the opportunity to defend the T20I World Cup title in Australia at the end of this year. But, Justin Langer informed CA this morning he was not accepting the offer and would resign with immediate effect.

After retiring as a player, Andrew McDonald became a cricket coach. He has coached Leicestershire County Cricket Club, Victoria and the Melbourne Renegades. He won the Sheffield Shield in his first year as senior coach of Victoria. He was also bowling coach for Royal Challengers Bangalore and head coach of Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League.

“Andrew McDonald will step up into the role of interim head coach of our men’s national team, with official duties beginning with Australia’s upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka,” Cricket Australia tweeted.

James Pattinson, the former Australia pacer is set for a third stint with Nottinghamshire after signing an all-format deal covering the 2022 season.

James Pattinson previously spent parts of the 2017 and 2019 seasons with the county, taking 40 First-Class wickets at 15.52. James Pattinson is a British passport holder but has been registered as an overseas player.

James Pattinson Set For The 3rd Stint With Nottinghamshire

The right-arm fast bowler announced his retirement from international cricket in October 2021, having played 21 Tests and 19 white-ball internationals (15 ODIs, 4 T20Is) for his country. His 81 Test wickets at 26.33 apiece included five in a thrilling Ashes encounter at Trent Bridge in 2013.

James Pattinson’s elder brother Darren Pattinson, who made a one-off Test appearance for England in 2008, won the County Championship title with Nottinghamshire in 2010.

“Trent Bridge felt like home from the moment I first stepped through the gates. To arrive here and be met by a group of guys that made me so welcome from minute dot was pretty special, and I’m looking forward to getting back amongst them again,” said Pattinson in a statement.

He had been suffering from a knee injury after a number of issues with other injuries that helped to limit his Test appearances.

He claimed 81 Test wickets, 16 ODI scalps, and 3 T20I scalps in his career after making his Test debut in December 2011 alongside Mitchell Starc and David Warner against New Zealand in Brisbane. His last Test was against New Zealand in Sydney in January 2020, while he last played an ODI back in September 2015 against England at Leeds.

His last T20I was way back in 2012. James Pattinson also eventually made his IPL debut in the 2020 season for Mumbai Indians and became a regular member. He has picked up 11 scalps in 10 IPL games averaging 29.09.

It was the short-pitched delivery outside the off-stump which Cosgrove tried to face after coming out from the crease. In the last moment, the left-handed batsman used his helmet to face that ball. After that ball struck on his helmet, it reached to the first slip fielder who easily grabbed that.

It was a unique experience for cricket fans. As the short-pitch delivery is currently hitting hard the batsmen, this incident has become a more talking point. It didn’t hurt Cosgrove as he saved his team in that game.

While Durham scored 544/9 (decl.) in the first innings, Leicestershire were all out on 236 runs in their first innings. In the following on innings, Leicestershire were batting on 363/8 till the end of that game. While Cosgrove scored 21 runs in the first innings, he scored 107 not out in the second innings.

Mark Cosgrove played three ODIs for Australia in 2006. He scored 112 ODI runs (average 37.33), including his best knock of 74 runs on his international debut.
