Dinesh Karthik Becomes 4th Indian To Play 300 T20 Matches

On Monday (26th October) evening, the 35-year-old wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik became the fourth Indian cricketer to appear in 300 T20 matches.

During the 46th match of the IPL 2020, Dinesh Karthik reached this personal milestone in T20 career. It was the match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) at Sharjah Cricket Stadium (Sharjah), where Karthik was representing for KKR. Just a few days ago, Karthik stepped down from the captaincy role of this team.

Rohit Sharma, MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina are the other Indian cricketers who have already appeared in 300 T20 matches. While Rohit is India’s most-capped T20 player (337 matches), Dhoni (329 matches) and Raina (319 matches) are in the next positions and Karthik just joined in this list.

On the other hand, Indian national cricket team captain Virat Kohli is also very close to appearing in the list of 300 T20 matches among the Indians. Kohli has already appeared in 292 T20 matches as he is just eight T20 matches away to complete his 300 T20 matches. He can be the next Indian to play 300 T20 matches.

MS Dhoni Becomes 1st Player To Appear In 200 IPL Matches

On Monday (19th October) evening, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni created another history in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as he became the first cricketer to appear in 200 IPL matches.

It is the 37th match of the IPL 2020, where Chennai Super Kings are playing against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium (Abu Dhabi).

It is the 200th IPL match for MS Dhoni. While he is already holding the record of the most-capped cricketer in IPL history, he now becomes the first player to appear in 200 IPL matches. After winning the toss in this match, CSK skipper Dhoni decided to bat first.

Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma is just behind of MS Dhoni in the list of the most IPL matches. Rohit has already played 197 matches in his IPL career.

The 31-year-old Indian captain Virat Kohli created another history on Thursday (15th October) evening as he became the first cricketer to appear in 200 T20 matches for a team. He creates this history after making his 200th T20 appearance for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

It is the 31st match of the IPL 2020 where Royal Challengers Bangalore are facing Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) at Sharjah Cricket Stadium (Sharjah). It is the 204th T20 match for RCB while their long-standing captain Virat Kohli is playing his 200th T20 match for this team. During this match, Kohli becomes the first cricketer in T20 cricket history to play 200 matches for a team. After winning the toss in this historic match, RCB captain Kohli decided to bat first.

Playing his 194th IPL match on Tuesday (6th October) evening, Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Rohit Sharma became the second most capped player in Indian Premier League (IPL) history.

In the 20th match of the IPL 2020, Mumbai Indians are playing against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium (Abu Dhabi). It is the 194th match for the 33-year-old Rohit Sharma in his IPL career.

During this match, Rohit surpassed Suresh Raina, who has played 193 IPL matches, and became the second most capped player in IPL history. Though Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star Raina initially travelled in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) along with his IPL franchise team, he later withdrew his name from the entire IPL 2020 citing his personal issue.

The 39-year-old Dhoni has already played 195 IPL matches and Rohit is now only one match behind from Dhoni.

Sunil Narine Becomes Most Capped Player For KKR

On Saturday (3rd October) evening, Caribbean cricketer Sunil Narine created history for his Indian Premier League (IPL) team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as he became the most capped player for this team in T20 cricket.

Currently, Dinesh Karthik-led KKR are playing against Shreyas Iyer-led Delhi Capitals (DC) in the 16th match of the IPL 2020 at Sharjah Cricket Stadium (Sharjah). KKR captain decided to bowl first after winning the toss.

It is Sunil Narine’s 123rd T20 match for KKR. Surpassing the record of the former KKR players Gautam Gambhir and Yusuf Pathan, who played 122 T20 matches each for this team, Narine created a new history and became the most capped player for KKR in T20 cricket.

Narine made his debut for Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2012, which was also his IPL debut. Since then, he has played every IPL season for KKR. Undoubtedly, Narine is the most wicket-taker for KKR, both in T20 and IPL, as he is the only KKR bowler to pick up 100 wickets.

Before this match, Narine has taken 142 wickets in 122 T20 matches for KKR. Out of those, the off-spinner has picked up 124 wickets in 114 IPL matches for this team. MS Dhoni has created history on Friday (2nd October) evening as he becomes the most-capped player in the Indian Premier League (IPL) history after making his 194th IPL appearances.

In the 14th match of the IPL 2020, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are playing against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Dubai International Cricket Stadium (Dubai). It is 194th IPL match for the 39-year-old MS Dhoni. Surpassing Suresh Raina‘s record of 193 IPL matches, Dhoni has now become the most-capped player in IPL history.

Apart from the record of most matches in IPL history, this match is also significant for MS Dhoni for two more appearances records in Chennai Super Kings history. These stats are:

  • It is Dhoni’s 164th IPL appearance for CSK. Equalling the record of Suresh Raina’s 164 IPL matches for CSK, Dhoni becomes the joint most-capped player for CSK in IPL history.
  • It is also Dhoni’s 188th T20 appearance for CSK. Equalling the record of Suresh Raina’s 188 T20 matches for CSK, Dhoni becomes the joint most-capped player for CSK in T20 cricket.

MS Dhoni is already holding the record of most matches as captain in IPL history while it is his 178th IPL match as a captain. He is the only captain in IPL history to appear as captain in 150+ matches. While he has led the CSK team in all his 164 IPL matches, he also led now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) in 14 IPL matches during IPL 2016.

Also, Dhoni is holding the record of most matches as captain in T20 cricket history. As a T20 captain, Dhoni is currently playing his 274th match, while there is no other T20 captain to appear in at least 250 matches. Caribbean cricketer Daren Sammy is currently in the second position in this list as he has appeared in 208 T20 matches as a captain.

At present, Dhoni is playing his 321st T20 match. Only Rohit Sharma is ahead of him in this list as the Indian cricketer has played 332 T20 matches.
