IPL 2020: Top 4 teams – best records before this edition

While Mumbai Indians are holding the record of winning most of the IPL trophies (4 times), they have the good chance to stretch this record. Moreover, after Chennai Super Kings (2010 and 2011), they can be the only other team to defend the IPL title.

IPL 2020: Latest Points Table

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is hosting the entire 13th edition of the Indian Premier League or IPL 2020. This tournament is running from 19th September to 10th November 2020.

The IPL 2020 was originally scheduled to run in India between 29th March and 24th May 2020. But due to the coronavirus outbreak, that tournament was postponed in middle of the March.

Despite many struggles during this pandemic, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have managed to reschedule the IPL 2020 after deciding to organize the entire tournament in the UAE. This tournament will run in three different venues – Dubai International Cricket Stadium (Dubai), Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium (Abu Dhabi), and Sharjah Cricket Stadium (Sharjah). The tournament will run in a normal structure, which we have experienced in recent times.

All the eight existing teams are participating in the IPL 2020. These participating teams are as follows along with their best IPL records:

Mumbai Indians (MI) – the defending champions of IPL 2020 and four-time IPL winners (2013, 2015, 2017, and 2019)

The League stage will have a total of 56 matches which will run between 19th September and 3rd November 2020. The league stage started with the match between IPL 2019 finalists MI vs CSK at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium (Abu Dhabi) and it will end with the match SRH vs MI at Sharjah Cricket Stadium (Sharjah).

IPL 2020: Aakash Chopra Predicts Final Standing In The Points Table

Just before the beginning of the IPL 2020, former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra revealed his prediction on the final points table standing in this tournament.

IPL 2020 will begin in less than 24 hours. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will host the entire IPL 2020 that will run between 19th September and 10th November 2020. On Saturday (19th September) evening, the IPL 13 will begin with the match between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium (Abu Dhabi).

Ahead of the IPL 2020, Aakash Chopra, who played IPL in 2008 for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), predicted the final points table. While he feels that it is a difficult question at this moment, he chose Delhi Capitals (DC) as the best team in the final points table in this tournament.

His next two teams in this list are the last year’s finalists – the last year’s runners-up Chennai Super Kings and the defending champions Mumbai Indians respectively. According to him, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) can be no.4-positioned side.

In his YouTube channel, Chopra said, “It is a tough question. I will go with Delhi Capitals at No.1, Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians at No.2 and No.3 and RCB at No.4.”

His next four teams, who can miss out the playoffs of the IPL 2020, are KKR, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) respectively.

Chopra continued, “At No.5 I will go with KKR, Sunrisers Hyderabad at No.6, Kings XI Punjab at No.7 and Rajasthan Royals at No.8.”

I feel there is a scope of change between No.2 and No.3: Aakash Chopra

Chopra also feels that the CSK and MI positions can be exchanged. Meanwhile, he also feels that KKR can beat RCB in the contest of advancing the playoffs of the tournament.

He further added, “This is my prediction although I feel there is a scope of change between No.2 and No.3, CSK could be third and Mumbai second. And KKR can be at No.4 and RCB could go to No.5.”

Aakash Chopra also talked about the most potent bowling line-ups in the IPL 2020. He believes that only two teams have potent bowling line-ups in the IPL 13. In this list, while his first choice is Chennai Super Kings, his second choice is Delhi Capitals.

Warriors and Knight Riders have already met once in this season during the opening game of this tournament, where Knight Riders beat the CPL 2019 runners-up by four wickets.

There is no doubt about the present form of Knight Riders as they are the favourite for this match too. Meanwhile, the batting is the major concern for the Warriors and strong batting performance can help them to bring positive result in the upcoming match.

Shimron Hetmyer has suddenly lost his impressive touch, which we experienced during their first two matches in the ongoing season. Ross Taylor has failed to capitalise his starts while Nicholas Pooran has impressed with his batting in only one game in this season.

The veteran Proteas leg-spinner Imran Tahir, young Caribbean all-rounder Keemo Paul and Afghanistan pacer Naveen-ul-Haq are performing consistently with the ball in hand.

After suffering a defeat in their season opener, St Lucia Zouks won three consecutive matches before Trinidad Knight Riders ended that streak on Wednesday afternoon. Meanwhile, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots suffered three straight defeats before winning their last match, which was against the defending champions Barbados Tridents. Moreover, in their first meeting in this season, Zouks beat Patriots by 10 runs.

While Zouks are one of the in-form sides in this season, Patriots batsmen mostly are struggling. So, Zouks are the favourite in this upcoming match.

CPL 2020, Match 13: St Lucia Zouks vs Trinbago Knight Riders (Match Report) – Bravo Brothers Help Knight Riders To Continue Their Unbeaten Run, Updated Points Table

Trinbago Knight Riders have strengthened their top position in the CPL 2020 points table after beating St Lucia Zouks by six wickets (DLS method) during the 13th game of the tournament at Queen’s Park Oval (Port of Spain). It was Knight Riders’ fourth successive victory in this tournament as they are the only team in this CPL season who hasn’t tasted any defeat yet.

After winning the toss, Trinbago Knight Riders decided to field first. The 48-year-old Indian cricketer Pravin Tambe became the first Indian to appear in a CPL match as the Knight Riders’ leg-spinner replaced Sunil Narine to make his CPL debut. Making his CPL debut at the age of 48 years and 323 days, Tambe also became the oldest cricketer in CPL history.

Before the rain interruption, St Lucia Zouks managed to score 111/6 in 17.1 overs. The match restarted almost two hours later where Knight Riders got the revised target of 72 runs in 9 overs. Knight Riders chased down that target in eight overs after losing four wickets (72/4).

Match Report

Trinbago Knight Riders innings: Darren Bravo and Tim Seifert helped the team to chase down the target

After the restart, Mohammad Nabi provided a very good start with a wicket of the opener Lendl Simmons (0) on the second ball of that innings while Trinbago Knight Riders hadn’t score any run yet. However, he conceded a four and sixer in the final two deliveries of that over.

In the third over of that innings, Kesrick Williams dismissed Colin Munro (17) and another opener Tion Webster (5). In the next over, captain Kieron Pollard (4) was caught behind and Chemar Holder took his only wicket in the game.

Struggling on 34/4, Darren Bravo and wicket-keeper batsman Tim Seifert built up the strong partnership that led them to the victory. They put the 41 runs partnership for the unbroken fifth-wicket where Darren Bravo remained not out on 23 runs off 13 balls (2 sixes) and Seifert scored 15 not out off 16 balls (only four).

St Lucia Zouks hadn’t a good start in the first innings as the right-arm pacer Ali Khan provided the early breakthrough by dismissing the opener Andre Fletcher (10) in the third over of the innings.

Playing his 459th T20 match, Dwayne Bravo finally completed his 500th T20 wicket after dismissing another Zouks opener Rahkeem Cornwall (18) on his fourth ball of the match and became the first bowler to reach the milestone of 500 T20 wickets. In his next over, Bravo bowled Roston Chase for just 7 runs. Bravo finished that innings with the bowling figures of 3-0-7-2 and he ultimately won the Player of the Match award.

Pravin Tambe got the ball in hand for the first time in his CPL career during the 11th over of that innings. Najibullah Zadran welcomed him with a sixer, but after conceding 15 runs in that over, Tambe opened his wicket column in CPL career by dismissing Zadran (21 runs) on the final ball of that over. It was his only over in that match as he finished with the bowling figures of 1-0-15-1.

Mohammad Nabi continued his good form as he scored the crucial 30 not out off 22 balls (2 fours and only six) before the rain forced to stop that game.
