Mohamed Salah Wants To Join Real Madrid?

The Egyptian international forward of Liverpool is going back to face Real Madrid for the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final along with his squad on the 14th of this month. This is a much-awaited return.

The previous meeting between the two sides was scheduled in 2018 and that match was the final of the UEFA Champions League football. The match is remembered for two big incidents mainly, the infamous injury of Mohamed Salah and two huge mistakes from the Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius.

Mohamed Salah Wants To Join Real Madrid?

Despite all the bad history between Real Madrid and Salah, the Egyptians talked really nice of the Spanish giants when asked. Recently he spoke to Spanish publication Marca where he defended Real Madrid for being out of form for quite a while.

He said, “They’ve [Real] lost some great players, like Cristiano Ronaldo – the best in the club’s history, someone that scored so many goals.”

The twenty-year-old was also asked about his feelings on facing Sergio Ramon ‘again.’ He replied, “That game is in the past, so I don’t think about it. I’m thinking about the team. Everyone is focused on their team and everyone wants to win… that’s it.”

Mohamed Salah

When he was asked if this Real Madrid was weaker than the previous one he faced he said, “They’ve lost some great players, like Cristiano Ronaldo – the best in the club’s history, someone that scored so many goals. At the same time, they’ve signed [Eden] Hazard. Eden’s been unlucky, he’s been injured… But it’s a different team.”

And the most vital question that every Real Madrid wanted to ask if he would ever consider joining the Spanish League, he replied, “I hope to be able to play for many more years. Why not? No one knows what’s going to happen in the future, so… maybe one day, yes.”

Mohamed Salah

So, it is very much possible for the Egyptians to join Real Madrid any time. Since the Spanish League champions are in crisis for a regular goal-scoring forward, Salah would have been a nice choice to go for. Karim Benzema is doing pretty well for them just like every other season but he is already 33 and they need a replacement as soon as possible.

It is also rumoured that Real Madrid is in pursuit of any of the two most talked-about young forwards in the world right now; Kylian Mbappe or Erling Haaland. If they get either one of them they will be very happy. Salah being an addition to either one of the two would be the best thing for Zinedine Zidan’s side at this moment.

Paul Scholes Reveals The Two Teams That Prevented Manchester United From Winning The UEFA Champions League Titles

Former Manchester United legend, Paul Scholes has revealed the two best teams he has ever played against in his illustrious career with the English giants. Paul Scholes made his full debut for Manchester United in the 1994–95 season. He went on to make 718 appearances for United, the third-highest number of appearances by any player for the club.

Scholes announced his retirement from playing in May 2011 and was appointed as a coach at Manchester United. However, he returned to playing in January 2012 and went on to play one more season for the club before retiring again in May 2013.  With United, Scholes won 25 trophies including 11 Premier League titles (more than any other English player) and two UEFA Champions League titles.

However, there were a couple of teams that Scholes believes, prevented Manchester United from winning more Champions League titles.

Paul Scholes Reveals The Two Teams That Prevented Manchester United From Winning More Champions League Titles

Paul Scholes has lamented the “ridiculous” Real Madrid and Barcelona teams that thwarted Manchester United in the Champions League, insisting that ‘in any other era we might have won five or six European Cups’.

“We were quite unlucky really. In any other era we might have won four, five, or six European Cups,” the Red Devils legend told the A Goal In One Podcast. “But the teams that were about – you look at Pep Guardiola’s FC Barcelona team. Jesus, how good were they?!” Paul Scholes further said

“You could go right through the team. In midfield, you had Andres Iniesta, Xavi, Sergio Busquets and Lionel Messi. Henry on the left. Centre halves of Gerard Pique and Carlos Puyol. Just unreal. They’re without doubt the best team I’ve played against. They’re one of the best teams that has ever been,” Scholes added.

We Got Absolutely Battered At The Bernebeau: Paul Scholes

“If I go a bit further back I think of the Real Madrid side that we played against,” said the 45-year-old. “We got absolutely battered in the Bernabeu one year. 3-1 it was in the first game but what a team that was. It’s not far away from that Barcelona team,” Scholes added.

“They had the Brazilian Ronaldo, Zinedine Zidane, Luis Figo, Redondo was unreal, Raul, Roberto Carlos, Hierro, Iker Casillas in goal, that was a team that was just ridiculous. We came up against some ridiculous teams. We did alright against them but Barcelona just had that edge over that great Real Madrid team,” Paul Scholes further said.

Marcelo Opens Up The Return Of La Liga 2020

“It’s been different to what we’re used to. We have to take the positives from it and now we’re used to the routine; it’s not like it used to be but everything’s good. We’re all healthy, the training sessions have been fantastic in recovering our rhythm. Having not touched a ball for so long, when you go back out on the pitch you’ve lost your touch a bit, but now we just can’t wait to start playing games,” Marcelo added.

Bundesliga Set The Benchmark For The Return

It is notable that Bundesliga became the first league across Europe’s top five leagues to resume their campaign after the onslaught of the coronavirus pandemic for two months. Bundesliga resumed with using draconian hygiene guidelines, regular testing of players and insisting on games in near-empty stadiums. Hugging, embracing and handshakes were also banned.

Gareth Bale Feels ‘Worse’ When Real Madrid Fans Whistle And Jeer At Him

One of the most expensive transfers in football history, Gareth Bale, has opened up on his side of the story after having been whistled and jeered by the fans of his own club, Real Madrid. Gareth Bale joined Real Madrid from Tottenham in 2013 for a then-world record transfer fee of €100.8 million, eclipsing the previous record fee of £80 million (€94 million) the club paid for Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009.

Although Bale’s contribution towards the club hasn’t been below standards, his journey at Real Madrid has constantly been marred with regular injuries. To worsen the matters, ever since Zinedine Zidane took over as the Real Madrid manager, Gareth Bale hasn’t been able to find a concrete spot for himself in the team.

Now, Bale has opened up on the fans booing and whistling at him during his rough patch and not having faith in his potential.

“We get a lot of pressure every game. If you don’t play well, there’s scrutiny,” Bale said on US golf podcast The Erik Anders Lang Show.

“I’ve had 80,000 people in a stadium whistle at me because I haven’t played well. I’ve had it a few times! It’s not nice and it doesn’t do your confidence any good either,” he added.

I Expect The Fans To Support Me In My Rough Patches: Gareth Bale

Since going to Spain, Bale has won a LaLiga title, one Copa del Rey and four Champions League titles. Despite such a strong resume, Bale’s name doesn’t get spoken in the same breath as that of former prolific forwards Cristiano Ronaldo, Raul and others.

“You would expect that if you’re not having a good time on the pitch, your fans would get behind you and try to help you do better because it’ll make them happy, But it seems that they do the opposite. They whistle you, which consequentially makes you feel worse, you lose your confidence, you play worse and then that makes them even more upset,” Bale said.

“In football, you might play amazing, not score for five games, and then everyone says you’re having a terrible time. You think to yourself that you’re playing well, you just haven’t scored or assisted. But people just like goals, assists and ‘wow’ things. Sometimes that doesn’t always happen,” he added.

The formidable duo joined Real Madrid in a year’s difference and have become an integral part of the Los Blancos squad. Both, Hazard and Courtois also have the backing of their manager, Zinedine Zidane.

To much extent, it was a similar case for both of them while their stints at Chelsea. During their stay with the Blues, Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois knew that they were on board to join Real Madrid sooner than later. However, they weren’t publicly allowed to speak about their transfer rumours and hence kept a secret code for the Los Blancos.

Quique Setien Hits Back At Lionel Messi For His Champions League Comment On FC Barcelona

Things aren’t really good at FC Barcelona and now behind the scenes discourse has come to limelight as the head coach, Quique Setien has hit back on Lionel Messi’s comments about the club not winning the UEFA Champions League.

Notably, Lionel Messi, the greatest FC Barcelona player of all-time and one of the greatest footballers of all time, had openly said that the club can not win the UEFA Champions League with the standard of football that they are currently playing. Although FC Barcelona is considered to be one of the best teams across Europe, they have been facing a drought as far as Champions League title is concerned.

Lionel Messi has been pretty vocal of his desire of lifting the Champions League trophy and also with his dissent from the club for not being able to do so.

Quique Setien Hits Back At Lionel Messi For His Champions League Comments

“Messi’s words I think have created a big debate,” Setien told beIN Sports.

“We are convinced that we can win the Champions League. We have to improve some things, but without a doubt, we are convinced that the team has the potential to win the Champions League. We can win it. We are convinced we can win the Champions League, of course, we can,” Quique Setien added.

There Has Been A Dearth Of Champions League Titles At FC Barcelona

The Catalans won the Champions League twice under Pep Guardiola in 2009 and 2011, but have only lifted the trophy once more since then. Their last Champions League victory came in the year 2015 when they beat Juventus by 3-1 in the final.

What irks Lionel Messi more is the fact that arch-rivals, Real Madrid, on the other hand, have won it four out of the last six seasons, including three successive years. Indeed, the Madrid club has won the European Cup a staggering 13 times, six times more than second-placed AC Milan, and eight times more than Barca.

On This Day In 2014: Real Madrid Scripted History To Win Their 10th Champions League Title- La Decima

Real Madrid, a club which has had an illustrious history, scripted another chapter in their fairytale when they lifted their 10th UEFA Champions League title on May 24, 2014. The final took place in Lisbon, the home of Cristiano Ronaldo. And Real Madrid made sure that they leave Cristiano’s home with the most prestigious trophy in club football.

The 2014 UEFA Champions League final was a major milestone in world football. The game gave away certain tags and announced Real Madrid’s era of domination in European football. Mr. 92:48, the current captain of the Los Blancos, Sergio Ramos earned himself a tag of being the late finisher for the Men in Whites through this game.

Today, we take a look at one of the most interesting finals in the history of the UEFA Champions League, the 2014 game between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.

Real Madrid Received An Early Shocker Of A Goal

The final in Lisbon was set to be an all-Spanish final. To add the cherry on the cake, it was the Madrid derby that was set to entertain the Portugal crowd and leave their hearts on the pitch in Lisbon. The two Spanish rivals, Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid, under the leadership of Diego Simeone and Carlo Ancelotti, walked into the Estádio da Luz stadium amid the 65000 spectators ready to witness 22 men spill their blood and flesh onto the pitch.

Real Madrid

The only aspect that separated the two sides, was the illustrious history mentioned earlier. Real Madrid had already won nine Champions League titles coming into the final. Atletico Madrid, on the other hand, were chasing their first-ever title. Although Real had a history with them, Atletico was fuelled with passion.

The same passion was visible enough as the referee blew the first whistle on an auspicious night. Atletico fought and fought well with the Los Blancos and exerted tremendous pressure on set pieces and counter-attacks. The pressure finally paid off in the 36th minute as Diego Godin lobbed the ball over Iker Casillas, the most veteran hero of the Los Blancos squad.

Diego Godin

This just goes on to show the amount of pressure involved in such high-profile games. However, the lads on the pitch were men, not boys. And for men, defeat isn’t a possibility until they shed their last ounce of blood in a battle. Same was with Real Madrid. After all, coming into the final, they had avenged a famous defeat against Bayern Munich and depicted that they were ready to become the champions of Europe.

Real Madrid Kept Attacking And Fortune Favoured Them Just When Everyone Thought It Wasn’t Meant To

Going into the second half, Real Madrid knew that from hereon, they have nothing to lose. This is when experience comes into play. Manager Carlo Ancelotti made a couple of attacking substitutions on the half-time mark as Fabio Contreao was replaced with Marcelo on the left-back position and Sami Khedira made way for Isco, the attacking midfielder. Real kept pushing men forward in search of an equalizer but Atletico’s defence was way too resilient.

Sergio Ramos
Sergio Ramos Credits: Goal.com

It was in the 3rd minute of the stoppage time, that witnessed Sergio Ramos pen down his name in the history books of the Spanish giants. The Los Blancos earned a corner and Luka Modric delivered an inch-perfect ball only to see Sergio Ramos, the leader, rise above everybody to slaught the ball past Thibaut Courtois and bring his team back into the game.

There are certain moments in a match that completely change the tide of the game. In the 2014 final, it was at 92:48 that Atletico Madrid knew that they have slipped the game from their hands and it was visible not only among players but also on Diego Simeone, a manager who seldom seems out of place in any game.

Cristiano Ronaldo Sealed Off The Victory In His Country For His Team

As Ramos rose to the occasion, the entire stadium went into a frenzy. Real Madrid smelled victory at the very point and knew that their 12-year long wait for the UEFA Champions League title was soon going to come to a close. The match headed into extra-time as per the rules and it saw the Los Blancos join the party.

Cristiano Ronaldo

Angel Di Maria tore apart the Atletico defence in the 110th minute of the game and shot at goal only for the ball to be deflected by Courtois and Gareth Bale to rise up and score a header. Marcelo Vieira, the super sub ran riot through Atletico’s defence and scored a worldie in the 118th minute. To garnish the meal for Real Madrid, their talisman over the years, Cristiano Ronaldo, smashed a penalty in the final minute of the game only to hammer the last nail in the coffin for Atletico Madrid.

The rest, as they say, is history. The 2014 UEFA Champions League final saw Real Madrid announce their domination in world football. After this, the Los Blancos went on to win three consecutive UEFA Champions League titles from 2016 to 2018 and became the first team in the history of football to do so.

Although Real Madrid emerged as a deadlier team in the coming years, it was the 2014 final that set the tone for them to script history time and again when they stepped on the pitch.
