Shoaib Malik Accuses PCB Of Nepotism

Shoaib Malik has accused PCB of nepotism. He has said that selections in the national teams are made on the basis of players’ connections and not their performances.

Veteran Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik dropped a bombshell, accusing the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) of nepotism. The PCB selection committee had come into the spotlight after skipper Babar Azam’s suggestions over which player to pick for the Zimbabwe series were ignored. Now, Shoaib Malik has claimed that selections are made in the team on the basis of ‘who knows people in the system’.

Shoaib Malik Said Things In Pakistan Cricket Will Improve If More Importance Is Given To Skills Backing Skipper Babar Azam

Cases of corruption, bias and a number of other issues in Pakistan cricket have often surfaced. The PCB has also had a number of changes in the support staff over the last few years, yet have not been able to challenge the top teams. Shoaib Malik feels there’s a need for change in Pakistan cricket but it would only come when players are selected on the basis of merit and not on the basis of their connections.

“We have a system of liking and disliking in our cricket, which is something that is present in the rest of the world as well but seems to be a bit more in our culture. The day things change in our cricket system where more importance is given to skills rather than who a person knows, only then will things improve,” he was quoted as saying by Pakistani journalist Saj Sadiq.

Pakistan skipper Babar Azam also had a fallout with the selectors after a few of his preferred players weren’t picked for the recent Zimbabwe series. Shoaib Malik backed Babar Azam’s thought process, saying the captain’s wish should be granted at all costs.

“In the recent squad there were many players who Babar wanted to pick, but they weren’t selected. Everyone has their opinions but the final decision on selection should be that of the captain because it’s he who will fight it out on the ground he with his team”, he said.

Shoaib Malik also spoke about the selection of players on the basis of their performance in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The former Pakistan captain was in agreement that players should be given national call-ups based on their performance in the T20 league but the judgment should be made after evaluating the player for a couple of seasons and not one or two games.

Shoaib Malik Will Have No Regrets If He Isn’t Asked To Play Again For Pakistan

Shoaib Malik himself has been out of the scheme of things of late, with a national team recall looking more and more unlikely. Having highlighted such grave flaws in Pakistan cricket, he admitted to having put his own carer at risk.

“Whatever is in my fate is in the hands of the Almighty and not in any person’s control. I will have no regrets if I am not asked to play again, but I would have felt more regret if I had not spoken up on behalf of my fellow cricketers,” Shoaib Malik conceded.

He was the captain of the Pakistan national cricket team from 2007 to 2009. He made his One-Day International debut in 1999 against the West Indies and his Test debut in 2001 against Bangladesh. On 3 November 2015, he announced his retirement from Test cricket to focus on the 2019 Cricket World Cup.

Top 5 Most Loved Indian Sports Heroes

India has produced many world class athletes across a range of disciplines, and the nation’s love of sports is well known, as is the support that fans show for home-grown talent.

To bring you up to speed with the sports scene in India, here is a look at 5 of the most beloved stars that the country has ever produced.

Sachin Tendulkar

Cricket is the most popular sport in India, so it is no surprise that many of its top players are venerated far and wide. Sachin Tendulkar is arguably the all time greatest Indian cricketer and has a host of records and trophies under his belt.

Perhaps the most impressive achievement that he has to his name is that of being the only professional cricketer of any nationality to have scored a century at an international test on at least 100 occasions.

From beginning his career as a teenager to winning the 2011 World Cup, Tendulkar has cemented himself as a stalwart of Indian sport and will be a hero to millions for years to come. His achievements have also inspired everything from movies and TV shows to games like those found on Casumo casino.

Mary Kom

Female sports stars are also revered in India, and Mary Kom is amongst the greats thanks to her abilities as a boxer and her inspirational life story.

Having been crowned the top amateur boxer on the planet on no fewer than five occasions, Kom managed to earn a bronze medal during the Olympic Games back in 2012 and has even gone on to stand as a Member of Parliament, using her platform to promote the causes she believes in. Indeed it is not unusual for sports personalities to enter the world of politics in India, and Kom is one of the youngest to have made the leap.

Sania Miraz

Taking the tennis world by storm is no easy feat but Sania Miraz has managed it in spite of the fact that the sport is relatively underrepresented within India.

The list of achievements that Miraz has notched up over the years is significant; at one point she was even ranked as the world’s best player in the women’s doubles, with a partnership with Martina Hingis helping her to reach new heights and also command more cash from sponsorship deals and marketing tie-ins.

Virat Kohli

Following in the footsteps of Sachin Tendulkar is Indian cricket’s latest star player, and his trophy cabinet is definitely heaving. All of this has led to some serious spikes in his income in recent years, to the point that he is amongst the 100 best paid athletes worldwide according to the latest Forbes rankings.

Where Kohli really shines is one day events, which allow him to put his powerful batting capabilities to great use. He has accumulated over 10,000 runs in this context and even took the record for achieving this faster than previous record holder Tendulkar, which is no mean feat.

Milkha Singh

It has taken some time for India to assert itself in a track and field context, yet one of the athletes who allowed events in this category to gain more attention and momentum was Milkha Singh, a 400 metre specialist.

Singh was celebrated following his gold medal win in this race during the 1958 Commonwealth Games, and at the time he was the first sportsperson from India to achieve such an accolade.

Like many of India’s biggest sporting heroes, Singh came from a poor background but used sport to pull himself up the social ladder and encourage others to do so as well.

Anushka Sharma Blamed If Virat Kohli Makes A Zero, It Makes No Sense: Sania Mirza

Indian tennis player Sania Mirza is the wife of Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Malik. She has been repeatedly remarked as the distraction for his husband. In India Economic Summit in Mumbai on Thursday, she openly talks about being woman remarked as a distraction.

Sania Mirza to keep her point gives the example of Anushka Sharma. In her view, anyone can not blame Anushka if Virat Kohli gets out because there is no logical connection between the too. She said it “makes no sense”

“Anushka Sharma is blamed if Virat makes a zero, like what does that have anything to do with anything. Anushka Sharma is blamed if Virat makes a zero.”

“Many times, including our cricket team and in many teams I have seen that wives or girlfriends are not allowed on tour because the boys will be distracted,” Sania Mirza added.

“What does that mean? What is it that the women are doing that is going to distract the men so much?” Mirza asked.

Sania Mirza spoke about a deeper problem

Sania has not played for two years after giving birth to the baby boy Izhaan. She last played in 2017 in the China Open. In Grand Slams, Sania holds three women’s doubles titles and three more in mixed doubles. She is planning to return to the game next year. The Indian tennis star expresses that women should be addressed as a strength rather a distraction.

“See the thing is that comes from a deeper problem which says that a woman is a distraction she cannot be a strength,” said the tennis star.

“If we address the problem that a woman can be a strength or is a strength rather than a distraction or a weakness we might conquer these issues,” Sania said.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli is busy in playing the Test match against South Africa in Visakhapatnam. The second Test match will begin in Pune on 10th October.

Despite Pakistan skipper, Sarfraz Ahmed alongside head coach Mickey Arthur backing senior campaigner Shoaib Malik, who got out on a golden duck against India, saw former Pakistan players including Mohammad Yousuf calling veteran’s career is over for their national team.

The former Pakistan skipper has accumulated 7,534 runs in 278 ODIs. Also, with his off-spin bowling, he went on to snare 158 scalps under his belt.

Interestingly, he shares his 20-year experience with Windies’ Chris Gayle after making his debut in 1999 at Sharjah. The duo has been representing their countries for a little over two decades.

Concurrently, they are the most senior players representing their countries at the twelfth edition of the World Cup.

The 37-year-old Malik, who’s playing his final World Cup, has struggled in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019.

“I think his career is over for Pakistan and I don’t see him playing any further in this World Cup. To select him again would be a big mistake,” Yousuf revealed to Pakistan media.

The Sialkot-born Malik also scored nought against Australia at the County Cricket Ground Taunton on June 12. After missing out a game against the Windies, Malik managed just eight runs while picking a solitary wicket.

In the recent past, Malik has featured in six matches to score just 100 at an unhealthy average of 16.67. He has also managed two wickets after conceding 78 runs in 13 overs.

After a humiliating 89-run loss at the hands of India, former Pakistani players have lashed out with the way players have approached towards the game. Also, Malik has drawn flak for struggling to deliver at the ODI showpiece.

Pakistan’s debacle at the Old Trafford has also witnessed former cricketers asking for a change of guard and set-up.

Earlier, Malik has himself conceded that he is playing his last World Cup which includes ODI career for Pakistan.

Malik might have set his focus on the Twenty20 World Cup which is slated in Australia in 2020, but the former cricketers have urged the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to introduce the young blood.

Malik, who also featured in 35 Tests for Pakistan, has too faced the wrath over social media for venturing out with his wife and tennis star Sania Mirza ahead of India-Pakistan clash.

Besides, Pakistan former Test spinner Iqbal Qasim believes Malik won’t partake in the remainder of the games for Pakistan.

“He himself has announced before the World Cup that he would retire from ODIs after the event. Given his performances in the tournament so far I don’t see him playing again in the remaining four matches,” Qasim concluded.

Pakistan will face South Africa in a do-or-die clash at historic Lord’s on Sunday (June 23).
