IPL 2019:Match 1, CSK vs RCB – Watch – Shimron Hetmyer Makes a Comical Error on IPL Debut

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) had the worst possible start to the 12th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). To make things worse, Shimron Hetmyer made a comical error to get himself run out on his debut against Chennai Super Kings at the Chepauk Stadium on March 23 (Saturday).

Meanwhile, Harbhajan Singh provided the host with a perfect start after MS Dhoni won the toss and elected to bowl first. Being on the slower side, Dhoni was quick to bring in Harbhajan with the new ball. He struck in his very second over to get Virat Kohli out to draw the first blood. However, it was a nothing delivery from the off-spinner as Kohli misjudged the pace to find Ravindra Jadeja at the mid-wicket. Sensing the slowness of the strip, Harbhajan exploited it to full effect to make Moeen Ali and AB de Villiers his next two victims.

While Ali looped one back to Harbhajan Singh, de Villiers found Ravindra Jadeja who dived in front to take a brilliant catch after getting a reprieve from the previous delivery. Striving at 38 for three, Royal Challengers Bangalore hoped to build a partnership with Parthiv Patel and Shimron Hetmyer in the crease. To make thing worse, Hetmyer committed a funny error to get himself out to put Bangalore in dire trouble.

The southpaw taps it to the off-side and charges for a single; however, there was no response from Parthiv Patel, and Hetmyer was stranded in the middle. Raina at cover comes quickly and hurls the ball to MS Dhoni who knocks off the bails. Meanwhile, Shimron Hetmyer was nowhere close to coming back.

Windies Players To Miss IPL Playoffs For Tri-series in Ireland?

Windies will be travelling to Ireland for a tri-series featuring Bangladesh in May this year. The series will start in the first week of May, a time when the final and the most serious phase of the Indian Premier League will be underway. The tri-series will begin on May 5, with Ireland facing West Indies, and conclude with the final on May 17. The series will see each team playing against each other twice before the top two teams qualify for the final.

On the other hand, the Indian Premier League will end in mid-may. The BCCI is yet to announce the schedule for the playoffs but it is more than likely it would conclude in the second week.  The league stage, which will kick off on March 23 with defending champions Chennai Super Kings hosting Royal Challengers Bangalore, ends on May 5 with a double header where Kings XI Punjab will host the Super Kings while Mumbai Indians will host Kolkata Knight Riders.

Unsurprisingly, there are doubts over whether the Windies player will leave India to take part in the tri-series which will be their last international assignment before the all important World Cup. The players from the Caribbeans are a crucial part of the IPL.  This year, the likes of Chris Gayle, Evin Lewis, Andre Russell, Carlos Brathwaite, Shimron Hetmeyer, Nicholas Pooran and Oshane Thomas will be in action in the IPL. All the aforementioned players are expected to make it to Windies’ World Cup squad.

However, according to a report in ESPNcricinfo, the Windies players are unlikely to leave for Ireland if their IPL teams qualify for the playoffs.

The report further claimed that Cricket West Indies is looking at the tri-series as an opportunity to give some of their fringe players exposure before the World Cup.

Meanwhile, from Bangladesh only Shakib Al Hasan will be in action during the IPL for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Shakib recently missed the tour of New Zealand due to a finger injury and the Bangladesh board can recall him for the series to give him some much-needed match-practise before the World Cup.
