Asia Cup 2018: Shoaib Malik Key for Pakistan against India – VVS Laxman

Former India cricketer, VVS Laxman recently admitted that Shoaib Malik will be key for Pakistan against India when the arch-rivals square off in the Asia Cup 2018.

Meanwhile, the two neighbouring countries will clash on September 19 at Dubai International Stadium. This is the first time they will play against each other since the Champions Trophy last year. Pakistan defeated India to lift the trophy for the first time in England.

VVS Laxman feels the experience of Shoaib Malik will come in handy for the green caps. Laxman also noted that Pakistan will depend on Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam.

Malik Pakistan's trump card vs India at Asia Cup, feels Laxman

Yeah, the reason he does well against India is his experience. He is a good player of spin bowling because in the middle invariably India will look to attack with the spinners and they’ve got two quality risk spinners now in, Chahal and Kuldeep while Pakistan is evidently dependent on their opener Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam at number 3,” Laxman said to Star Sports.

VVS Laxman asserted that Shoaib Malik will be key for Sarfraz Ahmed & Co in the six-team tournament. Pakistan have done well in recent times and will look to continue their form.

Shoaib Malik is someone who would look to play the anchor role. He has got ability to rotate the strike, play down the ground, taking easy singles,” he said.

But at the same time when he presses the accelerator, he can play the big shots and he has got an abundance of experience and he is a champion as far as wide ball is concerned,” VVS Laxman signed off.

This edition of Asia Cup 2018 will commence from September 15 with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh playing against each other.

Malik Pakistan’s trump card vs India at Asia Cup, feels Laxman

New Delhi, Sep 12: Former India star V.V.S. Laxman feels that Pakistan batsman Shoaib Malik will perform well against India during the upcoming Asia Cup cricket tournament.

“Yeah, the reason he does well against India is his experience, he is a good player of spin bowling because in the middle invariably India will look to attack with the spinners and they’ve got two quality risk spinners now in, Chahal and Kuldeep while Pakistan is evidently dependent on their opener Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam at number 3,” Laxman was quoted as saying by Star Sports.

Laxman also asserted that Malik will need to play a major role with the bat if Pakistan is to do well in the tournament.

“Shoaib Malik is someone who would look to play the anchor role because he has got the ability to rotate the strike, play down the ground, taking easy singles,” he said.

“But at the same time when he presses the accelerator, he can play the big shots and he has got an abundance of experience and he is a champion as far as the wide ball is concerned,” he added.

Asia Cup 2018: India vs Pakistan is Just Another Game – Shoaib Malik

Pakistan veteran batsman Shoaib Malik joins the long list of players who think India vs Pakistan is just another game. The two arch-rivals are set to lock horns in the upcoming Asia Cup on 19 September.

The right-hander believes if a player over thinks about a match, then he is putting himself under more pressure. In fact, there is no denying the fact that India vs Pakistan match already brings a lot of pressure with itself.

There is already enough pressure in India vs Pakistan matches.

Pakistan will begin their Asia Cup campaign when they will lock horns with Hong Kong on 18 September. Hong Kong was able to cement its place after beating UAE in the final of the Qualifiers.

“The India-Pakistan match in the Asia Cup is just another game for me,” said Malik while speaking to the reporters. “If you think too much about the India-Pakistan game then you create pressure for yourself. I would say that we should consider this just another game and would say the same to my team-mates.”

Meanwhile, it is well known that India and Pakistan bring a great opportunity for the players of both teams. Thus, whosoever performs well in the pressure cooker matches are generally hailed as heroes.

“This is the kind of a game which is watched with great interest in India, Pakistan and abroad. This is a big opportunity for players as the one who performs in such a game becomes a hero,” said the 36-year-old batsman who has played 39 ODIs against India.

There is no doubt that India vs Pakistan brings extra pressure with itself because of the history between the two countries. Furthermore, the growing tensions between the neighbors have always created enough chatters.

Meanwhile, India will not have the services of their captain Virat Kohli which will leave a big void in the team. Thus, Rohit Sharma will hold the captaincy reins in the muti-team tournament.

Fakhar Zaman career best 61 bolsters Pakistan

Harare, July 1: A career best 61 from opening batsman Fakhar Zaman set up Pakistan’s imposing 182 for 4 in their tri-series opener against hosts Zimbabwe at Harare Sports Club on Sunday.
Fakhar Zaman’s efforts were boosted by a late flurry of boundaries from Asif Ali and veteran batsman Shoaib Malik, who put on an unbroken 62 for the fifth wicket at the death.

Fakhar Zaman kept Pakistan steady through the first half of their innings while Zimbabwe, having opted to bowl first, chipped away at the other end with regular strikes.

Mohammad Hafeez, recalled to the Pakistan national team after his bowling action was cleared last month, made just seven runs — including a six –before splicing a big shot down the ground to be excellently caught by new Zimbabwe captain Hamilton Masakadza, backpedalling from mid off.

Medium pacer Chamu Chibhabha had Hussain Talat caught behind for a scratchy 10, and when Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed popped a simple catch into the covers off spinner Tendai Chisoro, Pakistan were 78 for 3.
They were helped by Zaman’s fluent scoring at the other end, and he brought up his second T20I half century from 33 deliveries with a flick through square leg in the 13th over. Fakhar Zaman appeared settled at the crease, but two overs later he missed a heave at Chisoro and had his leg stump pegged back.

By then, however, Pakistan were 121 for 4, and with just over five overs still to be bowled had set a considerable platform.
Ali and Malik combined to plunder 61 from the last five, including five sixes, as Zimbabwe’s bowlers struggled to contain them. Chisoro, with 2 for 28, and Kyle Jarvis, with 1 for 9 from the two overs he bowled, were the only bowlers to escape punishment.

Zimbabwe responded slowly and still required 99 runs off the final six overs as they moved ponderously to 89 for 5 with Tarisai Mukasanda contributing 34.

Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Malik to Feature in World XI Squad against Windies

Pakistan superstar cricketers, Shahid Afridi and Shoaib Malik, are scheduled to feature in the World XI side against the Windies at the hallowed turfs of Lord’s.

The charity match is dedicated to raising funds for the relief of Caribbean islands damaged by hurricanes last year.

Apart from Afridi, Sri Lanka’s Thisara Perera is the other Asian to feature in the World XI squad.

Perera, interestingly, was also part of the World XI squad which toured Pakistan last year for the Independence Cup.

The captain of the World XI side would be England’s limited-overs skipper Eoin Morgan, who will feature against the likes of Chris Gayle and Andre Russell on May 31.

Hurricanes Irma and Maria which descended on the Carribean Islands severely damaged the Carribean communities back in 2017; the match aims to raise funds for the reinstation of cricket in the five Major grounds of the matches.

Further, Sir Viv Richards Stadium at Antigua is one of the damaged venues due to the Hurricanes, which was converted into a temporary camp for Barbuda refugees.

However, former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi expressed his pleasure and privilege after being asked to take part in the event.

I am humbled to have been selected for such a noble cause. Cricket is one big family. No matter how hard and tough we play against each other, there is tremendous comradery within the group,” Shahid Afridi told Cricket Network.

Simultaneously, Afridi is also part of his own charity foundation by the name of Shahid Afridi foundation.

As such, it is our moral and professional obligation to stand up. And also support whenever and wherever we can. To assist our members, colleagues and cricket fans,” Afridi continued.

Additionally, playing at the iconic Lord’s Stadium should bring back nostalgic memories of the finals of World T20 where he single-handedly took Pakistan to victory in the finals.

Shoaib Malik is Still A Spring Chicken, Says Sania Mirza

Shoaib Malik might be in the twilight of his long international career, but his wife Sania Mirza definitely does not think so.

The former Pakistan skipper made his debut way back in 1999 during the ODI against West Indies.

Over the years, he remained an integral part of the team across formats. He started his career as an off-spinner but soon improved his batting and became a batting allrounder.

During his long career, Malik played the role of a top-order batsman, middle-order batsman, bowler, captain and more.

In 2015, he retired from Test cricket and has been playing limited-overs cricket since then.

At 36, he is now on the verge of bidding goodbye to the game but it is safe to say that he is still going strong.

The fact that he is one of the most important batsmen in Pakistan’s T20 side, a format where youngsters are preferred.

And it became very much clear when the 17-year old Shaheen Afridi made his debut in the third Twenty20 International against Windies. Afridi was born in 2000, a year after Malik made his international debut.

And as expected, the interesting co-incident caused quite a stir on Twitter. Among many, one Sri Lankan was quick to point it out.

But Sania was not ready to accept it and came up with a hilarious reaction. Calling her husband Shoaib Malik a spring chicken, she tweeted: “?? common.. my husband is still a spring chicken ? #longevity @realshoaibmalik #mashaAllah.”

Pakistan show no mercy to weak strength Windies

With the start of the first T20I between Pakistan and Windies, many dreams started to turn into reality for the Pakistan fans as international cricket has finally comeback in their home.

Pakistan show no mercy to weak strength Windies 7Too add more happiness to it, Pakistan gave no chance to Windies right from the word go and sealed a huge win over the Caribbeans by 143 runs in the first T20I.

Jason Mohammed, who was leading Windies for the first time elected to bowl first after winning the toss and it went all too wrong for them as both the openers gave Pakistan a blistering start.

Fakhar Zaman played a quick 39-run knock before running himself out while Babar Azam departed after playing a steady knock. Debutant Hussain Talat proved his worth with the bat with a slow but productive knock of 41 runs from 37 balls.

But the skipper of Pakistan Sarfraz Ahmed (38) and Shoib Malik (37) completely took the game away from Windies with their sparkling knocks and it guided Pakistan to a mammoth score of 203 runs.

Pakistan show no mercy to weak strength Windies 8On the other hand, none of the bowlers except Keemo Paul couldn’t deliver with the ball. Rovman Powell was the most expensive bowler who conceded 34 runs in just 3 overs.

In reply to Pakistan’s 203, the openers failed to give Windies a strong start and after their departure they kept loosing wickets and completely lost their way.

Rather than chasing down the target, they were looking to save themselves from humiliation, but in the end that didn’t happen too as they were bowled out for just 60 runs and could only manage to play 13.4 overs.

Pakistan has the best bowling attack in the world right now and they proved it once again with an incredible performance. Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Nawaz and Shoaib Malik picked up 2 wickets each while Hasan Ali picked up 1 wicket in the only over he bowled.

Hussain Talat finished things off by picking up the last wicket and with that Windies received a humiliating gift in the first T20I for coming to play in Pakistan.

Brief score:

PAK 203/5 (20 ov) | Sarfraz 38 (22), Malik 37* (14) | Keemo 1/26
WI 60 (13.4 ov) | Samuels 18 (19) | Amir 2/3, Nawaz 2/19

Result: Pakistan won by 143 runs

Pakistan Won’t Take Windies Lightly Says Shoaib Malik

Pakistan all-rounder Shoaib Malik refused to take the Windies lightly ahead of the upcoming three-match T20I series at home. Despite having the edge over Windies, Malik said didn’t want to take them lightly. This will be the first full series against a top T20I nation after several years. Windies will be sending a relatively inexperienced side with Jason Mohammed as their captain. But they can spring a surprise or two.

“I have been playing the Caribbean Premier League for the last 5 to 6 years, so I know their team is really solid. We focus more on the big names but ignore the basic fact that it’s the team combination that wins you games. And they have sent a really well-balanced squad,” Malik was quoted as saying by the Dawn.

Malik also showered praises on his young teammates Fakhar Zaman, Hasan Ali, Shadab Khan, Muhammad Nawaz and Faheem Ashraf. He said that these players remind him of former Pakistan superstars and their talent and efforts.

“I have played with many former players of Pakistan and all these young boys remind me of them in many ways. The selection committee and the team management deserve a lot of credit for sticking with these boys which is why their game is improving with each day,” Malik said. Regular WWindies T20I skipper Carlos Brathwaite who rose to fame with a 4 sixes of 4 balls during the fiinal of the 2016 ICC World Twenty20 will miss the upcoming series due to security concerns.

PSL 2018: Tom Moody Expresses to Travel with Multan Sultans in Pakistan

Australian former cricketer Tom Moody revealed he would be happy to fly to Pakistan in the third edition of the widely-recognised Pakistan Super League (PSL).

“Yes, I’ll be joining the team for the games in Pakistan,” Moody was quoted as saying by Dawn.

The 52-year-old Adelaide-born Moody has been appointed the chief coach of the newly PSL outfit Multan Sultans earlier this year.

Moody stated he would be in Pakistan if his side Multan would reach the finals of the Twenty20 competition.

“Hopefully we will qualify for the finals,” Moody maintained.

The former top-order batsman Moody, who played 76 One-day Internationals and eight Tests for Australia, has further shown a great interest to travel to Karachi and Lahore.

“And get the opportunity to play at both venues — Karachi and Lahore,” Moody added.

The former top-order batsman Moody, who played 76 ODIs and eight Tests for Australia, stated the international cricket would be returning to Pakistan, and the fans would witness the cricketers following the trust-building measures.

“I think the trust level of the players to travel to Pakistan is going to improve over time,” Moody said.

Mood, who has been part of Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL), will enjoy the stint in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Following the improved situation in the country, Pakistan has hosted World XI team for the three Twenty20 internationals at iconic Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore followed by a solitary T20I against Sri Lanka in October early this year.

On the other side, Moody, who has a lot of experience on his back, reiterated Multan has a list of quality players and is hopeful to see his wards giving their best in the shorter version of the professional T20 league.

“I think we have a competitive side that has got a good balance between experienced international players and some exciting young talent, so I think we will be competitive throughout the tournament,” Moody asserted.

Moody is bound to work alongside legendary bowler Wasim Akram, as the former revealed he had enjoyed a cordial relationship with the left-arm bowler.

“I am obviously very excited about reuniting with Wasim Akram. We have been friends for a really long time and to have his experience with the group is going to be invaluable,” Moody stated.

After witnessing the draft of the players, Mood explained all-six teams had availed some prominent faces in the line-up which includes the local players who have been delivering in the domestic fold.

“The draft had a lot of high-quality players, not only local but also international, so all the teams had access to some star quality players,” Moody concluded.

VIDEO OF THE DAY:

With the third edition of PSL kicking off in late February 2018, Multan will be led by Shoaib Malik, who earlier represented Karachi Kings in first two tournaments.
