Sri Lanka Cricket Revealed 18 Cricketers Have Signed The Contracts

Sri Lanka Cricket has recently announced that 18 cricketers have signed the National Player Contracts, which came into effect from August 1 this year.

The likes of Dhananjaya De Silva, Kusal Perera, Dimuth Karunaratne, Suranga Lakmal, Dasun Shanaka, Wanindu Hasaranga, and Dushmantha Chameera are among the players who have signed the contracts. Veteran Sri Lankan all-rounder Angelo Mathews was not considered since he is currently unavailable for selection.

Sri Lanka Cricket Revealed 18 Cricketers Have Signed The National Players Contracts

Sri Lankan cricket found itself at the centre of a major controversy earlier this year after a number of players refused to sign new contracts, which offered performance-based incentives. The protesting cricketers had alleged that the SLC did not brief them properly over the new pay system and was trying to force them to sign the contracts. During the impasse, Sri Lankan players were offered tour contracts.

Through a media release on Friday, SLC revealed that the new contracts will be for a period of five months and will end on December 31, 2021.

The release read: “The players signed the contracts without any deviation from the contracts offered previously, which was formulated by Sri Lanka Cricket along with the Technical Advisory Committee.”

The board informed that the Sri Lanka cricketers were picked under four categories and were nominated by the selection panel based on a set of criteria – Performance, Fitness, Leadership/Seniority, Professionalism/Code of Conduct, and Future/Adaptability.

The SLC also clarified that there was complete transparency in the process. It stated that the criteria as well as the allocation of points to players were shared with the cricketers before they signed the contracts.

Isuru Udana, Angelo Matthews And Danushka Gunathilaka, Niroshan Dickwella, And Kusal Mendis Didn’t Sign The Contracts

Apart from Angelo Mathews, Danushka Gunathilaka, Niroshan Dickwella, and Kusal Mendis are also without a contract. The three Sri Lankan cricketers are currently serving bans for breaching bio-bubble protocols during the tour of England. Isuru Udana too isn’t part of the contracted players as he recently announced his retirement from international cricket.

Sri Lanka cricket is going through a tough rebuilding phase at the moment. They lost both the ODI and the T20I series in England. There was some respite for the Lankans as they defeated a weak Indian team 2-1 at home in a recent T20I series with several Indian cricketers ruled out for being affected by covid-19 and deemed closed contacts. Sri Lanka will next host South Africa for three ODIs and three T20Is in September ahead of the T20I World Cup in the UAE and Oman.

Players given national contracts: Dhananjaya De Silva, Kusal Perera, Dimuth Karunaratne, Suranga Lakmal, Dasun Shanaka, Wanindu Hasaranga, Lasith Embuldeniya, Pathum Nissanka, Lahiru Thirimanne, Dushmantha Chameera, Dinesh Chandimal, Lakshan Sandakan, Vishwa Fernando, Oshada Fernando, Ramesh Mendis, Lahiru Kumara, Ashen Bandara and Akila Dananjaya.

Sri Lanka Cricket Secretary Mohan de Silva Lauds Rahul Dravid For Completing Series Amid Covid Outbreak

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has acknowledged the positive role of Rahul Dravid in the recent white-ball home series against India. Sri Lanka Cricket said that tour could’ve been discontinued, but for Rahul Dravid, who, as per the Sri Lanka Cricket Board, was responsible for ensuring the completion of the six-match series which resulted in a windfall of sorts for the Lanka board.

Sri Lanka Cricket Secretary Mohan de Silva Said If Rahul Dravid Wanted, He Could’ve Taken Team Back After Krunal Pandya Tested Covid-19 Positive

Sri Lanka Cricket had incurred huge losses during the pandemic and, several of their planned series were cancelled or postponed. Also, the board was at the loggerheads with the players owing to a contract dispute.

“If he wanted, he could have easily taken the team back to India,” Mohan de Silva, the secretary of Sri Lanka Cricket, told Cricbuzz explaining the role of various factors that made sure the tour went ahead despite the covid-19 outbreak.

“The most encouraging aspect of the whole Pandya episode was the role of the support staff of the Indian team, led by Rahul. If he wanted, he could have easily taken the team back to India. He was very accommodating and understood the situation. He appreciated the efforts we were taking and realised that we were doing our best to protect the boys from virus dangers with all bio-secure guidelines,” the SLC official explained.

After the fourth game of the six-match series(3 ODIs and 1 T20I), Krunal Pandya was found to be Covid positive leading to the isolation of eight other players who were deemed close contacts. That left the Indian squad with exactly 11 available players to field in the remaining fixtures.

“We have 11 players available and we will play them. There is nothing to feel sorry about. All the 11 are good enough to make the XI and that’s why they were picked in the squad. I feel it is exciting to see them perform. Yes, the balance of the side will be a little fragile because we can only pick from the players available,” Dravid had said just before the start of the 2nd T20I on July 28.

India went on to lose the T20I series by a margin of 2-1 but Rahul Dravid saw the importance of completing the task on hand than offering excuses. With all the planned six matches going ahead, the SLC reaped dividends of over 280 crore Sri Lankan rupees.

“It was a very, very valuable tour for us. We were looking forward to it for a long time. We were very grateful to BCCI top brass – Jay Shah and Sourav Ganguly – for acceding to our request to play three additional T20Is. Originally the tour was for only three ODIs. It enhanced the commercial value of the whole tour. We ended up earning almost $ 14.5 million. It is a huge boost to our finances,” the Sri Lanka Cricket secretary disclosed.

There were some doubts cast about the tour to be continued or not after Krunal Pandya tested COVID positive before the second T20I. At that point in time, India had completed the three-match ODI series and one of the three T20Is.

Mohan de Silva: BCCI, Indian High Commission, And Team Management Were Concerned And Sought Regular Updates After Krunal Pandya’s Episode

Mohan De Silva also stressed the role of the governments of the two countries in ensuring the series did not end abruptly. The Indian and Sri Lankan boards thought of calling off the tour, but BCCI’s late intervention, helped the remaining two T20Is to be conducted as per plan. Had India pulled out of the series midway, then Sri Lanka Cricket would have suffered huge losses.

“There were concerns from many quarters – the BCCI, the Indian High Commission and the team management. We were in regular touch with all of them. In the Indian High Commission in Colombo, they were very concerned; sought regular updates.”

“The officers were in constant touch with us, particularly after the Krunal episode. They wanted the details of arrangements made. The relations were cooperative and cordial and they went a long way in the continuation of the tour,” the official pointed out.

Krunal Pandya. (Photo: Twitter)

“Usually without their (governments) approval, especially during the pandemic times, the tour would not have been possible. The governments assess the situations before permitting a team to fly abroad and the same can be said of conducting one as well. The role of the governments cannot be overemphasized. By the way, we have a very young and enthusiastic Sports Minister (Namal Rajapaksa),” he signed off.

Mohan de Silva said Sri Lanka Cricket did try to trace how Krunal Pandya got infected.

“We are not sure still but it could have been because the hotel staff who served Grant Flower (who had returned positive test before the series) may have come in contact with Pandya too,” he felt.

After Krunal Pandya, two other Indian players – Yuzvendra Chahal and Krishnappa Gowtham – too had tested positive and had to be separated from the Indian contingent.

The six-match series got postpone initially by three days because of the Covid cases in the Sri Lanka camp and the schedule was again disrupted following the Krunal Pandya incident. Eventually, all six matches were played with India and Sri Lanka winning the ODI and T20I series respectively.

South Africa Will Be Without 3 Key Players In ODIs In Sri Lanka, But The Trio May Return In T20Is

South Africa will be without a number of key players for their three one-day internationals in Sri Lanka next month but expect their big guns to return for the Twenty20 series that follows as they build towards the upcoming T20I World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.

South Africa plays three ODIs in Colombo from Sept. 2-7 but will be without leading batsman Quinton de Kock (rested), powerful middle-order hitter David Miller (hamstring injury), and seamer Lungi Ngidi (personal reasons).

South Africa Plays 3 ODIs And As Many T20Is Against Sri Lanka

All-rounder Dwaine Pretorius will return to the squads for both series after an injury lay-off that saw him miss successful tours to West Indies and Ireland in recent months. The missing trio has been included in the expanded 19-man squad for the T20 matches, which will also be staged in Colombo from Sept. 10-14, a month before the World Cup starts.

The takeaways from the squad announcement of Proteas are, Dwaine Pretorius has returned to both the squads. Junior Dala has been included in the ODI squad and ace batter and wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock has been rested from the ODIs. Pacer Lungi Ngidi will miss out on the ODIs due to personal reasons while David Miller’s injury is being monitored regularly.

South Africa won their T20 series against world champions West Indies and Ireland, and will once again be captained by Temba Bavuma in both formats.

Sri Lanka Will Be Confident After Their Show Against India In The T20Is

South Africa will fight against Sri Lanka who will be instilled with great confidence after recently defeating India in the T20Is. Sri Lanka recently played three ODIs and as many T20Is against India wherein the ODI series was won by India but hosts took away the T20Is.

After COVID-19 havoc broke in India’s camp, India played with their depleted side and completed the series. Under the guidance of Rahul Dravid, many youngsters got the chance to showcase their skills. Talking about South Africa, they played last against West Indies and won the two-match Test series as 2-0 and the five-match T20I series as 3-2.

Wanindu Hasaranga, the No.2 ranked T20I bowler in the world, bamboozled the Indian batsmen in the recently-concluded limited-overs series, picking up 10 wickets from five matches, including a match-winning 4/9 in the deciding T20I, which Sri Lanka won to clinch the series.

ODI squad: Temba Bavuma (captain), Junior Dala, Beuran Hendricks, Reeza Hendricks, Heinrich Klaasen, George Linde, Janneman Malan, Keshav Maharaj, Aiden Markram, Wiaan Mulder, Anrich Nortje, Andile Phehlukwayo, Dwaine Pretorius, Kagiso Rabada, Tabraiz Shamsi, Rassie van der Dussen, Kyle Verreynne, Lizaad Williams.

T20 squad: Temba Bavuma (captain), Quinton de Kock, Bjorn Fortuin, Beuran Hendricks, Reeza Hendricks, Heinrich Klaasen, George Linde, Keshav Maharaj, Sisanda Magala, Aiden Markram, David Miller, Wiaan Mulder, Lungi Ngidi, Anrich Nortje, Dwaine Pretorius, Kagiso Rabada, Tabraiz Shamsi, Rassie van der Dussen, Lzaad Williams.

SL vs IND Dream11 Prediction, Fantasy Cricket Tips, Playing XI, Pitch Report and Injury Update- India Tour of Sri Lanka 2021

Sri Lanka vs India Dream11 Prediction, Fantasy Cricket Tips, Playing XI, Pitch Report, and Injury Update of 3rd T20I match.

SL vs IND 3rd T20I Match Preview:

On the 29th of July, Sri Lanka will face India in the 3rd T20I Match at R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.

India, who anyway brought a replacement team to Sri Lanka, were further severely hamstrung by nine of their players having to go into isolation. They had Bhuvneshwar Kumar – a bowler who bats a bit – as high as No. 6 because they had only five recognized batters available to them. And yet, they almost defended 132, their spinners – Rahul Chahar, Kuldeep Yadav, and Varun Chakravarthy – stymying Sri Lanka’s chase through the middle overs.

Sri Lanka eventually stumbled over the line to record their first T20 victory in six matches, with Dhananjaya de Silva holding the innings together with 40 not out off 34 balls. He hit the winning run with just two balls to spare, and with Sri Lanka down to their last serious batting pair.
Sri Lanka have fought back brilliantly in the T20I series against India. They won the second match by 4 wickets and leveled the series 1-1. The hosts chased down the target of 133 runs with two balls to spare. Earlier, India posted 132/5 after they were asked to bat first. Akila Dananjaya, Wanindu Hasaranga and Dhananjaya de Silva played a key role in helping their team win. The last and deciding T20I of the series will be played on 29th July.

As for India, they are bonafide contenders for the title along with West Indies and England. This series will be the last chance for them to fine-tune their plans before the tournament.

SL vs IND 3rd T20I Match Pitch Report:

It’s a slow and sluggish track, where the ball is gripping and the spinners are getting enough turn. The boundaries are quite big and batters need to run well between the wickets. A target of close to 150 is difficult to chase on this venue. Colombo has had heavy rain on Monday, and there is a chance of bad weather interrupting the match, but there should be enough play to constitute a match.

Average 1st innings score:

The average first innings score on this wicket is 155.

Wanindu Hasaranga is a right-handed batsman and right-arm leg-break bowler from Sri Lanka. He has scored 163 runs and took 26 wickets in his 19 matches T20I career so far. He picked up the important wicket of Devdutt Padikkal and made a handy contribution of 15 runs from 11 balls.

Dhananjaya de Silva is a right-handed batsman and right-arm off-break bowler from Sri Lanka. He has scored 334 runs in his 17 matches T20I career so far. Was the player of the match for his incredible batting performances in the 2nd T20I. He scored only one four and a six in his innings of 40* runs, however, he rotated the strike really well.

Dasun Shanaka is a right-handed explosive batsman and right-arm medium pacer from Sri Lanka. He has marked 548 runs and scalped 11 wickets in his 43 matches T20I career so far.

Shikhar Dhawan led from the front in India’s first game against the Lankans. Not only did he shine as the skipper, but also did well as a batter.  He has hammered 1673 runs in his 65 matches T20I career so far. Scored 46 runs in 1st T20I. He scored runs freely in the 2nd T20I. The Indian interim captain managed to score 40 runs from 42 balls, which includes 5 fours.

SL vs IND 2nd T20I Match Preview:

On the 27th of July, Sri Lanka will face India in the 2nd T20I Match at R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.

As has been the case right through the tour, Sri Lanka were decent with the ball, containing India to 164 for 5, but their batting let them down once more. Between the end of the 5th and 16th over, Sri Lanka scored only 69 runs and lost five wickets. Essentially, with the likes of debutant Varun Chakravarthy impressing, and Yuzvendra Chahal delivering another outstanding spell, Sri Lanka lacked the firepower to mount a serious challenge. Team India is 1-0 up in the three-match series.

As for India, they are bonafide contenders for the title along with West Indies and England. This series will be the last chance for them to fine-tune their plans before the tournament.

SL vs IND 1st T20I Match Preview:

On the 25th of July, Sri Lanka will face India in the 1st T20I Match at R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.

After snatching rare ODI Super League points against what was arguably a third-string India side, Sri Lanka will now have to deal with some of the best IPL players in this T20I series. And they might have to do so without the top scorer and top wicket-taker in the LPL – Danushka Gunathilaka (suspended for bio-bubble breach while on tour in England) and Wanindu Hasaranga (recovering from injury). Sri Lanka’s recent form is also stacked against them: they have lost all but one of their last 13 (completed) T20Is.

As for India, they are bonafide contenders for the title along with West Indies and England. This series will be the last chance for them to fine-tune their plans before the tournament.

The first ODI between India and Sri Lanka turned out to be an overly one-sided affair. The Men in Blue came out firing on all cylinders and won the match by seven wickets with as many as 80 balls to spare. The young Prithvi Shaw became the Player of the Match after his flying start in India’s run-chase.  Though their batters put up a fight, the Lankan bowlers looked hapless, especially in the powerplay.

The first ODI was about showing their class and authority. The second ODI showed the character and resilience of the side when India, holding the hands of Deepak Chahar and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, came back from 193 for 7, to chase down the 276-run target with five balls to spare.

The Shikhar Dhawan-led side will be high on confidence when they take on a mentally disintegrated Sri Lankan side in the third ODI in Colombo on Friday.

The hosts would look to bounce back and avoid the whitewash.

Charith Asalanka: The Sri Lankan Team And Coaches Are Still Emotional After Heartbreaking Loss In The 2nd ODI

Charith Asalanka, who had top-scored for Sri Lanka with 65, described what it was like to see the opposition’s eighth-wicket partnership take the game away.
After a stretch of losses, Sri Lanka had an ODI victory in their grasp, but let it slip. For a team low on confidence, it had to have been devastating.

Charith Asalanka: The Sri Lankan Team And Coaches Are Still Emotional After Heartbreaking Loss In The 2nd ODI

In the previous England tour, a fifth straight Twenty20 series defeat was followed by two one-day international losses with only rain in the final match-saving them from a complete tour whitewash. Before that, Sri Lanka lost to hosts Bangladesh 2-1 in ODIs in May 2021.

After the dismissal of Suryakumar Yadav, who also notched his maiden ODI fifty and ended up scoring 53 off 44 balls, Deepak Chahar and Bhuvneshwar Kumar teamed up and stitched an unbeaten 84-run stand for the eighth wicket to finish the chase successfully.
“We’re all emotional – the team and coaches are all emotional,” he said.
“We’re a young team. We haven’t won much recently, and we’re trying to do our best to play together for our country. Everyone tried hard and took it to the final over, but unfortunately, we couldn’t win.”

Pretty much like the series opener, most of the Sri Lankan batsmen got starts but failed to capitalize after the hosts opted to bat. Avishka Fernando (50 off 71) and Charith Asalanka (65 off 68) struck fine half-centuries but the home team wasn’t disciplined enough to post an imposing total. Chamika Karunaratne (44 not out off 33) came up with another timely cameo to take the team past 270.

Charith Asalanka Need To Fix Sloppy Fielding On Display In The 2nd ODI

Sri Lanka had also saved two overs from Wanindu Hasaranga, and three from Dushmantha Chameera – their two best bowlers – for the last 10 overs.
“What we talked about in the 40th over was to push the game deep,” Charith Asalanka said.
“We wanted to increase their required rate. But they were successful because they didn’t lose any wickets.”
And yet Sri Lanka was unable to break the stand between tailenders pacers Deepak Chahar and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who took India to the target.
“They had a plan to play Wanindu out defensively and get runs off everyone else, and it worked. If they’d tried to get runs off Wanindu, then maybe they would have lost.”
“I guess the other bowlers have to talk and figure out how to get a wicket in that situation.”

Sri Lanka was also sloppy with their ground fielding, conceding at least five boundaries that could have been stopped by outfielders. Charith Asalanka noted this as an area to work on.
“We did make some mistakes in the field, and we gave away more than 10 runs in the field. We need to fix that. Nos. 8 and 9 also scored runs, so we have to figure out how to stop that as well.”
This ended up being Sri Lanka’s ninth loss in 10 completed matches in 2021, but at the 40th over Sri Lanka seemed certain to win it. India still needed 67 runs off 60 balls at that stage, with two batters who have not had a lot of time at the crease recently.

Deepak Chahar Reveals Rahul Dravid Told Him To Play All The Balls

Deepak Chahar spoke about his match-winning innings in the 2nd ODI against Sri Lanka after the 2nd ODI’s conclusion and revealed what he was told by head coach Rahul Dravid. Deepak Chahar on Tuesday night garnered all the attention as he played a remarkable inning to take India home in the 2nd ODI in Colombo.

When Deepak Chahar was batting in the middle, former India captain and head of this Sri Lanka series Rahul Dravid was seen having a few anxious moments inside the dressing room. After leading India to an improbable 3-wicket win by hitting his maiden ODI fifty, Deepak Chahar revealed what Rahul Dravid had told him before walking out to bat on Tuesday.

Deepak Chahar was the top scorer for India, returning unbeaten 69 to bag the Player of the Match award. After the game, the 28-year-old spoke about his innings and revealed what he was told by head coach Rahul Dravid.

“No better way to win the match for the country. Rahul sir told me to play all the balls. I’ve played a few innings with India A and I think he has belief in me. He told me he thinks I’m good enough to be a No. 7. He has belief in me. Hopefully, in the coming matches I don’t have to bat,” Chahar said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

“It was a decent score [to chase] on this wicket. Only one thing that was going on in my mind: this is the kind of innings I’ve been dreaming of. When we came under 50 is when I believed we can win. Before that, it was ball by ball. I took some risks after,” he concluded.

Deepak Chahar’s unbeaten 69 is the 2nd highest score by an Indian No.8 in ODIs. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja stands on the top of the list with his knock of 77 runs against New Zealand in the 2019 World Cup in Manchester. The visitors have taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. India will face Sri Lanka in the third and the final match of the series on Thursday at the same venue.

Deepak Chahar’s 69 Scripted Visitors India’s Series Sealing Victory In The 2nd ODI

Tail-ender Deepak Chahar brought India back from the dead with a steely 69* off 82 balls and script the visiting team’s series-sealing victory in the second ODI against Sri Lanka on Tuesday. Chasing 276, India was down and out at 193 for seven before Deepak Chahar and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (19 not out off 28) forged an unbeaten 84-run stand to seal a memorable win for the visitors who extended their record of not losing an ODI on Sri Lanka soil since 2012.

Suryakumar Yadav

Deepak Chahar, whose highest score before this game was a mere 12, showed remarkable resolve and composure under pressure to take his team over the line with five balls to spare. He fittingly hit the winning boundary.

Earlier, Suryakumar Yadav and Krunal Pandya stitched a 44-run stand before Deepak Chahar produced a stunner from nowhere for a remarkable win. Earlier, in Sri Lanka’s innings, leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal led India’s decent effort with the ball.
Yuzvendra Chahal (3/50) was the pick of the bowlers while pacers Deepak Chahar (2/53) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (3/54) too got wickets primarily due to the profligacy of the home team batsmen. Openers Avishka Fernando (50 off 71) and Minod Bhanuka (36 off 42) took Sri Lanka to 59 for loss in the first 10 overs.
India 277 for 7 (Chahar 69*, Suryakumar 53, Hasaranga 3-37) beat Sri Lanka 275 for 9 (Asalanka 65, Fernando 50, Chahal 3-50)

Bhuvneshwar Kumar Reveals The Aim Was To Play Till The Last 50th Over

Bhuvneshwar Kumar stated that the duo’s aim was just to take the match till the last over against Sri Lanka after stitching a match-winning partnership with Deepak Chahar who smashed an unbeaten 69 and shared an unbeaten 84-run stand with Bhuvneshwar Kumar (19*) to take India home after the visitors were reduced to 193/7 in the second ODI.

India was down and almost out in their chase but Deepak Chahar made sure India get past the target in the final over. Sri Lanka had set India a target of 276 after Charith Asalanka playing only his 4th ODI scored 65 off 68 balls.,

Bhuvneshwar Kumar: Aim Was To Play Till The Last Over

India needed 16 runs to win in the last three overs and the duo ensured the visitors do not lose any wickets and then guided the Shikhar Dhawan-led side to win with five balls to spare. With this victory, India has taken an unassailable 2-0 series lead.

“Our aim was to play till the last over. We want to take it as deep as possible so we can score runs. There was not much planning, the only plan we had is to play till the last. The way Deepak batted was amazing,” Bhuvneshwar Kumar Told ANI in a post-match conference organized by BCCI.

Batting first, Sri Lanka was on 194/6 in the 40th over when Charith Asalanka revived the hosts’ innings. Charith Asalanka’s fighting fifty kept Sri Lanka ticking the scoreboard as the hosts reached 244 before he got out.

In the last two overs, Sri Lanka scored 23 runs to reach 275 despite losing two wickets in the final six balls. This win is also the first time India has successfully chased down a target of 250+ without any of the top three scoring 50+ since beating Zimbabwe in Auckland in WC 2015, chasing 288.

Deepak Chahar’s 69 And Suryakumar Yadav’s 53 Snatches Win Against Sri Lanka In The 2nd ODI From The Jaws Of Defeat

Sri Lanka had India by the collar. Chasing 276, the visitors was 116 for 5 at one stage and later 193/7. When No. 9 Bhuvneshwar Kumar joined No. 8 Deepak Chahar at the crease, they still had 83 runs to get off 89 balls.
But they refused to be beaten. Deepak Chahar, with one List A half-century to his name before this innings, fought doggedly and intelligently, producing a stirring 69 not out that wrenched the game from Sri Lanka’s fist.
Suryakumar Yadav
Suryakumar Yadav (BCCI)

Bhuvneshwar Kumar, with three List A half-centuries on his record, supported him staunchly through the high-pressure overs, finding singles, hitting only two boundaries through his 28-ball innings. And together they achieved the target almost comfortably in the end – with five balls to spare, the batting of the spinners unrequired.

Suryakumar Yadav also struck a graceful 53 off 44 to raise India up from the hole they had fallen into.

India 277 for 7 (Chahar 69*, Suryakumar 53, Hasaranga 3-37) beat Sri Lanka 275 for 9 (Asalanka 65, Fernando 50, Chahal 3-50)
