Indian cricketers are currently in really good form but their last pink-ball Test match experience in Australia will not get out of their mind at least ahead of this Test match. Currently, skipper Virat Kohli, opening partners Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Rishabh Pant etc all are in good touch. Most importantly, if some of them are failing, others are trying their best to play their crucial roles to make up those failures. While Rohit Sharma scored a great century in the last Test, Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara are waiting for their international century for more than a year.

In the last Test, Ravichandran Ashwin scored a brilliant century and also took eight wickets, including one fifer. There is no doubt that Ashwin is in superb touch at the latest moment.

Axar Patel made his Test debut in the last game and impressed with the ball in hand as he took seven wickets, including a fifer in the fourth innings. India’s most wicket-taker in pink-ball Test Umesh Yadav (11 wickets in 2 matches) has also returned to the Test squad after recovering from the injury.

England

England have played three day/night pink-ball Test match where they have won only once and suffered two defeats. So, the visitors will also face a very tough challenge in the forthcoming pink-ball Test match, especially when they last time played the pink ball Test in early 2018.

Test captain Joe Root is the crucial name in England’s present Test batting line-up. Before the last Test match, where he scored 6 and 33 runs, Root scored three daddy hundreds in the previous three Tests (all in Asia), including two double centuries. Ben Stokes, who also failed to score big runs in the last three innings, scored 82 runs in the first innings of this India tour. But the visitors will miss Moeen Ali, who scored a firing 43-run knock off 18 balls in the fourth innings of the last Test when the pitch was most difficult for the batsmen.

The right-arm pacer James Anderson is likely to return to the Test playing XI due to his recent good form while Stuart Broad is struggling in this Asia tour. The left-arm spinner Jack Leach and off-spinner Dom Bess have also impressed in this Asia tour.

Opener Shubman Gill, top-order batsman Chateshwar Pujara and wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant are in very good touch with the bat. All-rounder Washington Sundar is also very effective in the lower-middle-order batting.

Ravichandran Ashwin is playing vital roles as an off-spinner and lower-order batsman. Another all-rounder Axar Patel may start his Test career from this upcoming Test match, who missed the last Test due to an injury. Pacers Ishant Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah bowled well in the last Test.

Also, opener Dom Sibley and all-rounder Ben Stokes scored crucial half-centuries in their first innings of this Test series opener. While off-spinner Dom Bess was their best bowler in the first innings of the last Test, experienced pacer James Anderson and left-arm spinner Jack Leach were their top bowlers in the fourth innings of that Test match.

BCCI Planning To Bring Back Crowd During T20I Series Between India And England

Despite the fight against COVID-19 being still on in India, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is planning to bring back the crowd in stadiums during the five-match T20I series between India and England scheduled to begin on March 12. All five T20Is will be hosted by the world’s largest cricket ground- Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad.

According to ANI, a BCCI official has stated that the board is looking for all the options to allow crowd in the stadium but the decision still lies in the government’s hand.

“We are trying to open the stadium for fans to witness what awaits to be a thrilling T20I series between India and England. While we are yet to decide on the numbers, the idea is to get close to 50 percent of the seats filled. But the final decision lies with the government. Safety is a priority even as we adapt to the new normal,” the official said.

BCCI has decided not to issue tickets for the first two Tests against England:

The players, officials will be undergoing strict quarantine and several rounds of COVID-19 tests before entering the bio-bubble. As per the BCCI directive, the first two Tests between February 5-17 being held at MA Chidambaram Stadium will take place be behind closed doors,” he wrote. “TNCA will not be issuing tickets or sub-committee badges.”

Captain Tim Paine won the Player of the Match award in the previous Test match for playing a game-changing and inspiring knock of 73 not out. Meanwhile, the right-arm pacers Pat Cummins (3/68 & 4/21) and Josh Hazlewood (1/47 & 5/8) dominated during India’s second innings in the previous Test match. They were the reason why India were bundled out for their lowest ever Test innings total (36). Earlier in that Test match, the left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc (4/53 & 0/7) played a key role to restrict the visitors for a low first innings total.

Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin’s (4/55) brilliant bowling performance in the last Test was one of the most shining pictures for the Indian team in this tour. Also, the pacers Umesh Yadav (3/40) and Jasprit Bumrah (2/52) impressed with the pink ball during Australia’s first innings in that Test.
