This week’s Dynamite main event came with high stakes as it finally confirmed the main event for AEW Double or Nothing 2023. MJF and Sammy Guevera were already set to feature in the marquee match for the upcoming PPV while two more homegrown AEW stars got the title shot to MJF.

Darby Allin & Jungle Boy Jack Perry defeated AEW World Champion MJF & Sammy Guevara in the main event of Dynamite. Per the stipulation, the winners had to be inserted into the championship match for AEW Double or Nothing 2023. Hence, the matchup was officially announced where Maxwell Jacob Friedman’s AEW World Championship will be on the line against “Jungle Boy” Jack Perry, Darby Allin, and Sammy Guevara in a four-way match.

The setup of the AEW Double or Nothing 2023 main event match goes as far back as the March 15 episode of Dynamite where the champion MJF threw a Re-Bar Mitzvah celebration. During that segment, the champion was interrupted by Guevara, Allin, and Perry. The so-called four pillars of AEW were strategically inserted into the contest so that the historic match could go down at AEW’s annual PPV event.

Twists and turns around AEW Double or Nothing 2023 main event segment

Coming out of this segment, a “Four Pillars Tournament” was set up between Allin, Guevara, and Perry to decide on one single challenger for MJF. Due to MJF’s wish and interference, the tournament saw Guevara coming out on top and becoming the challenger as Guevera agreed to digest the pinfall loss at AEW Double or Nothing 2023 to MJF after receiving a blank cheque from the champion.

However, on last Wednesday night’s Dynamite, Tony Khan sent a message saying that he wasn’t happy with the MJF vs. Guevera match. It was the AEW President who announced the tag team match for this week with the stipulation that if Perry and Allin win then they would be added to the championship match.
