The reigning world champion of the All Elite Wrestling promotion, MJF has received his next challenger on the latest episode of AEW Dynamite. After completing six months as the top champion of the promotion, he will now have to defend his title against one of the veteran talents on the roster Adam Cole who’s previously been a champion in the WWE.

During the June 7 episode of AEW Dynamite, Cole positioned himself as the next challenger for the AEW World Championship, held by MJF. It was announced that Cole will compete against MJF during next week’s episode in a championship eliminator match.

The match was set up after a verbal confrontation between the two. MJF was at the top of his voice, as usual, and didn’t think twice to go personal with Cole. Those jabs included online chatters about Cole and his tenure in Ring of Honor and WWE NXT. A direct reference to former WWE Chairman Vince McMahon was also there regarding Cole leaving the WWE.

Cole fired back and said he’d already gone through such attacks on social media, beforehand. Cole then also said that MJF wasn’t a true champion as he would only love to trade barbs on the mic rather than fighting in the ring. A frustrated MJF then agreed to dance in the ring with Cole and the match between them was henceforth announced for next week’s AEW Dynamite.

The stipulation of the match says that if Cole can defeat MJF next week on AEW Dynamite then he will win a title match opportunity. If that title match has to happen then it would mark MJF’s fourth defense of the AEW World Championship. As noted above, MJF already enjoyed more than six months with the title after winning the belt from Jon Moxley at last year’s Full Gear PPV event in November.

It’s unknown when Cole vs. MJF title match would take place, but the upcoming AEW-NJPW Forbidden Door should be the time and place. But before that, Cole will have to beat the champion in a non-title bout on the June 14 episode of AEW Dynamite. MJF last defended the title at AEW Double or Nothing on May 29 in a four-way title match.
