After becoming the new Women’s Champion in the last week of May, Toni Storm will go through her first title defense on AEW Dynamite, next week. The process of crowning a new challenger went down on this week’s Friday night episode of Rampage and a fresh AEW talent has capitalized on the opportunity to get the title shot.

Winning a four-way match on AEW Rampage, Skye Blue will now be challenging Toni Storm for the AEW Women’s World Championship on the June 14 episode of AEW Dynamite. This match will mark Blue’s first solo title shot on AEW programming while Storm has her first defense since winning the belt.

Toni Storm became Women’s Champion at Double or Nothing

Toni Storm became the AEW Women’s World Champion for the second time in her career by defeating Jamie Hayter at Double or Nothing. Hayter has been dealing with an injury heading into the match and hence had to go into a hiatus to heal off the same. Interestingly, it was Hayter who ended Storm’s first reign back at the Full Gear PPV event in November 2022.

Storm and Blue has previously competed in AEW

The two-time women’s champion Storm had previously defeated Skye Blue on the March 22 episode of AEW Dynamite. Then Storm and Outcasts partner Ruby Soho also defeated Blue and Riho in a tag team action on the April 12 episode. As The Outcasts also featuring Saraya continue to feud with The Originals featuring Baker, Hayter, and Riho, Blue became a part of the angle and had thus faced off with all three members of the Outcasts in singles matches and been victorious on each occasion.

As noted above, this Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite will mark Blue’s first televised opportunity at the Women’s World Championship. Before this, she has previously challenged Athena for the ROH Women’s title and Jade Cargill for the TBS title. While Blue was making regular appearances for AEW since 2021, the company signed the 23-year-old star, earlier this year.
