AEW Dynamite aired this week from Long Island, New York, and fans got to witness quite a stacked show. MJF’s hometown fans got quite the treat from the reigning AEW World Heavyweight Champion. Plus, a top tag team on the AEW roster got to save their spot by winning the tag team championships.
During the latest episode of AEW Dynamite, FTR (Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler) defeated The Gunns in a Career vs. Titles bout to capture the AEW World Tag Team Championship. After the match, FTR celebrated in the ring with Marc Briscoe and AEW President Tony Khan. While nothing was confirmed regarding their status in the AEW, it was an indication that the duo must have signed new contracts with the promotion.
AEW Battle Of The Belts 6: Three Championship Matches Announced
During the closing segment of this match on AEW Dynamite, Austin Gunn took out Harwood with the title belt, and the Gunns were in a favorite position to retain their championships. Harwood kicked out despite the massive blow. FTR took out Colten Gunn with a stereo sunset flip. Harwood then simply rolled up Austin Gunn for the pinfall victory.
With this win, FTR has now started their second reign as AEW World Tag Team Champions. This also hints as their previous tease to leave AEW for WWE was just a hoax. Their previous reign lasted for 63 days after they lost the titles to The Young Bucks at the Full Gear pay-per-view in November 2020.
After FTR lost their IWGP and AAA Tag Team Championships, they took a sabbatical until last month’s Revolution pay-per-view. They returned at the first AEW PPV of 2023 and laid out The Gunns to get themselves included in the tag title picture, right away.
