AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2023 card continues to shape up through the weekly episodes of Dynamite, each week and the trend continues this week. The IWGP World Heavyweight Champion SANADA issued an open challenge to anyone specifically from the AEW roster to come after his title. The request was made since the upcoming show would be a dual-branded PPV event.

Quickly after that segment, it was announced that MJF would be defending his AEW World Championship against longtime NJPW wrestler Hiroshi Tanahashi at Forbidden Door 2023. In a promo session, Tanahashi has the following to say,

“It’s NJPW’s Master of the Century, Hiroshi Tanahashi. MJF, as long as you’re champion, the belt doesn’t shine like it should. Last year at Forbidden Door, I came this close to beating [Jon] Moxley for the AEW title. So this year, at Forbidden Door, MJF, face me one on one.”

Renee Paquette then had an interview with MJF as he was in the trainer’s room, where she told him that AEW CEO Tony Khan had made the title match official for Forbidden Door 2023. The champion wasn’t happy with the way he was forced to compete in a title match. He last went through a successful title defense at Double or Nothing 2023 in late May in a four-way match.

As noted above, the open challenge made by the IWGP Heavyweight Championship was accepted by Jungle Boy and the match was seemingly confirmed for Forbidden Door 2023. SANADA won the IWGP world title from Kazuchika Okada at Sakura Genesis on April 8 in Tokyo. On the flip side, Jungle Boy was part of the four-way AEW world championship at Double or Nothing 2023.

Also during the build-up for the upcoming pay-per-view event, Will Ospreay appeared on this week’s Dynamite to confront his opponent Kenny Omega. A physical altercation broke out after which it was announced that Ospreay will also be in action on next week’s Dynamite.
