AEW has brought back the Owen Hart Tournament from this week onward that will go down on its weekly TV and also the pay-per-view waiting for this weekend. Apart from matches scheduled on Dynamite and Rampage, the men’s side of the bracket will be underway at AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door 2023.
Meanwhile, the Women’s Owen Hart Tournament has kicked off during this week’s episode of Rampage. The first female wrestler to advance in the series is one of the up-and-rising names of the company, Skye Blue. For weeks now, she’s been trying to make an impression on the audience and more opportunities could be waiting for her.
AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2023: Toni Storm Set For Championship Defense
During this week’s episode of AEW Rampage in her hometown of Chicago, Illinois, Skye Blue defeated Anna Jay to move to the second round of the Owen Hart Tournament. After officially signing with AEW in April, she has regularly been on TV. Earlier this month, she won a battle royal to get a shot at the AEW Women’s Championship. Last week, Blue unsuccessfully challenged Toni Storm for the AEW Women’s World Championship.
With the win, Blue has advanced to the Owens Hart Tournament semifinals 2023 edition, where she’ll face the winner of the first-round match between Dr. Britt Baker and Ruby Soho scheduled to take place on next Wednesday’s episode of AEW Dynamite in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. This will also be a rematch of last year’s tournament final.
From the women’s division, two more first-round matches of the Owen Hart Tournament will be taking place this weekend. NJPW Strong Women’s Champion Willow Nightingale will face Nyla Rose on tonight’s episode of Collision while Ring of Honor Women’s World Champion Athena will face Billie Starkz on the Zero Hour pre-show match just before AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view on Sunday.
