The self-proclaimed best tag team in the world is back on the scene at AEW Revolution 2023 and they are coming after the titles. After The Gunns successfully defended their AEW World Tag Team Championships against three separate teams at AEW Revolution, one of the cornerstone teams of the AEW roster, FTR made their emphatic return to make a statement.
FTR made their intentions clear soon after the arrival and that’s to become the new champions. The team comprising Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler attacked The Gunns as they were speaking to Renee Paquette after the victory at AEW Revolution 2023. They made it clear on challenging for the belts they’ve previously held on multiple occasions.
AEW Revolution 2023: Big Heel Turn After Women’s Title Match
Due to the intensity of the altercation, Harwood busted himself open and he was spilling blood while posing with the tag titles to the segment at AEW Revolution 2023. Prior to this, FTR was unsure about their next step in careers. Tony Khan hoped to see them back in AEW but they were not certain whether that was about to happen or not.
FTR’s future is uncertain despite AEW Revolution 2023 return
It’s interesting to note that this appearance by FTR at AEW Revolution 2023 does not confirm the team is re-signing or has already re-signed with the company, as their AEW contracts will expire in April. This return could mark a new beginning for the group or it could eventually also mark their last ride in AEW.
Before showing up at AEW Revolution 2023, the duo has teased returning to WWE now that Triple H is in charge. They also intended wrestling in the indies or in Japan alongside returning to AEW in the past. Hence, things aren’t really clear for one of the greatest tag teams of the modern era.
For the time being, it seems that FTR will move into a new feud against The Gunns who retained their titles at AEW Revolution 2023. The Gunns won their match by delivering their finisher, 3:10 to Yuta, on Danhausen and thereafter pinning him to secure their first successful title defense. They won the belts on the February 2 edition of AEW Dynamite. The Acclaimed (with Billy Gunn), Jeff Jarrett & Jay Lethal (with Sonjay Dutt & Satnam Singh), and AEW All-Atlantic Champion Orange Cassidy & Danhausen were their opponents in this title defense.
