Saraya had a fairytale comeback to wrestling late last year and she’s also getting her first title shot at AEW Revolution 2023. Being the most veteran female wrestler in the AEW locker room as well as one of the most popular wrestlers all over the globe her fanbase is excited to see her perform in this match against Ruby Soho and AEW Women’s Champion Jamie Hayter.
AEW Revolution 2023 actually marks Saraya’s first title match in almost six years and nine months. The last time she challenged for a title was for the WWE Women’s Championship against the then champion Charlotte Flair in the WWE as Paige during the June 20, 2016 episode. She came up short against The Queen and went into a hiatus due to several reasons.
In 2017, Paige did make a comeback in November but a fatal neck injury took her out of action permanently within a couple of months. Then she struggled her way back to competition by signing a contract with AEW after going through neck fusion surgeries in the past. Heading into AEW Revolution 2023, the now Saraya also turned into a heel but that doesn’t change the reality that she’s nowhere near to becoming a champion.
Saraya faced backlash heading into AEW Revolution 2023
Saraya was seen facing severe backlash on social media for what transpired during the AEW Revolution 2023 go-home episode of AEW Dynamite. The former Anti-Diva’s performances have already been scrutinized ever since she returned to wrestling. Then she featured in a brawl sequence on AEW’s weekly show and missed a few spots that weren’t going unnoticed.
The former WWE Divas Champion was part of a brutal brawl involving Ruby Soho and Jamie Hayter after a singles bout between Toni Storm and Riho. In the chaotic sequence, Hayter and Saraya were throwing down punches at each other inside the ring. Saraya got imbalanced as she missed a few elbows and went for a breather.
The spot made Saraya look weaker and she was trending following Dynamite. Moreover, the betting odds released for AEW Revolution 2023 aren’t in her favor as she is the least favorite to emerge victorious. BetOnline released the odds suggesting that the champion Hayter remains a strong favorite to retain her title (-1250) against both Saraya (+500) and Soho (+400).
