The pro-Wrestling universe is all excited to see the joint venture to be produced by AEW and NJPW in the form of Forbidden Door 2023. Already a couple of dream bouts have been announced for the show while AEW President Tony Khan had hyped things up for the show by saying this one is going to be the best event of 2023.
Apart from the top matches featuring the male superstars at Forbidden Door 2023, there have been reports about a top match from the female division if not an injury would have cursed the path, all of a sudden. We’re talking about the biggest recent signing in the history of NJPW that’s Sasha Banks now known as Mercedes Moné.
AEW X NJPW Forbidden Door 2023: CM Punk To Feature In A Dream Match?
After leaving the WWE, many believed that Mercedes could be a future signee in AEW but she ultimately jumped ship to MJPW. However, fans are still nurturing over the possibility of seeing her wrestle at the Forbidden Door 2023 event due to the AEW – NJPW partnership. Tony Khan himself fueled rumors at the Double or Nothing media call last month, hinting at plans for her on the show.
Forbidden Door 2023: Saraya vs. Mercedes Mone discussed
In the follow-up update, Fightful Select reported behind their paywall that AEW had a significant interest in Mercedes Moné since January for an appearance at Forbidden Door 2023. The company wanted to bring in her the crossover event in Canada.
If she had not been injured, the AEW talent believed to have feuded with the former Sasha Banks would be none other than Saraya en route to the pay-per-view. The two do have a history dating back to their time in NXT. Plus, it was Banks whose one kick ended Saraya’s (the former Paige’s in-ring career) in the WWE.
There’s no update from those close to NJPW on whether AEW and Mercedes made any progress in recent times about any upcoming match. The current word is that Mercedes’ injury will force her to miss the Forbidden Door 2023 event, after all.
