AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2023 is waiting for us, this weekend, and one more championship match for the show has now been announced during the latest episode of Dynamite. While many of the wrestlers even crave to get a place on the match of this jointly hosted pay-per-view event, Toni Storm will have the opportunity to compete on this particular show for two back-to-back years.

Just like last year around this time, Storm will be competing in the AEW Women’s World Championship at the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2023 pay-per-view. However, this year, she will be entering the event as the reigning champion. As announced on Dynamite, the Australian star will be defending her title against Willow Nightingale, this Sunday night.

Nightingale herself is the NJPW Strong Women’s Champion, but since her title will not be on the line at Forbidden Door 2023, the match won’t be contested for a title unification. Last month, Nightingale became the inaugural NJPW Strong Champion by defeating Mercedes Moné fka Sasha Banks of WWE in the final of a tournament to crown the first champion with the belt at New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s Resurgence event.

Nightingale was never originally planned to become a champion. But things had to be changed after Moné suffered an injury during the final match. Thus, the AEW wrestler got to pick her maiden championship of her entire career.

This past Saturday night at Collision premiere episode, Storm and Nightingale were placed on opposite sides in a tag team match. Nightingale and Skye Blue teamed up to secure a win over Storm and Ruby Soho in a match. Blue pinned Soho for the victory.

Storm won the AEW Women’s Championship by defeating Jamie Hayter at last month’s Double or Nothing pay-per-view. She then successfully defended the title at Skye Blue at last week’s Dynamite. Thus, the Forbidden Door 2023 will mark her second title defense. At last year’s Forbidden Door, Storm was unable to win the AEW women’s title from Thunder Rosa.
