MJF’s reign of terror continues following the latest Forbidden Door 2023 which was a joint venture of AEW and NJPW wrestling promotions. After defeating the likes of Bryan Danielson, and Jon Moxley, MJF now has an NJPW veteran added to the list of superstars against whom he retained his titles.

As seen last night, MJF successfully defended his AEW World Championship by defeating Hiroshi Tanahashi in the opening match of AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2023 which went down at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The top champion in AEW went low by hitting Tanahashi with his Dynamite Diamond Ring when the referee wasn’t watching.

Heading into this match at Forbidden Door 2023, MJF wasn’t happy about Tony Khan not consulting with him before making the announcement. He even threatened to no-show at the dual-branded PPV event. But he ultimately showed up and went through yet another successful title defense.

MJF captured the AEW World Title at Full Gear in November 2022 by beating Jon Moxley. He’s currently in the middle of a feud with Adam Cole who couldn’t attend yesterday’s PPV due to an undisclosed illness. There’s no update on whether this illness will put the ongoing rivalry in jeopardy.

Moving into the AEW Women’s World Championship Match at Forbidden Door 2023, the reigning champion Toni Storm also retained her title. She defeated NJPW Strong Women’s Champion Willow Nightingale in a singles contest. The AEW Women’s Champion was joined by Outcast members Ruby Soho and Saraya for that match. This marked Saraya’s second appearance in AEW, this week following Saturday’s AEW Collision return.

As the former WWE Superstar and Soho were trying to create distractions, the referee had to eject them from ringside, but that didn’t prevent Storm from hitting her Storm Zero finisher for the pinfall win. Storm got the win despite getting busted open during the match after Nightingale landed a death-valley driver on the apron.

Toni Storm won her second AEW Women’s Title at Double or Nothing back in May by defeating the former champ Jamie Hayter. After a house show title defense, Storm beat Skye Blue, last week on AEW Dynamite. Thus, Forbidden Door 2023 marked her second title defense on TV.
