AJ Lee has an immense influence in the world of professional wrestling, especially among female wrestlers. She was a mainstay name during the Divas Era of the WWE who demanded respect as a performer instead of being a beautiful face. Having three championship reigns by her name, she also was the longest-reigning Divas Champion at one point to solidify her legacy in the WWE.
However, things didn’t go well with her and her husband, CM Punk as both left the company, down the road. After Punk made his debut in AEW last year, many fans wanted AJ Lee to follow his suit and join the league which is mostly built upon former WWE wrestlers. Unfortunately, it is unlikely that the former champion will ever make her in-ring return.
AJ Lee Reveals WWE Door Is Always Open For A Possible Comeback
While speaking to Renee Paquette on The Sessions, AJ Lee talked about her husband’s return to professional wrestling. Despite the success that he’s getting, the former WWE Superstar made it clear that an in-ring return isn’t what she is looking forward to, too.

AJ Lee’s career stopped due to a neck injury
AJ Lee also revealed that a neck injury was the original reason why she opted to hang up her boots from in-ring action. She isn’t exactly sure when she hurt her neck, but she’s pretty sure it happened during a match with Paige, another WWE Superstar whose WWE career also came to a halt due to a neck injury of her own.
“I f*cked up her move,” AJ Lee said. “I like, jumped a little early and I landed on the top of my head, couldn’t feel my legs, and they were like, ‘You gotta sell to hard cam,’ and I was like, [whispering] ‘I can’t feel my legs.’ And then I just roll over and sell to harm cam.”
“And then I got my feeling back and went to the doctor, it turned out three of my discs are so compacted it is shutting off a nerve, so my hands just go numb randomly … I had the option to do surgery to alleviate that pain or do rehab, and I went the rehab route.” (quotes courtesy Wrestling INC)
AJ Lee has never been seen in competition since the Monday Night Raw after WrestleMania 31, where she teamed with Naomi and Paige to defeat the team of Natalya and the Bella Twins. Recently, the ex-WWE Diva has done work with WOW but she doesn’t have any kind of in-ring duties in that project.
