Brock Lesnar is a one-of-a-kind athlete in the history of professional wrestling who dominated the squared circle for multiple years. At one point, he used to be the longest-reigning WWE Universal Champion and the youngest WWE Champion in history. Over the years, both records were shattered but his acceptance by the mass people remained the same.
Apart from being the entertainment part of his ability that we see on TV, Brock Lesnar is also a mastermind when it comes to creative pitches in the WWE. There’ve been many occasions in the company where his involvement with Vince McMahon and his concerned rival produced some gem moments on TV. One such occasion was the 2016 Survivor Series where fantasy warfare became reality.
Legendary Goldberg Confirms He’s Still Signed With The WWE
Goldberg returned to WWE in that year’s fall following a nearly 13-year absence from. His first match opponent after return turned out to be the last opponent of his first stint, Brock Lesnar who defeated, rather squashed in a match that barely lasted for 90 minutes. Brock Lesnar wanted a huge adversary in Goldberg
Appearing on Talk is Jericho hosted by former WWE Superstar, Goldberg revealed whose idea it was for him to go over Brock Lesnar in such a short amount of time. Apparently, it was The Beast Incarnate himself who pitched the idea of losing against the returnee in such a short amount of time so that he could receive a worthy adversary on TV.
“Brock needed an adversary, he needed a worthy adversary,” the WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg stated on Talk is Jericho. “Brock Lesnar is an absolutely mastermind, I mean he really is … It was an honor for me to still be looked upon as somebody who was a worthy competitor, a worthy challenge for him and Brock is the one who came up with the, with the 90-second deal, right?” (quotes courtesy Wrestling INC)
As noted above, Goldberg defeated Brock Lesnar in the main event of Survivor Series 2016 to make the PPV a mega success. This match marked Goldberg’s first match since WrestleMania 20 in 2004. Even on that night, the match outcome was similar but that outing was not well-received by the fans since they knew both the superstars were leaving the company following the biggest show of the year.
